In fact, speaking from memory, their faces seem to be similar to those of the Saddle-Arabian ponies from the end of Magic Duel. Most likely they were just nobodies growing up in Equestria before that. If they were foreigners, they must have spent a great deal of time learning about the properties of Equestria. That is of course until the (European?) pony race came to take over their land and claim it as their own. TrunksXV 33 March 1, 2014 Share March 1, 2014 I believe they did. Even though Alicorns like Luna and Celestia have expanded lifespans, that doesn't make them immortal by any stretch of the term. While we haven't gotten a proper origin story, I can only assume that since Luna and Celestia still have the title "Princess" they aren't fully fledged Queens like Chrysalis. If you saw Celestia vs. Chrysalis, the Queen easily overpowered Celestia, As it turns out Celestia, still needed the elements of harmony to defeat Nightmare Moon and Discord, proving that even though she has the ability to raise the sun, that's about all she can do. As for their overall origin story. I would think it would be the pony version of the book of Genesis. Only that the Garden of Eden would've been populated by a male and female Alicorn. When they fell by disobeying their creator, they lost the dominion given to them by their creator. The laws of their universe has to be governed by the same kind of problems in the human world. The Alicorns may have more power than all three pony races, but I believe it is from the Alicorns that all the pony races are derived from, kind of like the Tower of Babel. Then the ponies put them in charge after 1000 years of chaos and then finally peace, somebody good had to rule anyways, so why not them? I mean yeah, so on the map it really doesn't look like they could have come from anywhere else and if they didn't come from equestria why did they stick up for equestria? Why did they defeat discord? He was only ruling equestria, so if they weren't from there his rule shouldn't affect where they lived right? Why did they defeat him? How did they get the throne? If we look to the right, or east part of the map we see an arrow pointing to what would presumably be europe, which is where the griffons are. The three tribes might have crossed the land bridge that formed between asia and north america during the last ice age, or in their case, the windego's blizzard. Equestria is a european based society, but we knew they came by land and air, not sea. So that makes me question, did ponies used to live in europe? and if that's the case, did they really march across what would be russia. It's possible that for them the entire northern icecap froze far enough south to make the still extremely long trip much shorter. But this this makes us question where the griffons lived. did they live among ponies or in nations side by side? maybe they left just as the tribes had, or were never there to begin with, and moved where the ponies were. Personally I think they did that, or were in russia so they were better adapted to the cold and spread west once the ponies were out of the way. What does this have to do with Celestia and Luna. It means they're not european. When the three tribes arrive to what becomes equestria, Celestia and Luna aren't around yet. Which is really cool, when you realize that they have been ruling a nation, although mostly Celestia did, for sometime over a thousand years, and Equestria is still older than them. So not only do I think that Celestia and Luna originate from equestria. I'm sure of it. Here's is an explanation on why they look the a bit more horsier than pony. If indeed ponies came across the land bridge then they could have easily picked up other species or at least some saddle arabians along the way. also there's that whole, the more powerful your magic the bigger you are.
