movies/tv Spike Reviews: Godzilla

Mr. Critical

Recommended Posts

Hey internet. Spike here. So, originally Fluttershy was supposed to write the review for this one, but when Mr. Critical mentioned the human equivalent of dragons, we lost her. But, Critical did give me her ticket to the movies and said I can come if I write the review in her place. I immediately said yes. I mean, a chance to see what a human world version of a dragon looks like, how could I say no. And when I finally saw this Godzilla on the screen, I, and along with my friends, was blown away at the sight of it. However, what I didn't like was the fact that this giant reptilian monster was barely in the movie. Critical was telling us that the older movies were about a giant dragon fighting monsters and we should be excited to see it. But, I was kinda disappointed.

Okay, Critical tells me I have to tell you guys more about the movie so here it goes. Though the movie doesn't follow a giant fire breathing lizard, much to my disappointment, it focuses on one of the human soldier. A character named Something Brodey. And I'm gonna say it, he was pretty boring to watch. His acting was boring and wooden, he had nothing to say that was cool or interesting, and I didn't like him that much when the movie was focused on the military guy. The guy who played Brodey's father was much better and audience liked him much better than the son. But, he was barely in it after the trailers advertised him in the movie so much. But, he was generally useless other than something to get the story going and had little to no interesting things about him. Or any other bits that had human soldiers in it. Which, when I think about it was most of the movie. So, the military want to blow up Godzilla and the other monsters with a device that runs on the stuff they feed on. How they came to that conclusion Twilight, Critical, and I cannot really figure it out. But, in the end, they let Godzilla do what everyone in the entire theater wanted to see. Godzilla kicking flank and taking names. Even though it was about five minutes.

I don't really know what else to say about this one. With boring characters, the monster we all wanted to see barely being in the movie in favor of a boring lead cast member who's father was played by a much better actor, or so Critical says, I dont really know what I can say about this. But I will tell you guys this though. When we were watching the film and Godzilla let out that really amazing roar, we were all pretty terrified by it. We've never really seen a dragon so intimidating. Looking over to Rarity, I saw her shaking in fear as well. Thus, thanks to the film, I got t put my arm around Rarity. So, by that, Godzilla gets a major bonus in my eyes. I award Godzilla the award for Dragon Representation of Equestria. Which it will hold until the sequel is made.

That awkward moment when I had just been on your other thread asking who should review this & said Spike should have...

I can agree that, for the most part, it was kind of lackluster to not see the monster as the highlight. However this is a trend all Godzilla movies have, no matter where they are from, so I'd rather them at least keep continuity & keep the high powered Godzilla fight for last while making sure the rest of it didn't feel drawn out pointlessly (as most of the Japanese versions do).

Oh and apparently Godzilla approves of Sparity... Who knew?  :mustache:

@@KokuraiNoSenshi,

That is true and I have learned my lesson after watching the older films. But I just wish the guy we got stuck with had more personality than a plank of wood. Actually I can't say that because this guy is a superior actor than him

Can't argue that lol, like I said I think this version is about as good as American Godzilla could hope for, but it isn't what I would consider the best of the best. Tokyo S.O.S, Final Wars, Godzilla 2000... There are plenty of better ones out there, but for what this one is it is really well made & competent & compared to that... Thing they made in the 90's it is a God(zilla)-send
