CloudSeeker 23 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 i think the title says it all... :comeatus: so as princess of the night, raising the moon and watching the night may be a little bit exhausting, especially when you have to visit thousand of dreams. so how could it work? is it some kind of santa-claus deal and time stops whenever luna decides to visit a dream? or maybe the dreamtime goes much faster than the actual time or maybe luna can visit more dreams simultaniously? also, how does luna decide which dreams to visit? can she "feel" the distress of certain ponies? (as of right now i can only remember her in scoots and sweeties dreams when they had certain problems that had to be solved) also, how much can she really decide, what the pony is dreaming about? i mean, she didnt stop scoots nightmares (night-mares...hehehe get it? ) or maybe she wasnt able to? but she was able to alter sweeties dreams, so maybe she can not really decide the topic of a dream and is only able to alter it in some ways? so, let me know what you think
ReverieRiver 526 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 (edited) Here's my headcanon on it: When Luna dreamwalks, she enters this sort of realm from which she can enter any dream. Nightmares will stand out especially - maybe viewed with a darker aura of sorts - and it would seem that she chooses to go into the dreams of troubled young ponies to help them out. Now, I feel that Luna could manipulate the dream however she wishes to. However, she may choose to simply be an observer sometimes. How I see it, she doesn't want to magically fix everything, make the nightmare go away just like that. She wants to help the troubled pony face their problems and resolve them on their own. cuteycindyhoney 13,308 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 I forth the headcanon, and add a little to it. Luna can willingly enter the dream realm at any time. Normal ponies can only enter while their brains are in REM sleep. A nightmare would, in my opinion, produce a much stronger image for Luna to be able to link with. There are other types of dreams that would produce the emotional levels needed for contact, but Luna is a nice princess and doesn't mess with THOSE sorts of dreams. 1 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! M'aiq the Liar 5,804 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 My headcanon is it functions like that. Time does indeed go slower in dreams, or is atleast preceved that way due to how fast your brain is now processing data (as you do not need to register external stimuli). And nightmares stand out as they produce the most brain activity, with the emotional process of fear and all. 2 http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
Metemponychosis 1,262 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 I imagine that Luna has some sort of "mental construct" that works as a sort of "control room", kinda like that place Twilight was taken to when she got alicorn'd. This could operate on some sort of magical system with protocols to highlight important stuff, like nightmares. I guess it's a variation of what everyone has been saying up there: she sees there is a problem and enters that dream. I get the feeling that nightmares may actually be dangerous in some way, since the comic canonizes the existence of the "Nightmare Forces" and maybe, probably like the changelings, they harm the ponies when they "feed" of the host's emotions during a nightmare. https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. And I'm just getting started.

Hm, interesting thought... It's definitely possible.
Berry Cupcake 8 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 A dream always lasts only a few seconds, 30 tops (yes even if you traveled all around the world and saved Equestria twice it lasted 30 seconds). Also you don't have nightmares every night so Luna have all the time she needs to travel to everypony in need. For the detections she probably have like a room full of super high-tech computers (yep she keeps them just for her and her video games) in which she can see what's on each pony's mind. Ps: I feel like I've made horrible grammatical mistakes... Sorry, fever and stuff. ~ Chocolate kisses on the nose ~
Andaasonsan 3,205 April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 My theory is that being something of a demigod, she can split off Dungeons and Dragons style avatars that wander the dream world and can act independently, allowing her to focus her attention on other things.
