Cassafrass 249 April 18, 2014 Share April 18, 2014 I'm not super great with critique, and I'm sure someone else will come with better advice or whatever, but they are soooo cute! I love your art style... especially on the Fluttershy drawing! They are adorable... the only thing I would say is that they would look even better colored in if you took the time to do so. But they look adorable! :3 Great job. Buuuut since your taking requests... just for fun, I would love to see Rainbow Dash doing a Sonic Rainboom! Either that or Derpy Hooves and the Doctor together... in any pose or whatever you liked. But if you aren't up to it that's fine.

As for coloring: Unfortunately my "specialty" I gues you would call it is just in boring old gray pencils as of now... It would be cool if a digital artist or something took a drawing and colored it or something but thats a whole different topic lol. Since Derpy is amazing I'll draw her and Dr. Hooves together and put the drawing in with the others. I've already got an idea for the scene and I'll have it up either tomorrow or saturday! Silverwisp the Bard 2,353 April 18, 2014 Share April 18, 2014 These are all very good; you seem to get a good grasp o n ponies. I especially love the expressions and the clouds in the first picture. Hmm critique.... Fluttershy: The linework is a bit wriggly in places, but that seems fixed in the other pieces, so that's alright Rarity: The shading on the leftside legs seems a bit excessive, the mane could use some highlights Twilight: The lower eyelid of the right eye looks a bit strange, though it is a pretty tricky perspective As a general suggestion, maybe try out doing the shading with clear cut edges; in my experience too realistic shading can clash with the cartoony style of ponies. 1 My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily Tomorrow will take us away, far from home No one will ever know our names But the bard songs will remain. Thanks for the help. Looking back at rarity, I intentionally left out any mane/tail highlights but now I see I should have put them in, seeing as how I did add shadows (I always miss this kinda stuff!). And there's definetly something up with Twilight's eyes but it's the left lower eyelid that looks a little weird to me, actually. Btw I've seen some of your drawings of armored ponies and stuff and you've got some really solid drawing skills, especially with how you're able to figure out how to "dress the ponies up" with clothing/armor and stuff and generally just sketching out ideas. Quite impressive, seriously. Do you happen to have any drawings of the mane six you could show me? I'd love to see how you draw them, since those are the main ponies I'm trying to draw now. Oh and if you want to critique my drawing requests I finish as I post them please do. I'm putting up derpy and dr.hooves tomorrow morning so check em out! Antidaeophobia 299 April 19, 2014 Share April 19, 2014 Hey guys. I've been drawing ponies for about a month now and I made my first fan art thing (Equestrian Battle Charge) recently. It turned out nice and everything but it was also really busy and unorganized and took like almost a week to finish... In the end, I found out I like making simpler pony drawings like these. They're way more enjoyable to make and I actually prefer looking at these than that giant battle charge I drew. Anyway, I'm looking for critique as well as offering to draw anyone's favorite pony in any pose, scene, etc you want (No OC's yet, however). The drawings will be in the same simple style and quality as the ones I now present to you... Fluttershy and Angel Fluttershy and Angel.jpg Rarity Trying on Boots Rarity Trying on Boots.jpg Twilight Hurt Twilight Hurt.jpg I'll probably post some more drawing later or edit the contrast on these scans because they look a little dark, but that might just be me. Anyway, how do they look? Really excellent work, you do a wonderful job with action and expression. Your drawings are also really adorable and sweet and you did a great job of capturing their personalities. The only critic I would have is to try and clean up your scans a little. I know how difficult that can be though, I only recently got onto a tablet and off of scanning my work, so it can be really difficult. Perhaps inking and making the lines darker would help as well. I'd really like to see your work with some nice crisp inked lines to polish you're already excellent work. If you'd draw Discord and Fluttershy for me; maybe doing something silly or napping together (maybe with a bunch of other animals), I'd really like that. I'll print it out and put it with my collection next to my desk. Keep up the good work, you've really come far in such a short amount of time. My ponies when I first started looked like foxes, so you rock. 1 Art & Commission info: http://www.alektorotelumphobia.deviantart.com

