To me? no not really. You don't need to meet up at some convention to experience fandom. The fact that this forum exists for all of us to discuss MLP shows how much people love it. Conventions simply aren't my thing: I don't like the idea of stuffing a lot of people into a room then calling it a fun time.

They are sort of what you make of it....panals and such are only one part. I went to a anime convention and spent my entire time in the dealers room and talking to artists.......there was also a corner for people to share pokemon with......good times. Lots of swag.
