But it's obvious what was intended: Dash wasn't paying attention and made a bad deal. A hilariously awful deal. Everything from that till the end of the trial is just one huge absurdity, along with the rest of the episode.

And I'd be willing to wager that the ponies involved would greatly influence the perception of this scene. If the roles were reversed and Fluttershy did the same thing to Dash, everybody would recognize that we can't be taking it too seriously. Sa...

Same thing with AJ, who has a history of not having any particular history. The worst possible combination I can think of is Rarity selling Spike into servitude, but that's because I'm biased. Besides, there's the still the fact that the perpetrator almost immediately recognizes that they are made of stupid.
