  1. "I practically am Pinkie Pie.

But Pinkie Pie claims she is Pinkie Pie."

If you practically are Pinkie PIe, but PINKIE PIE claims she is Pinkie Pie, then Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie.

    I hope I made sense.

...because Pinkie Pie is me? Indeed, that would make a lot of fun. ... I mean sense. Thanks for clearing that up. So this is just a case of multiple body disorder.

    P.S.: I love pineapples.

    I REALLY do.

  2. Believing the stuff others tell us at young age is one of the biggest sources of personality messup. Difficult to fix later. I've come to realize that in retrospect.

Still trying to fix basics in my life, and I have to do it with repeated disappointments from people one would think could and wanted to help. So I basically have to self-motivate and do anything of substantial relevance to my life on my own.

I even stopped trying to not feel bitter about such disappointments, because, hell, I have every reason to. Anger is a source of energy, and I can't affford the luxury of being picky regarding where to get my energy from.

  3. As someone who likes to show direct politeness, I disagree with this.

Words are more powerful than you give credit to. Words have impact. Even something as simple as a genuine "Thank you" to the person serving you coffee can brighten up their day. I know this, because I work in retail. You remember the people who respond positively to your assistance.

It's about what you are saying or doing. It's the fact that you are doing something positive that's important. I can't exactly hand gifts out to every person I serve.

You are missing half of what I wrote and thus the point.

    My wording was quite deliberate.

  4. Closest one to my idea then. But not good enough, haha. Because in entertainment media, there is a profound difference between first and second, between hero and sidekick, primary role and secondary role. Remember, Uhura was a bridge officer, but at the comm. Outrageous and daring enough at the time, but a black captain would have blown people's fuses.

BTW in the recent MLP episode they had a pony in a wheelchair-like contraption, and it even looked kinda steampunky. That was such an awesome moment. I always like it when the show portrays characters and other elements in a style we haven't seen on the show before. (Maud Pie is another good example.)

  5. Hmm... funny how entertainment business keeps beating around the bush there. Who will have the courage to go straight for the metaphorical kill?

I mean, imagine the gameplay opportunities. It doesn't even have to be serious-themed. Imagine an action shooter game where you can use all kinds of addons for your wheelchair, like miniguns or short-distance dimensional jump drive, complete with fiery tracks á la Back to the Future.

And wheelchair racing for fun has been practiced for ages on a small, spontaneous, private scale. Maybe it's time to bring it to the computer screen.

"Special Racer" would be a title as wacky as the game itself would be.

Darn, if I had the means, skills and energy to make a computer game myself, this could be the next Goat Simulator thing.

    I definitely claim royalties! B)

  6. Can't say I've noticed in MLP either, though I'll be sure to pay attention next time I watch a recent episode.

It is something I've noticed in plenty of games though, and it really bugs me to no end when they make the position change according to camera rather than your character. I complained about this in the beta forums for Guild Wars 2 but was ignored. When I have 7.1 surround, and there is an NPC talking to me directly in front of my character, and I turn the camera to watch to conversation from the side, the audio position should still be front and center since that is where my character is facing. I don't get why game developers don't understand that. If you are meant to be that character, there shouldn't be a "cameraman". Blizzard did it correctly in WoW, so I just didn't understand it in something as new, shiny, and awesome that GW2 was turning out to be.

I totally get where you're coming from.

IIRC you can switch between both modes in WoW, and that's the best way to do it. Since the camera view in a game likw WoW serves informational purpose, sound location might be easier with camera-based sound, so it's good that one can choose between 'practical mode' and 'immersive mode'.

  7. I haven't noticed this in MLP, but I've noticed it a lot in video games, where it annoys me to absolutely no end (I turn to the side and suddenly I'm deaf in one ear or something?).

Maybe in games it can be fixed. If you're using headphones, try switching the speaker setting (in-game and/or in the sound driver) between headphone and 2-speaker. Maybe that helps a bit.

AFAIK Source engine games will also activate virtual surround when you set them to headphone mode.

  8. Pinkie Pie is the best avatar for steam. I wonder what people think when I join csgo with a pinkie pie avatar and scream random stuff and sing.

They'll think you're annoying I guess and a votekick will have a very high success rate.

Personally, I'm more focused on being good at the game, because the idea of dishing out killscreens with a heartily smiling pink pony on them is enough to keep me going. ... Gives me the feeling that I can make people abandon some of the seriousness they might associate with a game like that.

  9. I thought her first line was when she demolished the town hall and checked. It's not clear whether it was Derpy saying it, since the lip sync doesn't match fully, but I can understand how that created the idea. Derpy also had a special position above the other ponies of the crowd.

Thanks for pointing that out. Always nice to learn new things about the show.

  10. You raise really good points. Like you say, it's a great possibility the reason Luna was corrupted that people began to forget the value of the night. As for how Celestia had become after ousting Discord is up for grabs, but whichever the case, she seemed genuinely happy to see her sister return and give her the space she needed for fulfillment in the end. That probably came from a growing appreciation for what Luna was doing before Tia had to take her role upon banishing her.

The thing about neglecting the night kinda reflects people's attitude toward the night today in relation to themselves. So many people already behave during the night as if they would during the day, neglecting and even forgetting the value the night plays for them and their health, and how that in turn affects the health of society. It's another way MLP brilliantly reflects actual real life.

Interesting viewpoint, although in the intro they said that ponies slept through the night, indicating that they indeed had a conventional sleep cycle. But I won't over-analyze that canon anyway, since it's not waterproof. After all, Luna does her work in dreams and such, so that would be beneficial.

Because the explanation in the intro was so clearly flawed/lacking, I came up with these thoughts of what could have happened.

  11. Those are interesting thoughts. Regarding him overriding it - he placed the magic, so he can control it. Yeah, he's got the key.

I think it's safe to assume that Sombra likes to strike fear into ponies, thus it was a kind of playful type of trap. Seeming to be kind of an expert in that field, I think he was aware that everyone has great fears, ot at least he assumed that, since no champion of innermost fearlessness had bested him at that point. It would be kind of a natural belief system for someone who dedicated himself fully to the path of fear. Because people do bad things out of fear, he is a character most unaware of how he is actually an unconscious slave of fear instead of a master.

So he is a living example of someone who does not have expertise in overcoming fears. I think it was incomprehensible to him. The playful nature of the trap indicates that he was very sure of himself, so I think he actually believed no one could overcome that trap.

Twilight Sparkle would risk her life for her friends, but Sombra apparently does not have something in himself that is more powerful than the fear of death, and since any situation where he would have to overcome HIS greatest fears would require him to be willing to die, naturally he would assume that people's greatest fears are an absolutely reliable means for a trap.
