Bat or Dragon Pony Hybrids...?

So I have a fascination with bat ponies and dragons in general, so I was thinking of making an OC of one or the other (or both!) but am hesitant as... well, I'm afraid my OC's might be frowned upon. :/

 

I would make sure to make them GOOD OC's as much as possible (check my sig for my previous OC's if you need proof ;P)... so do you think it would be OK if I did this, or is it generally frowned upon? (especially the dragon/pony hybrid? Because that isn't canon, while I know bat ponies are of course).

I don't think a dragon/pony or bat pony dragon/bat/pony hybrid is frowned upon in concept, but you must have it make sense. If you do backstories and the whole shebang, then make sure it's believable.

 

Don't make it too gaudy. The fact that it's a dragon/pony/bat hybrid make it unique enough, it doesn't have to be fifteen different colors with a fiery mane as well.

I agree with the person(s) above.

I mean, bat ponies 'are' a legitimate race in Equestria, though they seem to be a dramatic minority. But, they're still pretty much canon, though I don't think dragon-ponies are (I 'personally' would frown a bit on them for related reasons, and 'cuz genetics, but if they made sense it be a very small negative mark, and many other people probably wouldn't hold it against you any). Anyways, characters with a purpose or realistic setup are ideal. To make a 'dark' character purposely dark while also choosing a 'darker' race such as a bat/dragon pony smacks a little of trying too hard to be cool. Well, in my opinion at least. I'd sooner love an energetic, bright, bubbly bat pony than a depressed/emo/gothic one with red and black coloration. 

Also please don't use red and black together in any large amount. 

 

Anyways.

If you wanna use a race other than the typical three, you're at full liberty to do so.   There's a good bit of potential for good OC setups.

 

 

And, personally I'm quite fond of bat ponies.♥ I currently have a bat pony OC, though her purpose lies in a fanfic I'm semi-writing heavily involving the bat pony race. She's still heavily outnumbered by more traditional-raced characters though, of course.

What the fine people above me said: Steer clear of special Snowflake territory and you should be fine.

If you want to make it a dragon,I'd advise against making it a literal hybrid. Just call it a kirin and have it come from somewhere far in the east.

Can we not have any more dragon hybrids? Seriously, it's pretty much a cliche now to mix dragon with stuff...it's like in anything with fantasy or magic themes.

Not yet, sorry. 

As a reader, I dislike updates that takes weeks to a month or two to come.

As a writer, sometimes a new chapter will take me as long because reasons.

So, I'm trying to at least get some 10-20 chapters into it before posting, then keeping chapters coming out pretty quickly after I get there.

Well........there are Bat-Pony hybrids, such as Luna's guards who appeared in Nightmare Night.  However, it would be cool to see more of that hybrid.  Dragon-Pony hybrids on the other hand, i wouldn't hold my breath on that b/c it wouldn't make sense.
