Why do people say that Celestia is weak/cowardly?

What do you feel about the whole Sombra×Celestia shipping thing going on in the comics?

I don't read the comics, nor do I regard them as canon. I do think it's possible that there was an underlying reason for her not fighting Sombra a second time, though.

She was in love with him!
WAIT WHAT? WHAT... WHAT...

OT:Let's see... she couldn't  handle her sister Nightmare Moon in her return, she couldn't handle/didn't aid against Discord when he returned, she couldn't handle Chrysalis when she assaulted Equestria... well as my villain on my fic would say "She is unable to protect her subjects! She lacks efficiency and is a weak ruler! She should be dethroned AGES ago!"

I wouldn't say that considering he managed to banish the crystal empire before he was defeated. I would say he's powerful enough to not get stomped by the sisters, but below their own power.

Also, I share your worry for the 'Revelations arc' as it can destroy Celestia's character in ways that would cause me to lose alot of respect for their ability to do long term arcs they're doing right now.

I don't get why so many are against the Reflections comic arc. I think its a good idea to pair Sombra with Celestia!

There is always that viewpoint used in comic books that the hero over-reliant on their powers are frail underneath when it comes to problems that their powers can't resolve. Worse case scenario is if they lose their powers permanently. Celestia would likely breakdown if she lost her magic.

I think people say that because, sometimes it does kinda seem like celestia doesnt really do much when problems arise, but those arent my words, just other people

It's more of a concern that they could mess up Celestia's character by forcing this romance into it. I don't mind romances but only if it makes sense for the character and doesn't compromise their character having it.

What I'm concerned about is that they're going to try to point that many of the problems that were caused thousand years ago in Equestria such as Luna turning into Nightmare Moon was all because she would rather be with an alternate verse Sombra than aid her sister when she needed it.

The first issue of the arc never addressed if she had solved that issue before she did her dimension hopping trips and if that were the case, it can ruin her character from being a benevolent and caring ruler to a love struck idiot who would rather give in to her passion for love rather than become an effective ruler and was only forced to be an effective ruler because she screwed up so badly and Starswirl the Bearded closed the only portal to alternate verse Sombra's world to prevent her from going there.

The point is, would I prefer a Celestia who struggles to maintain her integrity and characteristics as a good ruler to her people through the many trials and dangers she goes through in life where many would falter she instead tries to fix it however she can, tries to be a good sister where instead of killing or attacking her but rather tries to find a way to save her sister from her corruption, and even while doing it she cares for her people enough that she even has planned successors to take her place?

Or possibly a Celestia who would rather abandon her duties as an effective ruler and caring sister for...an alternate verse version of an evil ruler who enslaved ponies for his own amusement and banished the Crystal Empire and separating it from Equestria to spite the sisters in his defeat?

And what makes you think that Luna would have handled it better without her turning into her demon form again? She was ALSO captured by the plants of the Everfree Forest by the way.

It's not all about muscle power either. I wouldn't even be surprised if Equestria were already at war under Luna's rule.

When did i ever speak about Luna? Why do you make that assumption? I said what my villain would have said... not how Luna would rule. Certainly the ponies could rule themselves... they have done so before...

Ah sorry. From my experience it just sounded like another rant of a Luna fan. Fans of Chrysalis usually prefer the dark pony princess, too. Much.

-.-"

Not that it would mean anything but at least Chrysalis is mostly effective on her job. Cheesyness and plot convenience and cliche-ness of her defeat aside... And yes i like Luna but tbh not THAT much. My villain and i also would or could say her actions at the Canterlot wedding could be considered those of a traitor/deserter. But thats not the current point now is it?

@,

Failing two invasions in a row and still being arrogant is hardly good leadership.

@,

I was referring to Chrysalis....but yeah, Luna applies to that too. The princesses aren't gods, not by any means

@,And still some people portray the Princesses as living gods and elevate them beyond anything...

If they're not gods, then what are they, how could they have lived for a millennium(at least?)

@,

Nymphs aren't gods yet they live a long time too. Long live =/= god. Certain clams can live as long as Celestia and Luna

@@Nuke87654,

They don't even need to be immortal, just long lived. Lots of Greek myths had that, nymphs, satyrs, and centaurs come to mind

Clams don't have a brain, or a nervous system. Using magic must use a lot of energy. Just look at racehorses. All they're asked to do is run, and they die of exhaustion in 5 or 6 years.

@,

Terrible example, horses only live 30 years on average and race horse don't die young.

Again, you are using ad hominem. Magic "must" take a lot of energy? Who told you that? Until we get confirmation, we see no reason for it to be anything too bad. Not that it matters, Celestia and Luna live a posh life with no strain

Yes, no, no... if you really desire to know ask me... Also in Greek Mythology living long doesn't mean you are eternally young.

@,

Certain Satyrs lived a long time, then again, that quote came from a children's book, so it might not be accurate. Still, the point is that being long lived and being a god are not the same thing.

Hell, certain gods die, Amun comes to mind(I think he stayed dead)

Okay, but ponies on average have far shorter lifespans than horses, due to their excessesive crossbreeding and genetic defects.

Most ponies don't talk either, just because they're called ponies means nothing
