  1. When are ponies named by their parents? At birth? A few months when their personalities start to develop? Do they go before the Chief Elder and have the child named by him? (Dinosaurs reference. Funny show. Look it up.) I mean, it can't possibly be at birth. What would possess a parent to name their child "Snails"? And what would happen if Apple Jack actually preferred oranges? Or Rainbow Dash couldn't fly? What is the consensus on naming? Pearls of Wisdom - Commandment VII: You shall not commit adultery.
  2. Everything about Equestria Girls was shoved down our throats. There's not a hint of subtlety in that entire movie. So I don't think Flash/Twilight stood out as more criminal than any other plotline they threw out there. Pearls of Wisdom - I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them.
  3. There's a reason for that. I know you're not suggesting that a conspiracy by The Writer's Union and Greeting Card Symposium to condition girls for romance. But it is true that almost all young girl stories have romance because they respond to that. Well, actually it kind of is. That's how we get little human beings. :yay: Oh probably. But like I said, I wouldn't mind a little romance thrown in there. Not the "they start dating and we have to endure an entire relationship" plot.. If I wanted that angst, I'd go watch The Big Bang Theory. But maybe a little acknowledgement that something is there. Maybe Cheerilee and Big Macintosh are enough in the background to get away with it. I mean, goodness knows we're not going to get anything out of Rarity and Spike. Could Spike have been more caviler about Rarity's crush on that pony or what?
  4. I've found season 3 to be exactly the same as the other seasons in terms of quality. Some episodes are fantastic and can be watched over and over again. Others are good, but only bear viewing occasionally. And some episodes are so terrible they never should have been made. All in all, a fun series with hits as well as misses. Pearls of Wisdom - "Getting used to change is never easy. But living a stagnant life is even worse." - The Doctor (Doctor Who: The Perfection Society)
  5. Okay, probably reading way more into this than intended.... But does Cheerilee still have a thing for Big Macintosh from Hearts and Hooves Day last year? She certainly swooned big time when she (thought she) heard him singing that bass line. And honestly, would a little character development along those lines be such a bad thing? We've had months now to digest Twilight and Flash. Yes, they said they wouldn't follow up with it any more. But with (ugh!) Equestria Girls 2 coming out, how can they not? Unless they just don't have the character there any more. (And didn't Flash have a cameo this season?) Would it really be so bad if Twilight and Flash started to have a thing? A little romance is the subject of many a young girl's stories. Or is that too much? Is Twilight off limits for that? Should Macintosh and Cheerilee get together? I think it'd be cute, actually. Pearls of Wisdom - Enough chit chat, time is candy! - Pinkie Pie ("Luna Eclipsed" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
  6. Maybe next time someone from the show has a Twitter audience or something, some can just drop the question: "Where's Derpy been?" Just so they know we're thinking about her. Pearls of Wisdom - "I could make love for eight hours at a time. What I didn't mention was that it included four hours of begging, dinner, and a movie." - Sting
  7. Try as I might I haven't seen Derpy this season. Am I missing her? Or is she AWOL? Pearls of Wisdom - Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.
  8. I hope this isn't true. It would make the wild animals pretty unintelligent. And how did they survive before ponykind came along? I always assumed that they made nests for the birds in Winter Wrap Up as a kind gesture rather than out of necessity. We've seen beavers build their own dams. Though you do make a point that some things that happen naturally in our world are caused by external influence in Equestria. The rising of the sun and the moon are perfect examples. Pearls of Wisdom - Better to be so Heavenly-minded that you're no earthly good than to be so earthly-minded that you're no Heavenly good.
  9. Sorry to bump a necro thread, but this question actually started bothering me a couple days ago, so I wanted to see what others thought. A number of people think Fluttershy would be the vet, but in the episode Secret of My Excess, the town doctor recommends to Twilight that she takes Spike to a vet, and it wasn't Fluttershy. My opinion is that Fluttershy is employed as Ponyville's Animal Control. She deals with all the lost/abandoned/wild animals and, as part of it, runs a shelter/adoption agency. Hence why she has such an eclectic choice of adoptable pets for Rainbow Dash. Pearls of Wisdom - "When a man steals your wife, there is no better revenge than to let him keep her." - Sacha Guitry
  10. So now that some time has passed, what is the current thoughts on where EQG took place? Earth or some other universe? I don't think it can be Earth. Jaundice apparently doesn't exist. (Fluttershy's yellow skin) Unusual names. Pinkie Pie's red skin isn't considered embarrassment and no one thinks Twilight isn't suffering severe sunburn. Those are just a couple. Also, and unrelated, if Twilight, Rainbow, and Fluttershy all got wings after their (Sailor Moon-esq) transformations, why didn't Rarity and Twilight get unicorn horns? Pearls of Wisdom - Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.
