Were the Mane 5 bullying Fluttershy?
Scootadress replied to Scootadress's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Twilight and Pinkie learn that their side is correct after learning that the orchard would die eventually if it weren't for the vampire fruit bats, so to truly show how important, perhaps they do, indeed, turn her into a temporary bat. Its not crazy, Celestia has done this on some occasions herself. But this causes a backfire on the plans and Applejack learns the same lesson while helping stop Flutterbat. Twilight and Pinkie Pie learn their side is correct after learning the orchard would die eventually without them and they try to help save the bats, but the others (everyone on AJ's side) start to retaliate and go against through other means. Eventually, this takes a toll of Fluttershy who doesn't want to fight and neither does AJ, but AJ's too stubborn to listen to herself.Of course, then have one of the others (RD and Rarity) try to sabotage what Twilight and Pinkie do by making her accidentally cast a spell she was going to use to use as a way to show they were needed, and instead, they cause Fluttershy to turn into a bat. They learn that they were all wrong by continuing the argument and not seeing the bigger picture, coming to a compromise. Applejack would learn the same lesson that she should have listened, and Fluttershy would also learn to speak out more against something she knows is wrong instead of allowing the fight to drag on. (Or something to the effect) -

It just seems like they placed AJ in that position on force. It would have been entertaining if, lets say, Twilight and Pinkie Pie were on Fluttershy's side and they try to save the bats while, in the process, hurting their friendship with the others causing a turmoil that they resolve in the end via compromise of the reserve. Like, Twilight and Pinkie, while RD and Rarity try to drive the bats away with AJ, attempt something to allow the bats to stay but cause AJ distress in the progress because they had taken the bats over? This causes a strain on their relationship just as the story had with Fluttershy and AJ alone. -

The problem being that they HAD done that. It didn't take them long to build the reserve for the bats. If she HAD listened then the farm wouldn't have to worry as much over the apples that were wasted because they taken that time towards the reserve and learning the language. Instead, AJ pushed her argument, they followed, and they wasted a day that could have saved lots of apples. If they built the reserve, the apples wouldn't have been as badly wasted, but they waited 2 whole days instead, effectively delaying help for the farm. They wasted more crop doing AJ's plan then Fluttershy's. -

She's the Sweetie Belle of the mane 6. Sweetie Belle, while has great ideas at times and tends to be the voice of reason, tends to be pretty ignored. (Cue Flight to Finish and Season 3 episode) When right, she still is ignored. It all makes sense now. That body language. They wouldn't have been able to do much without the Stare being used. Even so, they circled around her and she cowers as they do that. (When they first chant, they were just circling, but they actually show looks of anger while they do. Rarity admitted it herself that she was sorry) It wasn't peer pressure, in Hurricane Shy, that was peer pressure. That just look down right menacing. I wouldn't be able to disagree when 5 ponies circle around me and look at me like that... -

Wait wait wait, didn't that same effect happen with the parasprites? Wasn't there a huge side effect with the parasprites as well, I mean, the intention wasn't to let them eat everything else! She still had tried the same thing earlier on, just different processes but they had unwanted backlash in result. She basically did a season 1 problem with a different spell, but serious side effect. That's why you never trust Twilight with magic. There, never let her solve biological things with magic. Problem solved. lol. The reserve didn't take very long, in fact, they finished the day after Flutterbat happened. If they had done so in the first place, it would have easily taken loads of time off their hooves. -

