I love Minecraft, but I think appeals to certain people.

Well that's what I thought at least.

Apparently it happens to be the most popular indie on planet earth.

Yeah Mojang has made other games, but none of them have come close to rivaling the popularity of Minecraft.

Pretty much the most popular YouTubers play the game (exept Pewds [although I love his video]).

Approximently there is about 20,000 PC accounts bought each day at the most.

I love the game.

I truly do, but that's a bit nuts.

I mean what makes Minecraft SO popular?

Probably because its a sandbox game with so much hidden potential and everyone swarmed to it, that everyone else wants to join in

It allows us to get in touch with our inner creative side. And I think a lot of people love being able to have control over something. It speaks to multiple parts of us. Although, in the end, I got tired of it because I'm not that big on building, and I don't like hardcore pvp, so that left only the survival aspect. And even that got old after a while.

with creative mode it makes it fun for people to build things and post them online.

Yeah I'm an experimenter with mods also.

People claim that they know how to mod when they get mod packs like FTB or Tekkit. *facehoof*

I on the other hand create my own modded survivals by individually taking out the mods I want and applying them to Minecraft.

I think it's because it's fun for all ages and there is no goal in the game, so that makes it easier to play. Besides, our youth is all about what's new and wanting the next best thing and Minecraft offers that for all ages, in my opinion.

Because you can literally do anything in it. It is the ultimate virtual lego box. It gives you the tools and items needed to do anything you want, anything at all. From creating an urban city, to massive fantasy castles, you can do anything. And what's that? You are board of the vallina experience? Well don't worry, there are so many mods for this game, that the possibilities really are endless.

I've been playing Minecraft for about 3 years now. I still love it! I never get bored of it!

I actually just recently got the PS3 version of Minecraft. :3

 

Minecraft is a great Sandbox game and you can really do so much with it, like creating pixel art in creative mode, or battling in multiplayer. You can even do singleplayer and create your own house and discover things. 

 

It's just so much fun in my opinion, and it gets updated very often!

There's a shat load of MC songs.

Count the good ones and bad one and I bet there's over 1000.

According to Wikipedia, Minecraft has sold over 35 million copies across all platforms. That's kind of awesome.

 

 I do own Minecraft and I have played it. I thought it was pretty enjoyable for a time, but admittedly I do think that it eventually gets too tedious and repetitive for it's own good. That's not saying it's bad, I just think I enjoy other types of games more. It's popular because of just how limitless it is. It has no rules, the ability to build whatever you imagine, it has no real ending (not counting the ender dragon), and the pc version sports near limitless worlds (not technically but they might as well be), and a large variety of mods, texture packs and skins to customize the game to your wishes. Plus, multiplayer in this kind of game has to be a real attraction.

 

 Oh, and I really like the soundtrack. It is really good.

I've been a fan of Minecraft ever since 2011 and I still don't get bored of it becuase I keep finding awesome servers and great people to play with, so probably the reason why Minecraft is so popular is becuase you can do so much thing with like play mini-games or just plain survival it all depends on what you like and someone would have made a mod or plug-in out of it!

Imo Minecraft actually is more of a modding platform, the modding community is pretty fantastic and you can make the game pretty much however the hell you want it to be.

 

On the other hand, the vanilla game is actually kinda ass even with that in mind, It makes me shudder a bit when companies such as Naughty Dog and Fucking Nintendo EAD got outranked by Mojang in a top companies list by EDGE.