  11. This thread makes me glad we fans don't control what is on the show. Pearls of Wisdom - When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me".
  12. If I ever start saying "Schoopy Doo", I'll lock myself in the moon for a thousand years! Pearls of Wisdom - Isn't it a shame ignorance isn't painful?
  13. So much wisdom in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. What pearls have you made your own? Mine are: "Come on, come on! Time is Candy!" Pinky Pie (Luna Eclipsed) "I want to be brave, at home, locked in my closet, with my teddy bear!" - Fluttershy (Magic Duel) Pearls of Wisdom - No single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood.
  14. I really don't see the problem with Twilight having a boyfriend. Consider: The show is aimed at girls young girls, but certainly not "Barney"-age girls. So they either have or are about to have their first case of puppy love. So why not show a pony in the beginning stages of a relationship. That hesitant, not-to-sure period just like we saw in Equestria Girls. Certainly I can't believe they want to hold up Spike's pining over Rarity as the standard of romance, do they? (Don't get me wrong. That is so adorably cute!) Pearls of Wisdom - Some people dream of success, while other people live to crush those dreams.
  15. Once again Hub makes a strange programming decision. November is sweeps month and they only have Pony for one Saturday. (The fifth Saturday doesn't count for sweeps.) Considering the ratings smash MLP is, you'd think they would run it all month. They did this at the end of last season, too. They lost a sweeps week by ending the season a week early. I have to admit, I don't know what is going through their minds. Pearls of Wisdom - Commandment VIII: You shall not steal.
  16. Applejack has princess potential. Good head on her shoulders, even tempered, leadership qualities. Fluttershy could be one if she wasn't so timid. Rainbow Dash is a capable leader, but has issues with pride and patience. Neither Rarity nor Pinkie Pie have shown princess-level qualities. They have some good aspects about them, but fall far short of princess-level. You bring up some interesting ideas. Perhaps each just needs to conquor some great obstical. You pointed that out best with Fluttershy. Maybe: Rainbow Dash should force herself to accept something personally humiliating for the good of others. Fluttershy should face down her biggest, insurmountable fear. Pinkie Pie should...I don't know. Pinkie Pie is too chaotic to the point of almost being irredeemable. Rarity should give up her heart's desire. I don't know what you have against Applejack. An "honest" salespony??? Perhaps as a series finale? Pearls of Wisdom - A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
  17. Lauren Faust once said that she had wanted the entire Mane Six to become princesses. Consider for a moment exactly how much Twilight had to go through to become one. She had to redeem Nightmare Moon, save the Crystal Empire, capture Discord, and invent new magic! Gee, Celestia, anything else? Do your laundry? (Explain to me again what Cadance had to do to become one? She was born one? Well, lucky her.) What do you think the others should be required to do to earn Alicorn status? Pearls of Wisdom - "I could make love for eight hours at a time. What I didn't mention was that it included four hours of begging, dinner, and a movie." - Sting
  18. Didn't they mention that they were going to do an episode with a disabled pony? Could it be (!) that Scootaloo is the diabled pony and finds out that she never will be able to fly? I think this would be out of character. Luna showed no ill will during Twilight's coranation. It would also seem a bit odd that they would instill such lingering animosity in a show aimed at children. I'm in the "Vision of History" camp where we get to see how Luna became Nightmare Moon. They could just make it easy and use Lullaby For A Princess. Still, I think more Evil Luna represents a lack of imagination, though I acknowledge the temptation of showing how Nightmare Moon came to be. On the other hand, how many times are we going to bash Luna over the head with it? Talk about carrying a grudge. Now Celestia falling into temptation and having an evil episode, that would be fun, but will probably never ever ever happen. Pearls of Wisdom - "Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first." - Ronald Reagan
  19. Hmmm...unpopular opinions.... Rarity represents the element of Vanity rather than Generosity I don't like Doctor Whooves. I think the show has turned into Twilight And Friends Although I understand the reason why they are called "princesses" and not "queens", I still think they should be called "queens" or some rank higher than "princess". I don't think Rarity's cutie mark is appropriate, given her real talent is fashion rather than gem finding. I'd like to see more of Spike + Rarity I don't really like Zicora Friendship is Magic, part two is probably the worst episode of the series. The less Pinky Pie, the better I bet that last one really riled some ponies. Pearls of Wisdom - "It's not enough to be sorry when you've done something wrong. You must correct what you did." - Father Mouse ('Twas the Night Before Christmas)
  20. I thought about this movie last night. I have two different thoughts about it, one as someone who enjoys MLP, and then a second thought as someone who would approach this movie from a neutral point of view. So here are my Three-Line reviews: A word on the scale. I have always used a out-of-ten score for movies. (http://www.dwad.net/movies.html) 5/10 is considered a Must See. Most movies score 3/10. No one has ever scored 10/10 or 0/10. REVIEW AS A FAN: Crossing over into the human world is an idea which might have gone badly, but it was well handled. It was fun to see the characters in unique situations, and the movie did have some elements to it which are a part of the show, but it also had a sledgehammer feel to it at times. All in all, enjoyable sort of but not worth the price of admission. 3/10 NEUTRAL REVIEW: A cheap attempt made on the cheap to grab cinema dollars that is nowhere near worth what you'll pay for it. Forgettable songs, zero character depth, and art that is one step above Pokemon, you'll wonder why My Little Pony is so popular if this is your only exposure. Flat story, flat characters, and flat humor all lead to a flat experience. 2/10 Pearls of Wisdom - The riches God gave us are not for us, but for us to distribute to others.
