Spoiler section for discussion

First of all, I'm sorry if this has been suggested before, but I don't really have the time to search for another topic like this one. :/

Well, I'm annoyed with the "Recently discussed forum topics" section. I want to avoid spoilers, but there are loads of topics that have spoilers in their title. And I can't really avoid them, because they're not posted in their own section, and blocking them would mean blocking other topics that might interest me.

So my suggestion is to create a subforum to discuss spoilers and stuff. That way we won't have stray spoilers wandering around, and I can simply block them from showing in the "recently discussed forum topics" section. of my front page.

That would be good idea, though I only see a small problem with it. When the episode has long since passed, and there are other normal topics about it, the spoiler thread wouldn't exactly be spoilering anymore and would just be a thread discussing the episode or to be thing, and so wouldn't it need to be transferred to the normal area at some point?
I'm pretty sure the Admins and Mods will have some trouble directing all those topics into one section.

Maybe a section of the forums be put in into place for season 5 discussion would be a good idea, but it might be a bit too much effort to get all the spoilered threads organised.

Hm... I guess you're right. Well, my solution would be to create a user-driven system.

Like, if the topic hasn't been commented in more than 2 weeks, then it gets moved to the Archive (or somewhere else, I don't know). If it's not a spoiler anymore, then there could have an option to vote this thread as "Not a Spoiler" and, after a certain amount of votes, automatically move it to the normal discussion section.

And for that I would guess that the OP would have to specify where the proper discussion forum/subforum for that would be when creating the thread, so that the auto-move knows where to put it.

Aye. People don't throw "SPOILER!" out enough, and when they do, it always seems to be at the very end where you can't see it from the index if you click on the topic -_-

As someone who frequents Show Discussion, that's where this is definitely the most problematic, and I had the season ending spoiled for me around the time the season was at its mid-point because of sloppy spoilering. I didn't want that, and I do my best to block it out, but the damage has been done.

There's nothing I can think of that can fix this problem in the long run, but I think creating a whole forum section would be a bit overboard.

Perhaps a spoiler prefix would be helpful? Like you see in the fanfiction section:

A spoiler prefix with a bold color that's screaming "attention!" like a blood red or sharp orange with the word "SPOILER" shouldn't be too hard to make, and it would cut down on this nonsense without having to create a whole new section for the forums. That's my take on it, at least :D

I would be okay with a Spoiler Section! It would certainly help members who dislike Spoilers avoid Spoiler-related topics. ^^

Yeah, that could work too. I have thought of that before, and I can't remember why I didn't put it in this topic too. Guess my hurry got the best out of me.

The only thing is that it would need to show up on the title, and currently prefixes are only show when seen on the board. So we would either need a way to append the prefix to the topic title, or we would need to make a rule or something to put a

prefix on titles. Either way, the most important thing is to leave it clear that spoilers must be handled with care.

I support this! I never read the spoiler topics (I never know what's going to happen in the upcoming episodes), but sometimes some members forget to write SPOILERS in their topic title, but with this section they won't have to.

And we'd simply avoid it and block it in the recently discussed topics section.

I'm back, to say that once again, I've been spoiled to something in the finale because a topic wasn't censored.

I really really dislike being revealed to spoilers, even if it's unintentional like in this topic title.

Mods, Admin, it would be a very good decision to make if a section were to be added. Many members who prefer to have a spoiler free time being an active member of the forums, such as myself, I'm sure would really appreciate something like this.

And the new problem will be that people don't post their spoiler topics in the right section, instead :3

Throwing them into a subforum won't work, IMO. We've had several topics discussing ways of addressing the spoiler issue, and none of them have cracked the idea. I believe Feld0 had some tagging system in mind that would work to assist in this, but I don't recall where it's at.

Well, you always have the "Move a Topic" option, right? New members will learn. Such as we all have, the way of the Brony.

About tagging, I don't think many members actually use it how it's supposed to. I think a spoiler sub-forum would be an amazing idea.

You guys have to should be sympathetic about this, today wasn't the first time I was revealed to a major spoiler in MLP. The season finale, to beat it all.

Pretty please. :)

Not the kind of tagging I meant. I meant a new system that would be implemented.

x) It's not about waiting for someone to say please, or for someone to tell us the very real problems with not having a spoiler system in place. We know all of this, already. It's about finding a solution that works, and I don't think just throwing things in a subforum will solve anything. Will readdress the issue as a whole with the others.

Or just put in title the title of thread

Eg."

some future episode preview or some s***"

@ is right, maybe that episode is already premiered already, and it will be moved by mods, and the section will be empty most of the time, if the section is added

@@caramba2654 Just saying that just put

in the title if you need to put spoilers. :)

Yeah, but people WILL forget (or they won't know) to put the

in the title. I know for a fact that not everyone reads the important pinned topics or even the rules, and it's bound to have a topic with a spoiler without the

tag.

I would do it, but who guarantees that others will too? I think there's where the problem lies at. :/

I dunno, I guess a pretty harsh, but efficient, solution would be having popups asking you to make sure you put the

before your post title if it has spoilers every time you want to create a new topic. Sure that's annoying, but it's one of the possible solutions...
