Would you rather not get interest on your funds then? Because that’s how you get interest. Also your funds are insured for that reason. I don’t deny banks are crooks.  It’s a good thing I don’t technically work in one.

Also by that logic could I promise I am on your account and take your money from it? You can predominantly thank fraudsters for check holds. People lie. So if we just clear a large check and it returns because the person who made it doesn’t have the funds available, who pays for it? You are responsible for what you put in your account. Basically the question is, do you want to risk your own money on the chance that the check maker actually can honor the check? Or do you want to wait another day or two for safety?

Yeh, that's why checks are signed by the person the money is coming from! ...right? I don't understand any of this.

I work at a credit union. And I learned the hard way there’s a difference because at my interview I called it a bank and they gave out to me about it.
