Circle of Friends Drawing (WIP)

This is a drawing I'm working on based on the fanfic "The Circle of Friends". If you've never read it, I suggest you do. It's sad but very beautiful.

This is just a quick concept sketch I did straight from my head. I'm probably going to use some reference pics of Twilight, Canterlot, etc. to make it look more accurate and attempt to color it in and make it look more like a painting. I've never done anything like this so don't expect too much. I'm just giving it a try.

And beings I know basically nothing about drawing in Photoshop, any pointers, criticism, or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's really good!

I'm not good at digital art myself, so I can't offer any pointers, but I DO know that this is an AMAZING picture! Fabulous work!

Whoa there. It's just a rough sketch to outline how I want to draw it. I'm not really good with colors or shading but I'm going to try to make it look like a painting. I'll probably watch some tutorials on Youtube or something. I just wanted to go ahead and draw this out since it was on my mind.

Well, I can give you pointers if you let me know which version of Photoshop you're using.

Also, nice concept. Best of luck with it in the end.

Thanks.

I'm using CS5 with a Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet. I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm thinking I'm going to refine the outlines of everything and go from there. I'm pretty much a complete noob. lol

Okay, so if you're using CS5, you should be aware that it has been designed around using Tablets, whereas older editions only supported it, though lacked ease of use.

Looking at the attached images, you can see the functions put into place with CS5 which may help you draw/color/shade more easily.

Of course, what you're going to want to make the most use of is Layers. I'm going to assume that you're at least familiar with how to use layers (if not, let me know). The most important use of layers is to ensure ease of editing later down the line for your image. For every major point of your image (i.e. Twilight's Outline, Color Fill, Cutie Mark) make a specific layer, if not 'Group' of layers. This will let you modify it alone and leave the remainder of the image untouched.

Keep your layers named in order to keep track of what they all are (Double Click a layer's name to re-name it). Orderly use of layering will get things done quickly.

Using layers and efficient pen tools will make this a much easier process on you, and if you need more help, just ask.
