Big Macintosh would address his sister's friends? As of currently Big Mac has never actually referred to Applejack's friends by name, and to my memory, has only ever referred to Applejack by name once, in which he referred to her by the nickname her friends call her by, AJ. I've seen in fanfiction, that Big Mac is quite formal and polite, and puts Miss in front of the names when talking to the other Mane 6 members. so how do you think he would refer to them in-show?

Actually thinking of him putting miss in front of their names is adorable and sweet, but I would think he would just say their names as they are? I don't think there's such a strong need to be formal.

Big Mac just seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't call people by their names.

I think he would call them by their name. Not sure he would be inclined to call them "Miss" since he technically has known them for quite some time now. It's more of an introductory thing to make an impression on new folk. Now that they are so close to his sister I feel he would treat them like family. Maybe even call them by nickname at some point. Who knows. Gotta love Big Mac though.

I've always had the headcanon that Rainbow Dash secretly has a crush on Big Mac, but is afraid to act on it because she's afraid of ruining her friendship with Applejack. That's why she's always hanging around Sweet Apple Acres. Big Mac, of course knows, but keeps quiet about it.

I think the miss or mam thing would work out for him. He seems to be quite a bit older than the other characters so he has that going for him. Hes a soft hearted southern boy. I'd imagine if hes talking about them when they are not there he would use their name, but to their face, I would not be surprised if he said miss or mam.

I could see him being quite polite perhaps a bit too much at times with "miss" and "mam" but other than that I could see him calling the mane 6 by their names.

He seems fairly polite, but he would likely refer to the Mane 6 by name, only resorting to formality if feeling awkward.

 

I don't care how he addresses them, I just want to hear him talk more in general!

While I would like to see further character development for him, there is merit to silence (to an extent). When you think about it, what he said to the CMC in Ponyville Confidential carried more weight because it was in contrast to his normal demeanor. He seems intelligent and reserved, but I don't think that translates to unnecessary formal speech.  

 

 

If you ask me, I don't think his silence has ever had merit. It's boring.

There is a fine line between a character being reserved and being boring. That line has definitely been crossed, but I do not think that means Big Mac needs to become a chatterbox. He needs to be written with more dialogue, don't get me wrong, but his line can be written to convey the idea that he chooses his words carefully and speaks to the point. Basically, his character is one that says as much as possible in as few words as possible. Edited April 30, 2014 by Frith is Magick
