RainboomCrash 173 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 Blueblood and Shining Armour are both princes, yet neither of them are Alicorns. Why is this? Aren't all members of royalty supposed to be alicorns?
GaleFenrir 281 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 Well, Shining Armor only married into princehood, so that wouldn't automatically elevate him to a higher state of existence. As for Blueblood... well, what is the deal with Blueblood, anyway? Seriously, so little is known about him, or how he fits in with the rest of the royal family. So... *shrugs*

I mean, I guess they could have earned it from lowering and raising the sun/moon...but I was always under the impression that they inherited it. The Elusive Cinder 1,328 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 what is the deal with Blueblood, anyway? Seriously, so little is known about him, or how he fits in with the rest of the royal family. Blueblood was actually supposed to be a duke initially - he was made a Prince because (Hasbro / The producers / someone else) didn't think that kids could understand the concept of a 'middle management' authority figure. Heres what Lauren Faust said in Deviant Art: He's the great great great great great great great great great great great (and probably even more greats) nephew on Celestia's and Luna's mother's side, about 52 times removed, roughly speaking. I would have preferred to call him a Duke, but someone in the approval process thought kids wouldn't know what a Duke is. Luna and Celestia have no siblings and no children. Also that's a fan name, he has no official name on the show. 7 Never quite forgotten.

The Elusive Cinder 1,328 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 I imagine it's exactly that: Shining is royalty by marriage - the Alicorns seem to actually embody abstract concepts (Time, Love, Friendship). The options as I see them are being born one (Most likely Celestia and Luna) or ascending to one by becoming an actual embodiment of one of the Elements of Harmony (Cadence was a Pegasus who ascended on becoming a symbol of love, Twilight became the symbol of Magic/Friendship) Never quite forgotten. Still, I'd like to see a male alicorn in the future (probably Shining Armour).
The Elusive Cinder 1,328 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 Element of justice / honor / protection or something like that? The only reason I cant see something like that happening is that he isn't considered an important enough character to merit the multi-part episode it would need to set it up well enough. Never quite forgotten.

Probably the Element of Loyalty. Although he's not a major character, he is fairly important in Equestria - as he was captain of the guard in Canterlot. He also rules the Crystal Empire with Cadence. Digit 321 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 (edited) Who says we won't see a male alicorn at some point. That amulet trixy had, had to have come from some were and if an alicorn does embody a form of being, an evil one is sure to exists. The Elusive Cinder 1,328 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 if an alicorn does embody a form of being, an evil one is sure to exists. Indeed: if we see King Sombra again, I think that he will have Wings. That said, Male / Female and Good / Evil aren't in the slightest bit related - Sombra could easily have been Queen Sombra and the same would apply. Never quite forgotten. I wasn't saying it had to be male I mean the show has had an equal number of male bad guys to female so far so yeah. Just saying plenty of opportunity to make a male alicorn

GaleFenrir 281 May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 Probably the Element of Loyalty. but... Dashie. It wouldn't be cool of SA to steal her thing, dawg.

Yeah it would be a bit of a cliche if they did that, but it seems the show has a running idea of men in power are generally evil unless backed by a strong female leader. I.e shining armor it's just an observation and opinion on my part.

But yeah I get what you mean about the others; Spike is backed by Twilight, Discord is effectively controlled by the Mane 6...the next strongest male character I can think of is Big Mac :S Because there are no real princes by FiM standards. Kay Dreamer 884 May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 It always seemed to me that Equestria is a subtle matriarchy, juxtaposing our world and it's history. Mares are slightly more likely to find themselves in positions of power than stallions are, and may still be considered by Equestrian society to be somewhat better suited for the role. Part of that probably comes from the fact that the two demigod leaders of the country are both female, but it could have been common even before then. (The only male figure from Hearths Warming Eve was the Unicorn King, who we didn't even see.) That could be the biggest reason why we haven't seen male Alicorns yet. It doesn't mean we'll never see one though. I think of Equestria as sitting, historically and technologically, somewhere between the 1920's and 1960's. Socially, they're almost at where we are. The mare/stallion imbalance is starting to work itself out. (I'd like to see a male Alicorn, it could be cool.) Also, please remember - this is a show for little girls. Girls have precious few female figures of authority to look to in media and in society. Again, it's an imbalance which is slowly starting to work itself out... But until then, a show such as My Little Pony which demonstrates that females are suited for leadership and can run a country is very important. Metemponychosis 1,262 May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 My guess is that Blueblood got adopted or something of the sort. Because I can't fathom him doing anything that would make him deserving of the title, like Twilight and Cadance. Also, Shining Armor got "prince'd" because he married a princess. To be honest, today, more than ever, I wouldn't be calling Blueblood a prince. I'd make some other title for him. I also think that ponies becoming alicorns, and thus princesses or princes should be a very rare occurrence. I don't want them to put a prince just so there is a male alicorn or make them intrinsically different. https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. And I'm just getting started.
MLPFanatic34 3,241 May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 It is interesting that there are no male alicorns on the show and only females. I guess because the princesses represent things like love, friendship, and whatever Luna and Celestia represent, also just thought I'd ask alicorns are born right? or are they created like in the case of Cadance and Twilight?
