After getting lost in random thoughts while looking out the window he turned back to see that another stallion had sat down with him and crystal. He jumped and let out a sound that sounded sort of like words but were indistinguishable at the surprise of having a random pony pop up out of nowhere, before returning to a casual expression.

"Hey" he said, greeting the stallion. "You two know each other?"

Raze turned towards the other stallion who had just spoke.

"Nah, we just met," he said with a slight smile. He then saw a book sticking out of the stallion's bags, titled Poker for Dummies. He raised a brow to that.

"So, you're going to Las Pegasus and you don't even know how to play poker?" he asked kindly.

Crystal followed Raze's look and spotted the book too. Sh esnickered slightly, but then realised she never even played poker too. She shrunk a bit in her seat. "Well, i never really played poker either. But c'mon, it's Las Pegasus! There's got to be a plce that teaches poker out there somewhere..." She rose a hoof to her chin, before dismissing the thought. "I'm not going for the gambling anyway."

Raze smiled once again. "Well, if that's the case, I can always teach both of you how to play; it's not really that hard of a game. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes pretty easy. I know quite a bit about it."

He reached into his bags, and pulled out a small deck of playing cards.

"You game?" he asked both of them.

Crystal smiled as Raze offered to play some poker. She happily nodded. "Yeah i'm game. This should be fun!" She turned to speak to Stardust. "You in too Stardust?" She kinda hoped he would play too, as it would make for a pretty6 awkward situation for them to play poker as Stardust watched.

(OOC: So, I guess all of you are still on the train then...I guess Melody is the only one in Los Pegasus right now...I really don't want to rewind my post so...)

Melody continued to walk around in the city, looking around at all of the glamour that shown. She was a little bit nervous about meeting new ponies.

Ochre Dust drags his bag through the Las Pegasus streets. "Of course the contest I win doesn't provide shuttling to the hotel from the train station I end up using. Should have just agreed to the extra transfer and saved myself the trouble." He looks up from the street to see an alicorn down the road. There are no guards and no fans. She must have been one of those born alicorns, or maybe a pegacorn if she had no earth pony powers. Regardless she probably wasn't royalty. It was certainly strange at least, if not entirely heard of. Regardless, she was probably raised to be a proper role model. Maybe she could provide directions to the hotel from there. He trotted towards the yellow-winged unicorn mare and called out. "Hello!? Excuse me ma'am!"

(OOC: Dang, I received absolutely no notification about this. Well, might as well make myself useful and join the poor schmuk alone in Las Pegasus  ;)  )

(OOC: Thanks for having your OC come meet mine. It was getting tiresome having to wait and be inactive.)

"Oh...uhm...hello." Melody stated taking a step back and shying away a bit. "Did you...need anything?" Melody asked started to quiver very lightly. It was a big city and she wasn't very used to it.

Ochre pauses as he notices the mare shying away. He looked behind him first, then to himself. He didn't look intimidating, did he? That'd be odd. Just that day the stallion managing the treat trolley on the train had mistaken him for a mare. It was quite frankly a life-long problem. Regardless, the mare was scared, so that meant keeping his distance.

"Uh, hi. I won a radio competition recently, and I'm just looking for where I can find the hotel from here?"

Ochre walks alongside the mare, nodding cheerfully. "Thank you very much. I'm Ochre Dust. I guess I'm not really from any place in particular. I go where I'm needed to help build new homes and civil buildings. I recently got back from helping build some brick buildings for Appleloosa's bank, town hall, school and doctor's office. So did you win the competition as well, Miss...?"

"Oh, there there." Ochre reaches a hoof over to drape over Melody's withers. "Shyness is nothing to be ashamed of. Let's get to the hotel, and get settled down in a nice, calm, controlled environment, and we can talk about whatever you want. Sound like a plan?"

"Yeah, sounds good" Stardust said with a smile. "I've always meant to learn, but ever got around to it. Too much making music, not enough social life" He said jokingly.

"Do you think we should go to the food cart? That way we'll actually have a table"

The train jolted forward as it left canterlot station and made for its final destination.

"Alright, sounds good to me," Raze said as he got up and went over to the food cart with Stardust and Crystal.