But when it comes to her own area of expertise they don't allow her to do what she feels she can do? Who's the better judge of what should have been done to the bats, AJ or Fluttershy? They didn't listen to her in Keep Calm and Flutter On, when she should have been listened to. It comes down to just one little fact, they never allowed her to turn back. They made a plan using Fluttershy when she didn't even want that mess but they did so anyway. They didn't even notice that she was acting very odd. (Pinkie saw her, but hadn't done much) Even when they value her, what kind of friendship is it if you don't trust your friend enough to listen to what they said to the fullest extent? -
In the song, I felt like Twilight should have been on Fluttershy's side along with Pinkie Pie. I can see why Rarity and RD wouldn't be on Fluttershy's defense because RD likes cider and Rarity understands the hardships. Twilight would have been on Flutter's side more on a scientific standpoint. Even when they are a migrating species, you can't do certain things or else that totally unbalances the ecosystem. You can't change the diet, if they do, then how bad would the impact be later on for others? Twilight would understand that AJ needs her apples for her own devices, but she would have to side on the side that would better suit the ponies as a whole. AJ might not have realized then, but down the road, there will be a bad outcome, like with anything. That, and it was weird to see AJ being so judging. Anyway, exiting from that, it seemed in the song that they were just picking on her knowing that she wasn't going to really fight back. They even make it a point to circle around her and repeat the same phrases over to make the point clear. They don't even bother to consider the option of a sanctuary, they dismiss it and went on with the brainwashing method. But even then, they coerced her to do something she didn't wish to do, and in the end, she was right like she was right in the other episodes that had this happen. But here's the kicker:Not only did they coerce her to do that, but they endangered her by bringing in a spell that didn't even work when they had done it the last time with the parasprites and that backlashed by being forced into Flutterbat. Hay, AJ contradicted herself by stating Fluttershy's Sanctuary would take too long but it didn't take long obviously since they completed it in the end of the episode. They just seemed to bully her into doing what they needed her to do, much like how they insisted that Rarity needed to fix the dresses that she made for them in Suited for Success, and much like THAT, Rarity had nearly lost her chance at showing off her real clothing and shot her chances at getting better in her line of work. The difference was that when Fluttershy had done the same by ignoring her principles. she turned to a BATPONY. In essence, they had bullied Fluttershy into doing what they wanted to. Anyone notice that?

Applejack wasn't the bright one of the group in this episode. I hate how they created her out to be in this episode. She knew about the moral before, since she happened to learn it in season 1 and retaught it to Rarity, but she..ignored (?) better judgement and chose such a short term 'quick fix' that many people even here state would be better since it is a quick fix. Yes, doing that is an easy fix for the moment. In real life, we use pesticides and recently cut out some types of pesticides. Yes, they were good, in the moment, but soon they went down and attacked the other ecosystems and made it so that other animals could no longer do what they could do because of the poison. Yes, removing the bats would effectively help the problem in the short term, but what if that's their only pitstop? A lot of birds feast on horseshoe crabs because they have little energy to actually get anything else, and they do a pitstop and eat the eggs so that they can fuel up to fly further. Both parties benefit. When you take away something as that, it can damage the ecosystem badly. What they do is actually help her grow more trees, what else might they do that might benefit the environment that AJ's not seeing? Maybe they are decaying the plants and giving nutrients back in to grow more plants in the process. While the problem is bad for AJ's family and the sort, you have to keep in mind, Pinkie did much worse than them and so did the parasprites. All during the growing season as well. With AJ's solution (well, Twilight's because AJ didn't bother to create one. She made accusations but never actually confronted them or made an attempt herself to round the bats if they were that bad.) was changing the diet. That wouldn't be alright, what would they possibly eat? What impacts would that have on the environment? You can't have animals competing when they aren't native. Many endangered animals become endangered because of the invading species and changes in habitat. (San Joaquin Kit Foxes for one, they are a dying off animal because they are limited to one location that's not giving them enough food. That's excluding everything that eats the same food.) While you can't stand there and let them, having their own area like a reserve is much more beneficial to both sides. To have them in their own area would ensure both sides that you can get more fruit the next year but also your not killing the other apples. However, like one said, what would happen afterward when their apples are gone? I can't say. Maybe they can make something large and enclosed?

Diamond Tiara-Apparently Scootaloo is Disabled.
Scootadress replied to Scootadress's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The only thing that worries me is the fact they did add in a few things that were bound to stir commotion: How come she has so much strength, much more than even Rainbow Dash, but she can't lift her body? -She lifts up both Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle without much difficulty. (Nope, don't believe their montage was them doing things) All with a hoof each, no less. -She did this...on a Scooter and standing on the scooter. -She heaved said ponies halfway across Equestria. -When she did, she was FASTER than said train that had a huge head start. Even Rainbow never did that. All on the ground. -She's also shown with supplies EARLIER in the series. She can't lift her body, being disabled, but... She's a muscle head. Strong as, lets say, even any of the Apples. -

