adventure Starting a fic. Seeking feedback on ideas.

After reading various stories and browsing through them around FiMFiction, I figured I had enough inspiration to start my own. Since this is going to be my first attempt at writing a fanfiction, I'm bound to make mistakes and look like an amateur. Before I begin any writing on it, I want to seek out criticism on some parts of my story I'm going to be making out.

It's going to be a changeling themed story with, of course, the main character being a changeling. However, he's not going to be your average looking changeling you'd see in some fics. To save time explaining what he looks like, here's how he's going to appear when I start on the first chapter:

There will be explanations for the way he looks in later chapters. As well as how his characteristics came to be.

Chrysalis will be in it as well, but she's a bit more of a tyrant in this due to "recent events" and thus, effecting her current rule in the hive. This will be given some depth throughout the story too.

So, my main questions are:

1: Would it be inconvenient to have flashbacks (chapters) in the middle of the story during its progression? Or having some take half a chapter? For example, they occur after the main character falls asleep and have one to explain him some more and keep the reader occupied until said character wakes up the next morning. Or when he's on his trek throughout his travels and nothing significant enough happens, so he daydreams about his past to pass the time.

2: I'm still working on a title for the fic, so how does "Ace In The Hoof" sound? The main character, at times, has been revered as a hero for taking on dangerous missions and saving his fellow changelings from near death experiences. He's been relied on for difficult tasks as such back then. But he's not the type to brag about his accomplishments. More stern than anything during his jobs.

3: I know fanfictions work within the author's head canon and all, but what do you think about regenerative parts on changelings? At one point, the character's horn breaks off and it normally takes several months for it to grow back and that's WITH medical aid. Left alone, they can take additional months to recover. I'm open to suggestions on this.

I may ask more later when I think of other topics. For now, if anyone can give their own constructive criticism on what I currently gave out and anything that may be helpful, that'd be appreciated.

I'm only going to answer 1, the other two are purely subjective and I don't like advising authors on things of that nature. Flashbacks of that length can majorly disrupt the flow of a story if you don't lead into them properly. Be sure the action in present time is quiet enough that you can lead into and out of it without loss of momentum. Flashbacks are usually long when the present narrative is going through a downtime in the plot's progression. Otherwise it's wise to keep them short or nonexistent.
