I give up.

I have also been in the same position as you and I think what you might be having is an art block.

There were times where I just felt like giving up and not pressing on because I didn't feel as if I was improving at all.

I think it could be an art block because usually your idea of what you consider to be good art has increase farther than you actual skill has so, you feel that your work is not reaching your expectations.

And keep in mind that art is not as much of a talent as it is a skill. It takes time, practice, study and effort.

Don't give up Cupcake I like your work and Im always looking forward to see your next great creation.

Are you suggesting I made this topic to fish for compliments?

That was not the purpose. The doodle I posted is probably the last thing I'll draw for a few months, kind of like a last little drawing before I take a long break from art. Although, before everyone told me to not to just give up my original plan was to completely stop drawing since it gave me no more joy.

To me that doodle wasn't all that good. To me I know I can do a lot better, but whenever I try to create a drawing I sit with a blocked uninspired mind and whatever I slap on the paper is mediocre imo.

Whatever you think is fine though. If you assume I'm some attention whore who wants to get compliments then go ahead and think that.

What I am suggesting is that judging from the quality of work you have, and the "themes" of basically everyone who has replied, that you should know by now, self criticism in the brony community is only ever going to be responded with by kindness (minus mine of course because yes, I do feel that you are self criticising for positive comments).

Well then forgive me, you see when you're topic is "I give up", by immediate thought is not, "oh he is just doing a last drawing for a little bit".

I assume that's trying to get people to rally behind false pretentious, that this is that last time you will ever draw without their inspiration.

Why is it that those with talent never see the quality of there work. I think I will, good morning and in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night.

If you choose to see me as one, it's your decision. If I came off that way I apologize.

Inspiration is something I lack, their words didn't cause me to automatically pick up my pencil and draw. Their words helped me to realize that I just need to relax and try something new for a while.

I'm afraid I'm tired of writing a reply and I'm kinda busy playing FFX-2 at the moment so yeah. Cut this short.

I can't make you see me as something else. I'm fine with you seeing me as some whiny artist who just wants everyone to bow before them. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

There is no need to apologies for something you aren't generally sorry for, even for politeness.

I will choose to view this world as I see fit, however I am questionable of the idea that you were like "time to tell the world I'm giving up, never gonna do this again....oh look some unexpected complements which I had no idea I would get, I think I'll start drawing again". I never said I thought you were trying to get people to bow before you, complement fishing is the exact opposite really, it's suggesting your bad so people tell you you're good.

There is only one true statement that can answer all that.

I do what I waaaaant.

But in all seriousness, I really wanted to give up drawing. The frustration and stress coming from it was driving me insane. It still bugs me and probably will for a long while. Did I expect people to tell me not to give up? Sure, I'm not an idiot. Did it totally sway me to just take a break on that thought alone? No, but to see all these people reassure me and be able to relate to my situation allowed myself to realize just how hasty i was to actually consider obliterating art from my life.

If I turned around the next day and started drawing I would agree with you, but that's not what I'm going to do.

If you care enough you'll keep trying until you find a way to be truly content with your work. Find out what style of art you want to specialize in, be it cartoony or realism, and do everthing in your power to acheive that goal. But do NOT pay to go to some art school or college, you don't need it. There are free guides online that can help you, trust me. Also, find out what exactly it is you don't like about your art, so you'll know what exactly needs improvement.

Just don't give up, never give up.

I think I'm just gonna give up drawing. Nothing I do anymore is good enough for me. I'm disappointed in all aspects of my life right now. I'm just stuck in this rut, it never ends. I might finish that power pony poster board, a couple drawings I promised my best friends, but aside from that I'm just done. Maybe one day I'll be capable of actually making myself proud of the work I produce but that time isn't now. Guess I'll need to find a new hobby now.

You probably just need to find some inspiration. That's what happened to me when I reached a rut in my writing. Finding new and different elements may help O.O