Though, Scootaloo's not one to exactly say something that much exaggerated. It was off putting too, that she states that question in the way she had. As pointed out, the writers (Another one stated the same, I just couldn't remember the name) state that she was, but the problem is that they are worried that pointing it bluntly out would draw attention. (Derpy) The people that attacked earlier (against Derpy) could state that:Oh, your showing a pony that's equivalent to that of a wheelchair man in a more offensive way. Look, even her NAME means it!" The problem wouldn't be them focusing to much, its the problem of debunking these myths. Remember, she's the only CMC that really had the least going on. This drew on some people thinking certain things. To debunk is top priority right now, I thinks. (One states that she was getting annoyed by all the Scoota-orphan/abuse fics) -

But they could have done the same thing to Sweetie Belle and would still be effective. Plus, its been shown that...well, most pegasi fly at her age. In fact, even the 'bad fliers' like Flutters, still could, in deed fly, just never fly. Even then, we've seen the early bloomers XD (Season one, tiny tiny fillies flying to Luna, anypony?) Then again, Magic is MUCH more intensive than flying. Twilight and Rarity couldn't use magic at Sweetie's age. But, at the same age, Fluttershy, RD, tons of other ponies, can fly. ^^" -

Scootadress replied to Scootadress's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
But even some ponies give a flying feather about what they'll target. They didn't target Sweetie Belle-who doesn't do magic. They target Scootaloo. Its very.....scary in my opinion. To have that extent...it just....I can't help but view it as something Sociopathic. It was...very..scary to see her go attack something like THAT. I find it unsettling. -
Before, I kind of brushed Diamond Tiara as just "those" bullies.I lumped her into the category of Babs Seed-I felt a little sorry. When I read stories, they typically make Diamond act like she's a Sociopath of some sorts, but after Flight to the Finish, its making me regret that sorry stance. Back stories don't make me feel sorry for her, for one reason: We learn she actually plans what she does to the CMC. It also doesn't help that she manages to CRUSH Scootaloo's spirit like a snap of the fingers over a competition.(So much so she was tossing out her prized scooter, something that she fought Spike for, lost in the forest, etc.) It was just really...creepy? I felt uncomfortable. She didn't care what she had caused-she pretty much wiped out anything that drove Scootaloo forward and gave no care to the fact she did that, even in the end, they didn't have a care. Silver Spoon was just as bad (cough cough) There lacked some sort of payback for something on that level. Now, if you take a look on what a writer of MLP states on Twitter after the episode in response to 3 Scootaloo fans, then you compare them to the episode: "Some people can't walk. Some Pegasi can't fly. It's about accepting one's abilities & doing the most w/ them!"-Amy Keating Now, all the ponies in Ponyville seem to know that she DOES in deed, have a disability, but it wasn't, of course...cared for. The ponies didn't care that she has this problem because it doesn't define her. This is why Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom acted the way they did towards the bullies. It was just...there. Rainbow Dash didn't even care, and she's built just on flying. Now, if you enter the fact this fact is common and not spoken about.. well.. this doesn't give the pony a great view, does it? Its just the fact that she was so able to break a pony down in that way and commits time and energy into finding something to make them all miserable shows that she's a little bit..creepy. It also doesn't help she doesn't seem to know boundaries and will do anything in her power to get what she wants. I find that really scary...

How much does a cutie mark mean?
Scootadress replied to Scootadress's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Sorry, I read this post with a Pinkie Pie voice. I read a fic with Silver Spoon particularly that got me to think this way. If your accustomed to a certain way, maybe your cutie mark would symbolize the wrong idea that you had before. Then there are certain marks you can't obtain til late in life. (Royal Sisters) Or, perhaps, have a skill that they have earned their mark from, but HATE the skill. Seen that done too perfectly. -
I think I just realized how dark it really is if you don't follow what your cutie mark actually means. While, I pointed this out in Magical Mystery Cure, I never realized how much of an effect it generally had on a pony. To sum my thoughts:Basically I felt that MMC was great because it showed how terrible an how shitty their lives ended up actually being and how delicate the balance of having your special talent. When Rainbow Dash had Fluttershy's cutie mark, she didn't view her mark essentially as how Fluttershy views the same marking, which caused her to nearly get eaten by animals. On top, Fluttershy lacked the ability to bring something to the ponies:Cheer, something, she can't do do to her being shy and quiet. She didn't see the view that Pinkie took on it:she's not a clown. She wants others happy. The list goes on and on. Think about it, the balance between how ponies are viewed in society, their roles, etc are based on their cutie mark. That is, if they are switched, they whole town is in shambles depending. (Apple farm goes under, the lack of cheer causes problems with ponies, weather problems, etc.) Yet, that's when this is reversed. What happens when you realize that your cutie mark doesn't mean much in a society? This has been shown in the series with Nightmare Moon and Trixie. That's when I realized how painful it must have been for Luna. Think about it:If Celestia has the power to raise the sun, wouldn't it be just as easy to raise the moon? She's this upset because she can't satisfy her cutie mark. It would ultimately suck if you wound up with a cutie mark that just gets overshadowed and no pony can really marvel at what it means and the worst possible thing is that knowing that other ponies have that same mark or meaning to that mark. If you excluded Celestia's need to sleep, then she would still be able to lift the sun and moon typically. If you look at Trixie, her cutie mark is show magic. If you can't do a show, then how useful is your life? How miserable would you be? I feel that perhaps everything that you see and all the anger is directed from what their cutie mark means and destinies. Now, what does a cutie mark really mean in this world? Can a pony actually be born with the wrong cutie mark-wrong destiny, and to something really bad.

