I disagree.
I don't need a silly little picture/string of symbols to relate my current mood. 99% of the time you can tell someone's disposition from context, and the actual content of the message. And if you can't tell? Don't assume either way, orient your response to a more neutral stance, and gather more clues from there. It's really not that hard, to be completely honest. No one seems to understand this, though...

I've come to view (serious) emote usage as juvenile. No offense to anyone that does it here, however.
Hopefully they don't break on you within the first few months owning them, since they have a tendency to do that.
And nice going. I always have a certain spot to place my keys so that never happens to me.
