I have a few questions. These are honest questions; I am not trying to stir controversy. I'd appreciate your input. What is the problem with Derpy? Why is she so hated by some people? To me, she's a cute bubble-head popularised by Crissy Snow from the old Three's Company show. Would Luna really be so loved if more were known about her? Is she better kept as a background character? Why is Cadance princess of the Crystal pony kingdom? Wouldn't a crystal pony be a better candidate? Why are only alicorns princesses? Is there racism in Equestria? If Celestia is a princess, doesn't this mean there should be a King or Queen around? How exactly does Rarity represent the element of Generosity? Vanity I can see, but Generocity? Any generocity she has displayed has been couched in vanity. Is Spike Twilight's slave? What exactly is his relationship with her? Are only Celestia and Luna long-lived? Cadance seemed to be quite young as Twilight's foal-sitter. Follow up on last question: If Cadance was indeed so young and was already a princess, what could she have done to earn the position at that age, considering all the hoops Twilight had to jump through? (Pun intended.) Or was she simply born a princess? And then what were her parents? I know a lot of these questions seem noobish. They've just been bothing me.

Based on what? The ratings are great. There is no reason to think that S4 will start out any less. People aren't going to tune out just because Twilight gained some wings. Remember, this is a show aimed at little girls, and what is the dream of every single little girl on the planet? To become a princess, which is exactly what happened to Twilight. This was simply caterting to wish fulfilment, planned from Day One, and was a very wise move. They aren't going to break up the Mane 6. In fact, look for continued evolution. More character development, more toys to sell. Win win. Static is boring. I look forward to I like the idea of growth and that, while remaining who they are and who we all love, are becoming more. I would love to see a dictator-esq Fluttershy! Never happed outside of fandom, but it would be interesting to see that image. Or maybe it actually could be an episode. "Mirror Mirror, MLP-style. Twilight messes up a spell and turns Equestria into the opposite of what it is. Fluttershy is an evil overlord, Applejack is either a lazy welfare case or a hard-nosed capitalist, Rarity is actually generous instead of vain! (I bag on Rarity a lot, I know.) They did kind of do that in the Discord episode, but I think it bears another, deeper take. Pearls of Wisdom - Most people want to serve God, but only as advisers

Wrong. The best use of songs, and this is what Walt Disney himself believed (since you mentioned Disney) is that you use songs to move the plot along rather than stall the plot for a song. (Which is why the Soap Song (or whatever it was called) was cut out from Snow White. He felt it stopped the story. I think the songs did a good job in MMC. It moved the plot or updated the character. Both legitimate reasons for a song. Pearls of Wisdom - Better to be so Heavenly-minded that you're no earthly good than to be so earthly-minded that you're no Heavenly good.

That's a good idea. If they can change cutie marks, why not races? Pearls of Wisdom - Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

I don't know if this is the plan, but let's assume that it is for the moment. Assume that MLP will be making more physical changes to the Main 6 (for reasons of toy selling). The first change was, of course, Twilight to Alicorn Twilight. What changes do you think could be made to the Main 6 for toy purposes? (We're not debating whether changes are good or bad. I'm with you, Jamiequadbike. I'm glad I have some of my favourite episodes on the DVR so I can go back and rewatch and rewatch. I'm not a fan of these abbreviated seasons that have gripped the television industry these last few years. 26 episodes should be the minimum. Seriously? So you never saw Friendship is Magic part two? Applejack is a drama queen who doesn't think to just say "Hey, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy will catch you", Rarity is more the element of Vanity rather than generosity, no one thinks to just fly across the river, and Pinkie Pie will laugh herself into being eaten. Talk about cramming too much stuff into a single episode, how about they way they shoehorned six differnet elements into a single episode? Not to mention how utterly stupid they made Nightmare Moon who was so so so easily defeated. Could they have expanded MMC? Probably, but at high risk of padding. Could you really have squeezed 22 more minutes out of that? More if you really wanted to concentrate on just the Cutie Mark switching? Think Crystal Empire and how that was padded out. Yeah, the episode was a bit fast paced. Maybe seven or ten more minutes would have helped. But commercial limitations kept it at 22 minutes. Got to work with what you have. After all that above, I am not saying you are wrong. The episode didn't work for you. That's the way it goes. Can't please \ everyone. I, for one, really liked it. A nice cap on a too-short of a season. Now, if you want to talk about episodes I hate, let's chat about MMMMystery on the Pony Express... Maybe I just can't handle Pinkie Pie in large doses. Pearls of Wisdom - I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them.

As long as the ratings are high and the show keeps making money, they'll continue to make new Pony. Nice and simple. Hasbro or whoever it is who makes these decisions is only concerned with that, just like every single other network executive. As far as I know, MLP is a ratings giant. It isn't going anywhere. Ooh, that's a good idea. And completely believable. Twilight does tend to be a bit by-the-book, so it makes sense she would think that a "proper" princess should be more aloof, thus inadvertently abandoning the friendship aspect that gave her the power in the first place. To be honest, I can't imagine anyone associated with the production tweeting, "Yeah, S4 is really going to be terrible. I wouldn't waste my time with it." For me, I loved S3 and can't wait for S4. And considering what Faust said about how the original plan was for continued development of all the characters, now I really can't wait! For those bronies who "left fandom" because they are upset over <insert reason here>, they'll be back. Of course they will. Pearls of Wisdom - If 90% of all the scientists who ever lived are alive today, doesn't that mean that 90% of the mad scientists are alive as well?

Woah pony. In fact, it was Fluttershy who didn't fall for Discord's tricks. Discord had to deliberately zap her. Twilight actualy got frustrated and gave up on her friends. It was Celestria who reminded Twilight of her friendships. If it wasn't for that, Twilight would have remained grey. Still, Celestria summed it up best. Each of the Mane 6 exemplified an element, but Twilight had them all. Pearls of Wisdom - I am a bomb technician. If you see me running, try to catch up!

Is there any kind of logic to how Hub shows episodes? I've been waiting for Luna Eclipsed to come around so I can record it on my DVR, but they seem to be dancing around the episode, showing a whole bunch of others, often ten or twenty times. I always just figured that alicorns embody all three types of ponies: Unicorn, Earth, and Pegasus. And, in their world, to be a leader (princess), you have to have the inner understanding of all three which can only come from being all three. Hence: Alicorn. I'm stepping away from the whole immortal debate. All we have ever heard are that Celestria and Luna are long-lived. Nothing else, and no one else. But she did need to become an alicorn to sell a new toy, which is what -- ultimately -- the episode was for. I'm not dissing the episode. I liked it. I liked the songs, I liked the story. I'm just recognising a fact: MLP needs to sell toys. They needed a new toy. They needed to incorporate the new toy into the storyline. Bingo: Twilight is an alicorn. I'm comfortable with that. I could live with some sort of evolution among the entire Mane 6, maybe as part of a "finale season", assuming they even know when that comes about. To be honest, I don't even know if this type of programme will ever get that kind of notification. Would be nice, though.