Once they found a table and were all seated, he began to shuffle the deck and started passing cards, ending up with a total of two each for all three of them.

"Now, let me give you some key advice before I tell you how the game works," he said. "Poker is just as much a common sense game as it is a game of luck. You gotta know when to start, and when to stop. Don't throw your money in there willy nilly if you feel like the other people at the table may have a better hand than you. Basically, go with your gut instinct. If you feel like you're at a loss, you stop right there."

"Key advice #2: keep a straight face. Don't show any emotion once the dealer starts dealing. Don't groan or wince when you have a bad hand, and especially don't show signs of happiness when you have a good one. The other players can use this to their advantage, and can decide whether it's good or not to bet money against you. Your face needs to be completely devoid of emotion. You may have heard of this before; it's called a poker face."

"Now, the goal of poker is to get pairs. One or both cards in your hand need to match at least some of the five cards on the table if you want to win, whether it be in number, suit, etc. However, if none of you have any sort of pair once all five cards are laid out on the table, you can still win by having the card of the highest value out of all the players' hands. They call this the High Card."

Raze looked at both of them. "You getting this so far? Got any questions?"

Red Cedar stepped off the train from Vanhoover and looked around him. Even from the station platform, the vista of the city beyond was impressive. There was the skyline of towering buildings, the bright lights, the sounds of the city, the throngs of ponies bustling everywhere in search of good times.

All in all, it was definitely not the kind of place Red would have chosen to come on vacation. he could hardly argue with a free trip, however, and so, if for no other reason than to say he'd been to Las Pegasus, here he was.

Walking over to the Station's information boards, he looked over the map of the city, trying to get his bearings and figure out where he was to be staying.

Construction. Mostly I'm good at mixing brick mortar. One time I was with a team tasked with repairing the country bridges along the old road system leading to the Crystal Empire. Just day in and day out of mixing mortar for the team to use in the morning, helping out the chef with spicing up the rations we were given. I remember one time we were by just a small creak, but the bridge was so badly damaged we must have been there a week getting it all fixed. I found some basil to add to the the soup, and he had made a broth of eggs and sunflower seed oil for a vegetable soup... There was a village close by that had a bakery... Mmmm, the baguettes melted in our mouths. It was work to be sure but it was the best food we managed during that time.

What about you? Are you okay with telling me what your special talent is?

"Well...uhm..." Melody hesitated. She then gulped and lit her horn. She then made the wind play a tune, which attracted a nearby bird. It then played a continuation of the tune. Melody was taking nervous steps, hoping that this new pony she met wouldn't say that her talent was pathetic.

Ochre smiles as he begins to hear the music, but a massive grin dominates his face when he sees the bird approach and continue the tune. "Music without an instrument? That's amazing. Have you ever performed? Maybe you've recorded some music perhaps? That's neat. It reminds me of the sound wind makes when it blows through a half-finished building." Ochre shivers a bit. "Hauntingly beautiful. Can you make other instrument sounds by directly controlling the air?"

He briefly looks up to see that the two of them are approaching a hotel. Listening for a response, he begins to lead the way into the building.

"Hey there, it's alright, stay focused on me. I'll handle getting keys to our room at the front desk. Just take deep breaths and count to ten. It's a beautiful talent you have, okay?" Ochre proceeds towards the front desk just a short distance away, and presents his papers as a winner of the competition to the front desk. The mare at the front desk looks over to Melody, nods, and hooves over a second set of keys.

Ochre returns to Melody, and offers her one set of keys. "They have a large suite meant typically for groups, separate bedrooms and bathrooms, with a central lounge and kitchen that the rooms are connected to. I have your keys here. Is the breathing working?"

"There you go, we're almost there." Ochre leads Melody towards one of the elevators, walking backwards so as to keep facing here. Goodness, it's like coaxing a filly out from between their mother's legs. He presses the 'call elevator' button and then guides her in. He presses the button for their floor, and begin their ascent. He sits, sighing in relief, before settling into watching Melody to see if she gets nervous over something else. He silently prays she isn't afraid of heights or enclosed spaces.
