That cheap "fat joke" at the end pisses me off for a couple of reason. One: It's so 1960s/70s. Two: I've been in her situation before in real life (be extremely obese and have my weight be a butt of a joke), so to have it come as a joke here hit close to home.
That's part of the problem. The fat mare wasn't simply fat. She was so exaggeratedly fat, she can't fit into them. A lot of obese people need specialized clothing simply to function. The character wasn't a character; she was a caricature.
