True. Spike actually got some respect early in season three.

I just wish the respect is translated into him being the lead character in an episode, not secondary or tertiary.

*sigh* If the best Spike "episodes" come from fanfiction or fancomics, then something is wrong.

They just did it because they needed to set something at a big event to emphasize Twilight's importance, and probably to counterbalance the idea that Spike wasn't getting his due in S4 while ironically feeding into the very problem of his episodes.

This episode started with a plot that could have been avoided with better communication. It started like "Swarm of the Century", or (worse) "Games Ponies Play". Combine that with a typical Spike conflict and resolution, and you have a zero-sum game on this episode contributing anything except adorkable Twilight meme bait.

The annoying trend of dumbing down Spike as a bumbling idiot while ignoring his more thoughful/mature side continued in this episode though I am not all that surprised. It really seems like the writers aren't even trying with Spike which is a shame because he is a character with a great deal of potential.

It's a shame. I hope I'm proven wrong tomorrow, but the fact we've had no preview on the last day before the episode airs may indicate that even DHX didn't like how the episode turned out.

I can understand that. Getting into it is sort of liked trying to get into an anime. You have to watch like a bunch of episodes in order to really get the feel of it and that can be very time consuming and draining.

Not only does it blow, it's a complete insult to the original. Damn criminals.
