2021 / next year is gonna be pretty interesting. the first month of January alone is filled to the brim with motorsport. (Dubai 24 Hours, Abu Dhabi 6 hours, Daytona 24 hours) So recently, we got the announcement that Porsche and Audi will compete in the WeatherTech Sports Championship in 2023 (I really wanna see what these cars will look like. well, technically they have 24 months to build a race car =P when you put that way, it's not that long XD) and then, there's the clash between the Australian Racing Group and V8 Supercars. A number of high-profile commentators have already left the sport and the ARG is armed with a number of categories, and they'll broadcast it LIVE and FREE on 7 plus. V8 Supercars is in BIG trouble. It's Australian GT / GT World Challenge Australia VS V8 Supercars. I like where this going.
I've already made the switch to sports-car racing. Why the hell should I pay $50 a month when I can watch GT3 LIVE and FREE on youtube / on IMSA TV / 7 plus?
I hope it falls under the ownership of the Australian Racing Group, 'cuz FOX SPORTS has butchered the series and it has become nothing more than a cash-grab.
V8 Supercars is irrelevant at this point. Holden / GM is dead in this country and the only reason WHY they're racing the Camaro is so they can keep the sport alive (despite the fact that it's NOT sold here in Australia / GM Specialty Vehicles DOES NOT convert it to right hand drive and there are a number of rumours floating 'round that the Camaro will be discontinued in 2022). Yeah, they're desperate and I hate to say it, but they'll end up like DTM. They've already made the switch to GT3 because NO ONE wants to build a car that is eligible for DTM due to the lack of interest. They need to ditch the ol' Holden / GM VS Ford rivalry if they wanna survive. Take a look at GT3 / Sports car racing and why it's become a success, and the popularity of the Bathurst 12 hour in comparison to the Bathurst 1000 in recent years. They have a multitude of brands. If one brand leaves, another one will fill in the gap.
While I'm waiting for Audi and Porsche to develop their LMDH Prototype for 2023 / the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, I'll watch some of the fights they've had in WEC just to see what it'd be like when these two up go against each-other in 2023