*Spoilers* Scootaloo being an Orphan
Scootadress replied to Mywas's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
She had 3 posters at most in that trash, on top, a scooter. (One would think after you went through so much crap to get that scooter back from the pitfalls of hell, you'd love it more) I was thinking maybe it was a foster home due to the lack of posters or eye catching Rainbow things. Even with those posters, it was about the Equestrian Games, maybe put up recently at that. I can't see it as an actual home. It seems more of a foster home because of the lack of decoration, maybe a few others live there. Wait, why would she have her shrine in her clubhouse? She's no Helga, she can't manage to hide her shrine that long. -

Scootadress replied to Mywas's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Maybe she's fostered? Notice how her room looks. I don't like the design, it doesn't really give off that it belongs to Scootaloo. It just doesn't look like a room Scootaloo would have for some reason. It looks too plain for a pony like her. (I was expecting mass Rainbow Dash posters...or drawings, either way.) On top, maybe more friend pictures. (Like having some pictures of her friends on the wall) Anything, it just was too plain for a filly's room, especially one as bustling as herself. -
Pinkamena Color change
Scootadress replied to Courageous Thunder Dash's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
In season 1, Pinkamina (I spell it like that, don't ask why) was very depressed, very reminiscent to Cutie Mark Chronicle's filly Pinkie Pie. She was drained of everything that she held dear. THAT Pinkamina was very frustrated, annoyed but she wasn't depressed. She was flustered by her cutie mark. However, she wasn't depressed highly so over her cutie mark. She was more pissed. -

True, can't argue that. We've been hearing so much recently. So, I agree with that. Though, they are tightening up gun laws. Though, knives are found everywhere. I'd say a tie, the availability makes the guns seem like the wrong answer. While, on the other hoof, Guns can deal huge amounts of damage in a swift blow. Then again, a knife doesn't need to be reloaded and its silent. If your willing to kill a person quietly, that's the weapon of choice. However, much more mass shootings occur. The guns are more dangerous in that aspect. Its not a fair judgement using knives though...doesn't seem very fair to compare two different things when they are deadly in different scenarios.
-
Well, that depends on the situation. You can still do lots of damage and conceal it faster. It also depends on location. If I recall, during the time of Newton Connecticut shootings, there was a man that managed to kill a bus load of people in China or something. He didn't use a gun for that, he used a knife or something similar. Even if it was smaller, used correctly, it can be deadly. Plus, knives can be used for multiple reasons, so you can be excused quicker. At least, in my opinion.
-
Well, I say knives are worse. While guns take the heat because you can fire and do tons of damage at multiple people without a sweat, knives are everywhere. You can outlaw guns-other than a few purposes, they don't mean much. Knives are everywhere and you can get them anywhere. They are the legal weapons that you don't need to sign for. They do tons of damage and can kill as effectively. That's why I think knives are worse.

Season 4 is too overrated?
Scootadress replied to The Prime Reaper's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
*walks away slowly* I didn't like that movie because I watched the series first, Liked the series, didn't like the movie. (The actors in the movie, the fact that I was waiting for my favorite scene from the series only to have it not in the movie, yep, dislike.) Other than that, I agree. Its not correct to assume that is overrated. Its like saying Hunger Games the movie is accurate to the book without reading the book or even like the series without reading the books. You can't simply see one thing and judge. I think that's the problem here. However, its over hyped. Celestia and Luna scene wasn't all that amazing during their fight. Kind of pissed at that really.
