At the very least, you can think of it like this:

There are 2 normal reasons you laugh:

1) You're happy/see something funny

2) You're completely insane

It's usually no. 1. Now, thinking about that, it would be a nice way to go, as you're looking at something that makes you happy or funny. But laughing "to death" would most likely come from asphyxiation. When people say they laughed too hard, they usually mean that when they were laughing, their muscles were contracted so that they were unable to breathe in properly.

Now, because of how the body works, I don't think that one could simply die of laughter on their own. I think it would take an outside force, such as a person, to give you a paralytic or some other kind of drug that would make your muscles unresponsive and complete the asphyxiation process.

Essentially, you can die from laughing, but I don't think it's possible on your own. And while going out laughing would be nice, if it takes another person, then you'd probably not be in an ideal situation of life, and therefore would not go out nicely.

Perhaps I took this a little farther than I should have...

Asphyxiation wouldn't be an issue as you'd pass out first and resume normal breathing. You could give yourself a heart attack, I suppose. Don't think I'd want to die that way though.
