So why is every Friendship is Magic fan so sure this is going to be bad all of a sudden?

I think it's more that people don't like the idea rather than the episode itself. At least that's the way I feel.

Here's my take:
I wasn't too happy when they first teased it back in Comic Con or w/e. I've never cared for BG ponies, and an episode dedicaded entirely to them left me a little sour(especially being used for a huge hallmark like the 100th episode), and it just screams fan-pandering of the worst kind to me. But I kept myself cautiously optimistic, as I like to keep an open mind.

However with each announcement, teaser, and trailer revealed, I begin to dread it more and more, right to the point where I figured I should just skip it.

If I watch it, I can't help but feel I won't like it at all with my current mindset. Is it unfair? Yes. Is it stupid of me? Probably. But I'd rather just skip an episode I really have no desire to see rather and ignore it entirely than watch it, knowing I won't like it, and relentlessly harp on it.

If other people like it, that's good for them. Guess I'll just wait an extra week when all of this boils over

I recently watched Jerry Peets "Story is king" video and he said something very interesting.

"There is no bad idea, just bad executions." And he has a point. A show about 6 ponies, learning about friendship sounds like a stupid idea on paper. But the creators used this idea so well, that they actually made an excellent show out of it.

Some Bronies judge too fast again, without even seeing the end result. I saw kind of the same thing with Pinkie Pride, where the some people where bashing it, just because it had a celebrity VA in it. It's actually one of my favorite episodes, not just for Weird Al alone.

Let us wait and see.

I agree with Megas. I think the reason why so many are against this episode is mainly because the idea of doing an episode dedicated to background ponies on the 100th episode of MLP is to many the staff doing a whole fan service episode to the show's periphery demographic. Many assume is going to be terrible for the amount of fans that won't be satisfied at how their favorite background ponies are portrayed or how a fan service episode would turn out on FIM.

As Hypno said, we just need to wait and see and judge how the actual episode will turn out rather than expect it to be terrible without it actually airing.

Actually, I think that's kind of what I'm saying. (It can't be the episode itself, obviously, since it hasn't aired yet.) People are letting just the idea psych them out ahead of time. Even if the writers ARE directly trying to have fun with the fans' expectations, that's something that can also be done well in a story. If the show had a history of letting its episode fall apart by focusing too much on fan service, I could at least sympathize, but it really doesn't... with the possible exception of Magic Duel :P

But to your credit, you seem to have a pretty good perspective on what's eating you about it and whether there's anything to be done about it. Here's hoping you're pleasantly surprised. (Unless don't like it of course, in which case nobody is allowed to enjoy it at all.)

Well said. I just hope the backlash camp doesn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy that ends up sticking around regardless of how good the episode actually is.

Seems like we agree. There's not much point in ruining it for yourself ahead of time with pure speculation.

Any spoilers in that video?
I've deliberately withheld myself from seeing the trailers and any discussion topics of it. This is to walk into the episode with an as open mind as possible.

Sounds like a good plan. And yeah, I do have a couple pictures from the preview in there of the characters it's going to involve, as well as a vague description of what purpose they serve (comedy, etc.).