  21. Walked into the movie (okay, YouTube video) with an open mind. I was willing to love it or hate it depending on what I saw. In the end, it was meh. Very meh. Glad I didn't pay for it, but will watch it when it comes to the Hub so my ratings will count. The one thought I had at the end was that they accomplished so very little considering how much time they had. Pearls of Wisdom - Great men don't believe in luck. They believe in Cause and Effect.
  22. Doctor Who was this way for a while. It would be months before we could see the new episode. So what I did was torrent the episode, but then also watch it when it finally came on the television. That way they still got their ratings. Pearls of Wisdom - A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
  23. I don't see why this is a big problem. I didn't say that you should only watch it through legitimate means. Only that you should avail yourself to legitimate means when they become available. This point seems to veer between two ideas. 1) That it isn't available, which has already been covered and addressed above. 2) This I think is the main theme: that some people simply can't afford it. As I said, this wasn't meant to be a moral judgement. After all, if you can't afford to buy it and you have no ability to view it on the television, then certainly there is no possible way for Hasbro to garner any revenue from you. OTOH, this is oft used as an excuse rather than a legitimate reason. As long as it is available free on YouTube, there is no real incentive to find the funds to view it legitimately. If, however, free views were really truly unavilable, how many who "can't afford it" would suddenly be able to? We'll never know as that scenerio would never happen. As I pointed out in other posts, there is nothing stopping you from simply buying the DVD. Sure, you can't watch it because it won't play or the dub doesn't "give the original U.S. version justice". But you did watch it through YouTube or Torrent or whatever. Is there a particular reason why you want to deny Hasbro and the actors and the artists revenue from something you consumed? Pearls of Wisdom - Commandment VI: You shall not murder.
  24. My understanding is that the movie will come out on DVD or other methods of distribution. You can always avail yourself of those. Of course, some regions will be out of luck even there and that downloading will be truly the only method to watch it. But you mentioned a "supportive way". So even if your only choice of viewing is to download it from a torrent, nothing is really stopping you from buying the movie, even if you can't watch it on the DVD. At least you still would have "supported" it. Pony can have Super Bowl numbers that download it on YouTube, but if no one watched it on the telly or bought the DVDs, then the show would still be canceled because those numbers don't turn into show revenue. Hasbro only looks at revenue. That's the bottom line. If you claim to be a fan, support the show. Supporting the show is generating revenue for the show. In our case, it is viewing the movie though a means that Hasbro can count. Whether that be watching it on the telly, box office receipts, buying the DVD, or renting it. Any other method (read: downloading it) doesn't count and means nothing. I'm not trying to be harsh, and like I said before I am not trying to morally judge. I am merely stating a business fact. Pearls of Wisdom - Innocence is a valuable treasure that is too often frivolously spent.
  25. Equestria Daily just posted the results of a poll which asked how people intend to see Equestria Girls. The vast majority (40%) said they planned to see it via some "other online source". Read: Pirate download. I won't go into the legality or morality of such. That is not the point of this thread. What I am going to say is this: My Little Pony lives and dies on the raitings (and thus money) it makes for the studio. If you plan to download the episode, then please please please also watch it when it comes on the Hub network. Don't rob the show of ratings because you alreday saw it. Even if you can't bare to watch it again, set your DVR and then play it in the background. (Ratings count if you watch it within seven days of recording it.) As long as Pony gets ratings, we get more Pony. Nice and simple. Pearls of Wisdom - "You should never take more than you give in the circle of life." - Circle of Life (Theme to "The Lion King")
