And now for yesterday’s question:
Which of the following divers found the body of Deon Dreyer in Bushman’s Hole and died attempting to retrieve it for Deon’s family?
A. David Shaw
B. Don Shirley
C. Jacques Cousteau
D. Jerry “Corky” Tilly
The answer was...
SpoilerA! David Shaw was a pilot and an accomplished diver with 5 years of experience and 333 dives under his belt at the end of his life. Shaw found Deon’s body in 2004; Deon had died of oxygen toxicity ten years prior and Bushman’s Cave is notoriously dangerous to dive, never mind perform body retrieval. It was thought his body would remain there forever. Shaw promised to bring Deon back, but on the attempt in 2005, he tragically passed away. It was thought his body would remain in the cave as well, but days later when the crew went to pick up the remaining tools they left there, they found both the bodies of Deon Dreyer and David Shaw at the surface. Both were given proper burials, and their families much needed closure.
That’s all for this week. Thank you all for taking part, and until next time- keep looking up.

@Kujamih that’s not the worst part. The worst part is knowing that video exists of David Shaw’s last moments struggling to get Deon into a body bag. At one point you see Deon’s goggles and you know that Shaw stared death in the face.
