@,

Ariel giggled once more at Rainbow as she finally ceased her tickling, hovering just above the mare and smiling at her. Then, when she felt something prod her side, she squeaked in surprise, again finding her wings closing on reflex. With a yelp, she tumbled the short distance to the floor. Only slightly fazed by the fall to the soft floor, she laid there on her back for a few moments before she sat up and looked around curiously to see if she could see what or who had done it.

@@Miss Reaper

Rainbow was panting from all of that laughing. Blitz looked at Ariel innocently as if he didn't do anything. Storm was about to say something when he decided not to and let Ariel figure it out for herself. Blitz let out little snicker, but quickly tried to prevent further laughter from escaping.

@,

Ariel looked from Storm to Blitz, tilting her head in curiosity in slight confusion. She had the feeling one of them might have done it, but which one? One of her ears flicked when she heard Blitz snicker, and she looked to him at once. She stared at him for a few long moments with her large, innocent eyes before she tilted her head again and inquired, "Uncle Blitz?"

"Dang it!" Blitz said with a smile and  irritated that Ariel caught him. "Ugh, I swear ponies always catch me!" Blitz said. "That's because you always give yourself away Blitz." Thunder stated as he went to go sit next to Blitz. Rainbow Dash had gone to get something. She then returned. "Who's up for a game of Battlecloud?" She asked.

Ariel giggled as her suspicions were confirmed; she hadn't known for positive, but his reaction clinched it for her. Then she looked over at Rainbow when she returned, asking if anyone wanted to play a game called Battlecloud. The filly trotted up to Rainbow, looking at her curiously. "What is Battlecloud?" she asked, not being familiar with the game.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Here...I'll teach you." Rainbow stated as she went about setting up the game. "Okay, the object of the game is to rid all of your enemies clouds. There are normal clouds, mega-clouds, storm-clouds and even a gold cloud. Here's the catch. You won't be able to see my set up. You'll have to guess where my clouds are on the board. Rainbow then showed Ariel her board with no clouds on it. "See those letters and numbers there?" Rainbow asked.

Ariel listened intently to Rainbow as she explained the game, studying her side of the game board and the game pieces with pure curiosity. The numbers and letters on the board were only brought to her attention, however, when Rainbow pointed them out. "Yeah... What about them?" she asked.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Well...that's where your clouds will be. On the bottom board, place your clouds. The top board is where you'll put these special markers here." Rainbow stated revealing a case of white and red markers. "The white markers mean you missed, and the red ones means you hit. Like let's say you put one of your megaclouds on A-5, and I guess A-3. That would be a miss." Rainbow explained.

Ariel reached to take one of the white markers so she could examine it more closely, all the while continuing to listen to Rainbow's explanation of the game. Then she studied the board some more, trying to figure out how the placement worked. After a few moments, she nodded and said to Rainbow, "Okay. I get it so far... I think."

@@Miss Reaper,

"The top board on your set is for guessing where my clouds are. Once you call out a letter and a number, like F-2, you'll put the corresponding marker there if it's a hit or miss." Rainbow explained as she began to set up her set. "Now, set up your clouds anywhere you want on the bottom board." Rainbow stated.

Ariel nodded to indicate that she understood; at least, so she hoped. Though trying to bear in mind that she should let go of the past, she couldn't help but have a few lingering doubts about herself - about her own intelligence, among other things - brought on by her former parents' constant yelling and criticism, most of which she had taken to heart at the time. But she tried to shake those thoughts as she studied the board, shifting her focus to where she should place her pieces. After a minute or so, she started to set up her clouds on the board, trying to carefully space them apart.

@@Miss Reaper,

"It's best if you seperate them apart." Rainbow advised. She was still thinking about where to put her pieces. Even though it was Ariel's first time playing, she would still try to win. But if she didn't win, she wouldn't care. Her perfect streak was broken by Thunder Dash a few weeks prior.

Ariel nodded, her attention mostly focused on her board. She'd already placed a few pieces, but she was thinking about where to place the rest for a few minutes. She indeed tried to keep the pieces spaced apart, keeping that in consideration as she thought of where to place her other pieces. After several more moments of thought, she carefully placed the rest of her pieces, putting them as strategically as she knew how; that is, simply making certain that the clouds were spaced evenly apart.

@@Miss Reaper,

"Ready?" Rainbow asked as she finished placing her last megacloud.

Meanwhile Thunder Dash was watching television with Blitz and Storm Rush was out running an errand down in Ponyville. He had to take some papers over to the town hall to get them stamped for approval. They were weather factory status papers for the week.

Ariel paused, looking over her board and making certain that her pieces were placed exactly as she wanted them. Since this was her first time ever playing this, she wanted to do it right; who knew, maybe she'd be able to win against Rainbow! But for the moment, that was just hopeful thinking. After confirming that everything was where she wanted it to be, she looked at Rainbow and said, "Ready!"

"You can go first." Rainbow stated as she waited for Ariel to call out a spot. Thunder Dash watched as Ariel and Rainbow were about to begin the game. Storm Rush suddenly came back. "Well...finally those status papers went through." He stated as he went to sit down.

Ariel glanced at Storm for a moment before returning her attention to the game. She studied the board again, bearing in mind the configuration of the numbers and letters that coincided with the different spots on the board. The filly was quiet in thought for several moments as she tried to carefully consider her selection before she called out, "Um... A-7?"

"What?!" Rainbow shrieked as she looked at where A7 was. It was right where one of her stormclouds were. "Th...that's never happened before! A hit on the first move?" Rainbow said surprised as she put a hit marker on the first hole of her stormcloud. "Great job Ariel!" Thunder cheered as he continued to watch.

Ariel blinked, dumbfounded for a moment. Did she really succeed in getting a hit in her first game, let alone within the first turn? When she realized that that was what indeed had happened, she giggled happily, her little wings fluttering a bit in joy. "This is fun!" she quickly concluded about the game, even though it only was the first turn.

@@Miss Reaper,

"B-5". Rainbow stated as she waited for Ariel to say whether it was a hit or a miss.

Storm Rush was organizing his papers again. "How long are you gonna organize those papers storm. Jeez, you do it like 5 hours a day." Thunder stated. "Well I am one of the top heads in the weather factory, so I've got a lot of papers to organize." Storm stated.

Ariel looked on her board, again figuring the configuration of the board to where her clouds were in relation to the numbers and letters; and she was pleasantly surprised that the spot Rainbow had called out, wasn't near any of her clouds. "Miss." She placed a white marker at the spot. Then, supposing that it was her turn again to call out another spot, she said, "D-5!"

"Miss!" Rainbow said with a giggle. "D-3." Rainbow guessed as she waited for Ariel to answer.

Meanwhile Storm Rush had finished with his papers. "Now I've gotta take these back to the office...ugh..." Storm grunted as he went and stacked the papers so that he could take them to the office.

She frowned slightly when she saw that the spot called out was on one of her storm clouds. "Hit," she stated, placing a red marker on the according spot. Then she paused as she thought of the next spot she should call out, starting to really get into the game. After a moment, she called out, "C-4!"

(OOC: "When in doubt, C-4." ;) If you know where that comes from, there'll be a cookie for you! :P )

"Hit," she said with a slight pout as she placed a red hit marker on one of her cloud pieces. She couldn't help but wonder who would end up winning in the end as the game went on. Rainbow was, of course, more skilled than the filly; but Ariel, hopefully, had a little beginner's luck on her side. "B-4" she called out this time.
