  1. This is very pretty. :3

Maybe you can take pictures like these and make them into desktop wallpapers? Just a thought.

I used to use my photographs as desktop backgrounds a lot, I guess I could try and make some images specific for backgrounds though?

  2. I honestly don't know, i'm an modeler and animator for videogames. and i designed these parts by simply looking at other action figures that I've taken apart. and looking at all the different kind of joints out there. I also have an interest in mechanical engineering so I look at blueprints and shows about taking stuff apart etc. helps in figuring this kind of stuff out i think. but i wouldn't know what this kind of thing is officially called. I just learned by doing

I notice the people doing diy engineering just seem to figure it out by just looking at the way things work. It's rather nice to have someone just say it though, because I tend to get stuck in a loop of trying to find "proper" information sometimes. Sometimes you just have to try something rather that making sure it's perfect beforehand.

  3. Thank you :)

If you know how to use 3d modeling programs it doesn't really matter if you use a CAD or an Polygon Art program. I've seen people making parts like that with Sculpting programs like z-brush.

It's really up to the skill of the artist and knowing what techniques to use.

Another thing. If you know how to create a 3 dimensional object out of 2D plans or reverse engineer a 3d object back into 2 dimensional plans. You can create anything imaginable. The only thing you'll have to learn beyond that point are the rules of the material your working with. a good example of this is an older project i did about a year ago. Where i created plans for a plushie of luna out of a 3d model of her. (check that out here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/53047-my-first-plushie-princess-luna/ )

Wow, that plushie is very impressive! I have a question, what would you call the skills required to design mechanical parts like the that? i find it hard to figuring out the proper terms to look for online for things similar to that for some reason. I haven't exactly looked into making linkages like what you have there with the figure, but I've tried to find other types of information about designing other types of parts.

  4. Ugh how do I keep forgetting that whenever this topic gets brought up, yea that is one show I'll give them, I like it a lot.

I forgot about it too in my other post. I think the Avatar shows are really the only good thing they have going for them, they should know better than to mess Korra up. Actually I think they are really trying to make Korra a good show the appeals to fans. It's interesting how it's basically anime produced by an American company.

  5. Well I guess dailymotion would get more attention, along with a bunch of other video hosts. It's like asking "what if Google disappeared" you'd get people saying "well, I'd just use [insert search engine here]". But I think you meant something along the lines of what if youtube and ALL the other video site went down. I personally don't watch YT all that much compared to some other people, but it would be a major disruption in the internet for sure!

  6. They think that's old? It makes me wonder how they'd react to one of those old handheld games that ran on calculator technology

    C'mon Hasbro. Make it.

Somepony really has to make a retro style avr based pony game thingy!

Dude i'm 16 and I still use mine! What i should do is collect a bunch of stuff around the house and save them for when im like 50 and see if they're expensive!

I kinda wish I still had my GBA, it got ruined by can urine of all things, I think... I can just use emulators though!

  7. Rarity pretty much sits at the top for me at all times. Discord being second place and mainly because he doesn't get nearly enough screentime. If he had more, I'd probably like him more.

Counting the minutes before this topic gets fused with a bigger topic that probably already exists...

I think Discord is a pretty cool character! A god of chaos inspire by the Q!

  8. How could anyone, even young children prefer fake touch buttons over real buttons? That's horrible! I guess they are just so used to it that it seems normal to them, poor widdle saps :derp:. I used to have a gameboy advance, I even for a time had one of those stupid lighted magnifier things! I'm glad Nintendo still makes pixely portable game consoles, I thinks it's a smart move, especially with how much retro 8bit style games are becoming popular. And they even don't go totally insane with anti-tampering like M$ does (well last time I checked, years ago).

I think though that with a few good emulators, and a controller thingy, an android phone totally beats a gameboy and a slew of other emulatable old consoles. Hmm, it's actually rather interesting that technology has advanced to the point where one hobbyist could cheaply design and build something equivalent (or far superior) to an old gameboy with some 3d printing and microcontrollers.

Whats the point of topics if you can't deviate from them! :derp:

Yeah, it's weird how many people don't ever question the things they have been indoctrinated with, they just accept things the way they are just because, really quite sad actually. Associations are important because that's just the way our minds seem to work, but they are not definite, and they do certainly get old. But (you know starting a sentence with "but" is actually an okay thing to do) I guess that's something I like about FiM, a subtle way to challenge the norms a bit without provoking my anxiety too much  :derp: Now if only I could get myself to wear MLP shirts more often...

  10. You know I dunno if the show would be quite as girly, or get as much crap as it does, if it weren't for the MLP name. Makes you wonder what the show would be like if it wasn't attached to the franchise. Would it change at all? Would people's perception of it change? Would it be nearly as popular? Curiosity abound.

That's probably another one of my favorite things about the show. It brings to light many oddities in our society and the way people think.

That is so true! The history behind the My Little Pony franchise gives it a stigma of being for little girls. Imagine if it was some sort anime show, I think it would get less grief that way. I think that the way our society thinks is very messed up in general, take the basic "pink is for girls" association. It's really quite ridiculous that a mixture of red and white should be avoided by males. In fact I've heard that it used to be blue for girls, and pink for boys in some cultures. I'm glad that FiM is helping to challenge some rather stupid beliefs held by society.

  11. Gee, well I love the style, and the art it has inspired. I think the writing is clever, it has little clever subtleties to it that are nice to watch. I also really love the comics too, those are great! I for the most part think the brony community is great too! I also like the excuse to like something "girly" like MLP too!  ;)  As far as what I like in the show, I pretty much like all the main characters, they pretty much have times when they do something at least a little annoying (what show doesn't?), but they are all usually great!

Oh, yes, and fanart fanart fanart :yay:  <3

  12. What is the general opinion on using another's art as a reference, at least for something like MLP? You can't exactly use a real photo as a reference because there aren't any photographs of (MLP) ponies, at least that I know of :derp: I guess screenshots from the show are the most kosher references, but those are really just drawings too. I ask because I use a lot of reference pictures, and a recent drawing of mine (http://fav.me/d88isdg) looks quite a bit like the reference, especially because the pose is somewhat unique, rather than a generic blank stand pose.
