Character Deletion?

If you created some characters but do not wish to use them anymore, then does that mean that you should get an admin/mod to delete the character topic (if that's even possible?) or just mothball them and ignore the post? I just wished to know this because it varies from site to site ^^' Sorry if I'm being a derpy hassle and this has the wrong tag or something I don't really know what counts as which tag.
