"Feminist Cartoons..." I can't begin to tell you how wrong what you said is...

No, please, begin.

Also, for the sake of staying on topic, here's Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, because David Goyer is a tosser and she subverts a ton of tropes always placed on female superheroes. A feminist icon in her own right.

There I go again, using the f word.

Please don't mix your feminist views with a cartoon you like because you're just being an Otaku-level crazy person that associates political ideas and rights with a commercialized form of entertainment. If anything you should respect yourself and distinguish yourself from commercialized propaganda of rights... That's the wrong way to support something such as feminism.

A feminist icon in her own right.
I believe the OP wanted to avoid just that when he/she named the topic "Strong Non Stereotypical Female Characters". Instead you see "feminists"... i am sorry but that's not how it works... Sylvannas Windrunner isn't a feminist for snatching control of the undead from under the phallic pig Arthas and his stereotypical man-dominant cult of the dammed... She's just a woman that wants revenge on that bastard for turning her into a friggin zombie and depriving her from her living beauty and the dignity of death! Those women aren't defending their rights as women requesting equality with men... They are claiming the chance to fulfill their purpose in the jungle of life and the "Survival of the fittest". So please... next time you mention a "Strong Non Stereotypical Female Character" don't judge how strong she is on the basis of challenging the male stereotypes... cause that's not how it works.

I meant to say they represent empowering feminist ideals (which is totally true, since there are many instances of the characters actively having to circumvent the assumptions placed on them based on their gender), not that any of the characters are actually affiliated with feminist movements, so apologies on my part for any misinterpretation.

Then again, you were a bit austere in calling me out. Not sure why the use of the "f-word" has to be followed with some long drawn out deconstruction.

@@CITRUS KING46, Because not everything is granted... not everything is oh so clear... in any case destroying stereotypes doesn't "bracket" you in the team of ideas that define a feminist. You can claim there are feminist elements in a cartoon or egalitarian elements or political and religious but you can't actually tell me Avatar is a feminist cartoon. When people see female characters do more than act like minions they say they are "feminist" and i find this a bit ironic. I also find it a bit ironic that "feminist" characters are predominatly... female... i didn't see someone say that oh i don't know... Professor X was a feminist idol/symbol! I have as much right to say that any character is a feminist as you do... however that doesn't make it true not even remotely. Just because someone might share the half the ideals that feminism might agree into doesn't mean it sponsors or brackets ones self in that category of ideas. You are supporting your own stereotype of categorizing cartoons within a new stereotype to destroy the old one. I think we've replaced one problem with the other.

Back on the topic Tokura Misaki from Cardfight Vanguard. Even though she played her first cardgame against the protagonist she won... although it was still early in the anime. She fought Kai Toshiki one of the strongest fighters next to the protagonist on equal terms and even managed to un-reverse his friend Miwa when the Void took hold of him.

She bears right now a very strong clan called Genesis and i've really loved her cards and all their effects.

I think the following female tv characters are consistently well-rounded, dynamic, and empowered characters:

Regina Mills, Emma Swan, and Mary Margaret Blanchard from Once Upon a Time.

Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation.

Pretty much any of the women from Orange is the New Black. **excellent, feminist-friendly show **

Peggy Olsen from Mad Men.

Tara Thornton and Pam De Beaufort from True Blood.

Rachel Berry and Santana Lopez from Glee.

Mindy Lahiri from The Mindy Project.

Bette Porter and Jenny Schecter from The L Word.

Spencer Hastings from Pretty Little Liars.

As far as cartoons go, I agree that The Powerpuff Girls and MLP have strong female characters who show that you can be feminine while still kicking ass and not being a doormat! Sailor Moon is excellent too!

There's probably more that I know of but I'm having trouble thinking of them right now, haha.

My vote goes to Karst from Golden Sun

Even though she fits the typical "little girl with a big guy" role, she's the finest warrior Prox has to offer, and her attacks are far more devastating than Agatio's.

Plus, her battle music is  :D

The first one I thought of is the girl you play as on Portal. She's not made to look sexy or anything but just be a normal girl. She's smart enough to get out of complicated puzzles and be a main character in a puzzle game, which doesn't happen a lot. Maybe not "strong" but she breaks stereotypes of almost every video game girl ever.

There are plenty of female characters who are physically strong, though. A LOT. xD
