While I get why many people are so harsh on the Hobbit films by Peter Jackson (and I don't blame Tolkien purists for that, honestly), I still think the trilogy gets a tad over-hated. I finished watching them last night again and I still really enjoy the finished product. Yeah, the movies stray probably a bit too much from the book, but considering what they did with the deadlines they had to deal with (that they didn't have to deal with during the LotR production) while incorporating what they did from the book while melding that it quite well with material from the appendices & such WHILE connecting it to the Lords of the Rings movies; it's amazing we got what we got.
Yeah, the Hobbit films are inferior in a lot of ways to the LotR trilogy, BUT at least in my eyes, that doesn't make them bad. A lot of things work well for me, though again I know that is subjective. For what it's worth; I love the Hobbit trilogy. <3

The Hobbit trilogy is an awesome journey and adventure film, where it kinda feels like you are journeying with the characters. It is awesome.
I love Tolkien's work, but the films also work with me, they were pretty well done. Although LotR will always be better in my eyes, especially as an Epic (Epík) film, the Hobbit trilogy was really fun as well.
(Just should have given Smaug a bit more screentime in the 3d movie </3)

The story was fine and it indeed was a great movie, but the CGI hasn't done the movie justice.
I especially love how Smaug was portrait and the backstory of Legolas.
The love between Tauriel and Kili was not done well for my tast. I rather had a relation between Tauriel and Legolas, with her being killed by Bolg.

Honestly; Smaug was one of the best things about the trilogy, and he competes with Draco and Vermithrax Pejorative for best movie dragon, IMO.
I would somewhat agree with the Tauriel/Kili bit. I liked what they tried to do, but the execution was lacking. They needed a little more chemistry for me to be fully involved.
