  1. Krita is really great! On windows though it's a bit slow under certain conditions, though it's been very actively developed lately and should hopefully see some speed boot under Windows. If you use Linux by any chance it's supposed to be much faster under that OS, I would try it but can't get my cheapo pen  tablet working win Linux. There is Paint tool SAI, which is really quite nice under windows, though if I could I would probably use Krita. I actually got a free download of SAI from someone on DA, but if you really want to walk the plank matey, erm, I mean get it for free you should be able to find it(or PS) if you use good judgement for what you download.

As for photoshop, it's great for a lot of things, and a lot of very amazing artists use it for amazing things. However I personally think it's not the best tool for digital painting because it has no brush stabilization, something which both SAI and Krita have, along with great brush engines. It's also very expensive too, so unless you plan on doing lot's of photomanipulation and such.... Actually no, just start with GIMP, and Krita, both are free and open source, and quite good. For digital painting you can apply most photoshop tutorials to [insert painting program here] pretty easily. I think of you want to learn more about digital painting crtl+paint is a great website to check out! Also if you don't have a pen tablet, you should get one, and not a cheap crappy one like I did, real Wacoms start at like $50, so it's not a very big investment, just use all the money you saved not buying photoshop!

edit: looks like I'm a bit late here

  2. The WeLoveFine Trixie is currently my favorite. The figure pose, and facial expression represents that brashness and arrogance that I like about the character, and the angles compliment the pose.

Look at that! That is a really good looking figure! I really love the post and expression, why can't there be more figures like that?

  3. I’m terrible at drawing, closet thing I do is play around with Paint.net of pictures I’ve taken, or random scribbles or Google images pictures and make random art stuff for album art and general playing around.

    Like this for example

As for hobbies, collecting old Disco and dance records is one and the other is making music :)

    Ooh, photomanipulation!

  4. I like to draw ponies :derp:. I also want to improve my general drawing ability. Sadly I neglect drawing kind of a lot. I love digital painting and think it very awesome! I do a lot of photography, which it my most refined artistic skill. Sometimes I play with flame fractals, which are pretty cool. I've also been working on the game mod in my sig, which is pretty fun also! ^_^

I also like viewing other peoples amazing pony art on DA, playing games, browsing random things on the internet, and listening to the same song over and over again till I can't stand it. I'm also pretty good at cooking semi-vegan food!

  5. pretty good did you take it just cause?

I try to take at least 1 photo a day, I'm sort of doing a 356 project, but sometimes I miss days. I haven't actually "developed" (post processed) any of my photos in a while, so I felt like posting one of the pictures.

  6. Thank you, but for the last one I need her looking directly into the camera.  I'm not able to use her cartoon model for this because her frontal view is lacking detail and shading to bring her muzzle out.

I might be ably to post it differently (if the model is "rigged"), changing the lighting to bring out the shape should be easy enough though.

I found a model that's not posed and did a few front renders for you with different lighting:

The angle on the first two is a little off....

Let me know if you want more...

Darnit, I just realized those look like s1 luna :derp:

I would be interested in some of the drawings you come up with, could you post some here?

  7. Are there really no suitable reference images available online? I don't think using a 3d model would be the best idea for a drawing reference because I notice they usually look a little off because the 2d style can't really translate over to 3d perfectly.

I did find some good looking models on DA and I'll render a few snapshots with blender real quick.

The first is normal perspective, the rest are orthographic.

  8. I don't think it childish, it's simply of form of entertainment, well a bit more than that. It's rather silly, your brothers view IMO. Using similar logic you could say that tv is childish, or the internet, or dear Celestia, that MLP is childish  :o What would that make games about MLP?

BTW: did you know that you can emulate most, if not all, Nintendo games on desktop computers and android/ios thingies? ...just saying.... :P

  9. Hi !  This is a very thought provoking thread you've started.  But believe or not, we already have a very similar one from some time ago.  Whenever an idea for a new topic comes up, please take a moment to do a search on the forum and see if the subject is already being discussed.  In any event, I will go ahead and merge your this with the original thread.

    Happy posting!  :)

I guess I should have searched here too, not just a certain mega popular search engine :derp: This looks like an interesting thread, I'll be sure to read it!  ^_^

Wow, I've speed read about 50% of the thread(I intend to normal-read all of it) and it's pretty amazing! I guess the show just had a lot of references to esoteric things. I think it's very cool that there is such detail in the show! I'm not sure how much of it is intentional, or just came from the teams subconscious to some extent. I think that could very well be part of why FiM is so captivating. Just the fact that those things are there is very interesting and for me adds another level of appreciation for FiM.

I do wish I would have found this before the references to the eye of providence, but no harm done. I'm glad that there seems to be far far more positive and interesting bit and pieces hidden in the show. And I think it really adds an extra level of interest to the show. I think that people are naturally drawn to such symbolism, that's why stories that use it seem so interesting. This show can't exactly make direct references to things like the tree of life and get by the people in charge at Hasbro. I wonder if there are is any symbology inside the comic series?

Great work finding this @SasQ! You obviously have a keen eye for esoteric, occult, alchemic, etc. symbology, and apparently advanced time equations!  :)

On a side note my posts seem very short now :derp:

  10. ooh, nice! Have you heard of Mine Little Pony it's a very impressive mod for Minecraft that changes the play models into ponies! I'm working on a clone of Mine Little Pony called "Mine Little Testy Pony" for a game called Minetest, a free open source Minecraft like game. You should check both mods out!

P.S. There is a Minecraft server that uses Mine Little Pony called Brohoof that looks really awesome. I haven't been able to try it because my copy on Minecraft isn't exactly valid if you know what I mean. You should totally try it though! ..and then maybe tell me what it's like?

  11. Well we don't really see what's inside that tent but I have commonly seen eye symbols associated with fortune tellers, commonly in cartoons fortune tellers are seen in tents. And the owl thing was in an episode about spike's jealousy of an owl, so it's possible that the animators thought "well it's an episode about an owl so I'll stick an owl on the book". Again it has nothing to do with anything.

Well, that's probably the best comment so far I've gotten on this thread so far!