Probably should fix that...Anyways, here are the presentable ones (if you can ignore the giraffe necks): Will do. Wow that's great. The knight in the second one is really good, the style you made it in is perfect. Looks very unique/ original as well as being well drawn technically. And the decoration and clothing on rarity in the last one is dripping with style lol. Thanks for posting these, I really like your style, great job (that knight's amazing btw!). Really excellent work, you do a wonderful job with action and expression. Your drawings are also really adorable and sweet and you did a great job of capturing their personalities. My ponies when I first started looked like foxes, so you rock. Thanks for the compliments/request! Ok this is really important now: when you say clean up the scans, how exactly do I do that?. I know it would be good to have nice dark lines, but when I'm drawing them I can only go so dark with a no. 2 mechanical pencil (The lines and dark areas on the real drawings are as dark as they can be). When I scan them I adjust the lighting in photoshop to match the original as much as possible but they're alsways off, no matter what (example : actual drawing has gray pencil lines, scan makes them VERY dark gray/black). Anyway, I could adjust the lighting in such a way that the lines are black and the background/highlihts are pure white. Is that what I should be doing? I like to keep my scans faithful to the original drawings (It's really hard), but if it's not "cheating " or anything lol I could adjust them to be cleaner but then they won't exactly look like the real thing. Lol you can probably tell I'm new to scanning drawings. If anyone can help let me know. Oh and I'll draw fluttershy and discord, but it'll be done sometime this week, not sure when though. It'll be something like the derpy/dr hooves im about to post for someone, so come back and check it out later! Since you said you want to print the drawing I'll put a little extra effort in to make it print worthy, but let me know about the scanning thing, I'll post the drawing in my first post again but they'll be cleaned up the best way I know how, so you can tell me if I'm doing it right. Edit: Ok sorry I just posted a huge wall of text in a thread about pictures... OMG thanks for taking my request! I'm sure it will look amazing... especially since they are two of my favorite ponies. I totally ship them. ANYWAYS, haha don't worry about it... it looks beautiful just the way it is. I totally understand though... I'm not very good at coloring in my art either... although I'm not a super great drawer anyways. XD Ok Derpy and the Doctor are done! I put them in the main post. I'm still playing around with how to scan drawings so I'm not sure how this scan looks (I tried to make it look as clear as possible but I think I overdid the contrast but I'm not sure. If you want a more "natural" looking scan let me know and I'll put it up. Do you prefer scans like this or like the original ones a put up? It's really hard to make a scan look like the real drawing...). Anyway I love how Derpy looks in this, I can't stop looking at her! What do you think? The best thing you can do is after you're done drawing, ink your work with a thin tip pen. You can buy grey scale line art ink pens, I bought mine in grey scale and sepia. They were really helpful. Investing in comic ink pens is worth it. This will give you nice crisp line work . Also, you can use some of the grey scale markers to add shading (I like Winsor & Newton), or you can color with grey in Photoshop depending on what style you're looking to do. If you're trying to stay traditional, like what I use to do, is after I was done drawing, I erased as much of the extra lines, smudging and extra stuff I didn't want to show up in a scan as I could. Then, in Photoshop, I would use to contrasting and brightness. However, if I wanted a line art, I would draw the original drawing in aqua pencil and then scan it, I'd use the ink pen and the threshold tool. Most of the smudging you can clean up with the erase tool in your Photoshop as well. I hope I helped some, but if I didn't answer your question let me know. I'm always happy to help another artist. I'll check into it this weekend and see if I can't tell you an easier and more helpful way to get it done. I look forward to seeing your drawing. I've started a collection with pieces people have drawn or made for me over 10yrs. It's really cool to get different styles of peoples work and how they progress. 1 Art & Commission info: http://www.alektorotelumphobia.deviantart.com

I kinda made the tone on the braided part of her mane a tad too dark but I can fix that if you want (I'm probably gonna fix it anyway, it's really bothering me,lol). Anyway I made her tired and kinda just staring off into space. I imagine she's practicing really hard. I based her longbow off of Celestia's crown. Ok I'm done, what do you think? As I said I like to keep scans as true to the real drawing as possible, but I'm finding out that it's very very hard...Anyway you answered my question but I need one last thing, the two requests I did so far of derpy/dr hooves and the oc vera were adjusted in photoshop for a cleaner appearance than the first drawings I put up. I also readjusted the other drawings and have them posted somewhere in one of my replies here, they're easy to find. Can you look at them quickly and just let me know if these are the kind of scans I should be making? Is that how you want fluttershy and discord? I mean they're obviously cleaner but they also no longer look like the originals contrast wise? Idk this stuff is harder than I thought. I've been drawing for years but only started scanning and playing with photoshop like 2 weeks ago. It was a nightmare scanning some of my heavily shaded drawings for my new deviant art account (A couple took up 2 sheets of paper because they were big scenes. Figuring out how to stitch them together and everything was very tedious, lol). Sorry for writing so much but I really wanna figure this stuff out. Thanks.
