Social Justice Warriors on Tumblr

I think you might be missing that if you're white and gay but a woman you are still "privileged". At least that's one trend that I've noticed. But I only follow a few of them so it might not be that widespread.

White and gay I haven't seen much, but I have noticed quite a few "warriors" stating that white straight cisgendered women "don't count" as minority or oppressed peoples. It's utterly ridiculous, saying that such women don't face persecution and "have it easy" just because other women have different minority statuses and are potentially more oppressed or disadvantaged. How does a supposed feminist possibly forget that black men were given the right to vote in the US before white women? It's absurd!

But ranting aside, the whole thing boils down into this ridiculous competition of who's the "most oppressed" for people who think like that. It's awful, as if these people would rather be given special treatment for mocking those who fall into any majority group than actually help their fellow minority members live better lives.

They seem to have some weird delusions too. There's the classic "Teach men not to rape" thing(BS) as well as women being unable to rape and defending the rape of a disabled kid because he probably wanted it anyway

They also get really hissy over the most pathetic things. I told someone that they shouldn't be bothered so much if other people use their AU Version of Elsa as a sex fiend(Even though she's been fine with it before). Here are the some responses

"Lol, look at this ungrateful prick. You don't tell the creator of the character what to do"

"Don't be mean to someone because disgusting crap turns you on"

"Don't police people, jackass"

Keep in mind all I said was

You shouldn't get so bothered over the smutty shipping. It's OOC as Hell, but just ignore it. No one's forcing you to look at it. Friendly advice :)

Hate them. Hate them hate them hate them hate them hate them.

They're just what makes tumblr unbearable. I unfollow everyone who has drama all over their blog, then after the drama ceases, i follow them again.

''Don't hate on people for their gender, race or sexuality!'' Tumblr says collectively while hating on straight white men for their gender, race and sexuality.

They haaaaaate white people in general, so i never give out my race in case i get bashed.

http://www.reddit.com/r/tumblrinaction This subreddit is a good source for finding the crazies.

I get where some of them are coming from, but they go about it in such a silly way. Essentially TSJWs at the minute:

  • I hate white people
  • I hate straight people
  • I hate cis people
  • I hate men

Please tell me if I'm missing any, but that's the basic gist.

Yeah, crazies will be crazies, but it's amusing to watch on /r/TiA.

Don't forget to hate any woman who has sex with a man and doesn't see it as rape!

There are degrees of crazy. I tend to keep to the saner portions of Tumblr, but some of the SJW stuff does leak through occasionally. Most of the time, what comes through is pretty fair minded. Kieron Gillen, for instance, often posts some great critique of the state of women in the comics industry. (He's a writer for Marvel, BTW.) There were a couple of whitewashing blogs that weren't too bad. Generally, if someone keeps reblogging utter vitriol, I unfollow them. I don't have the energy for that kind of nonsense, and I refuse to get worked up about it.

Sad thing is, I usually agree with the point the sane ones are trying to convey. (That there are levels of privilege, that we should keep our own privileges in mind when engaging with those who have fewer, that we should dismantle stereotypes, create opportunities to combat societal imbalance and treat everyone fairly.) But the crazy side has taken all of that and utterly perverted it. They think it's a perfectly sound tactic to combat hate with more hate, and that just plain doesn't work.

I understand how sometimes you need to shout to be heard. But you can shout without flinging insults and rude stereotypes toward everyone you deem to have more privilege than you. All that does is alienate potential allies and make everyone look at you like you're flipping insane.

It's hard to listen to droning about privilege when all it comes down to in practice is blaming you for how *other people* react to you.

They're also just horrible people

1. One person said if you take a trans women home and you only find out they were trans when you bed them, you should still have sex with them

2. There was a petition to kill all CIS people

3. A 34 year old woman was molesting a 17 year old disabled kid by sucking him off and other lewd acts. The response? He probably wanted it or he coerced her
