  1. This philosophy is the whole reason I think they should have them change. I don't think desires should be assumed to be predetermined. Again that we do not know whether they can change or not; we just havent observed any change. And its not like it would be very common if it could happen. IMO changing makes more sense than having generic talents, which in turn still makes more sense than predetermined desires that the pony will have throughout their entire lives. OK maybe im being a little harsh here, but i just really don't like that idea
  2. ok well i see it but if noone else does then thats good. I care a lot about the fandom itself, and i thought it might be damaging to it, im glad nobody else thinks so.
  3. I just have been watching pony music on youtube, and i noticed that the ponies just look a lot cuter in the earlier seasons. im not actually sure what it is, but the main thing i notice is that before, rainbow dash looks so pure and innocent, and now she has blue eye shadow like rarity used to in some scenes. Before example: Twilight sparkles eyes look different in the latest season than they did back then, i think thats whats different about her... but not entirely sure. rainbow dash has blue eye shadow now in some scenes whereas only rarity used to, for example: http://imgur.com/a/t9toi strangely she doesn't always have blue eye shadow though... its wierd I wish they would go back to the way they were animated in previous seasons, i think the cuteness was a lot of the draw initially. This could be a subliminal reason why some people liked earlier seasons more. I wonder if the creators of the show ever come on this forum. I like the writing for the later seasons more but i like how the ponies looked more in the previous seasons.
  4. You are right in saying that ponies can do other things than what their cutie marks do, but we have never seen a pony with a generic cutie mark be really really good at anything. so that either means that if you don't have a specialized cutie mark you are destined for a life of mediocrity, or that WHEN you become truly great your cutie mark can change, and I prefer to think its the latter, although either theory is arguably plausible. if the mark is a symbol of the personality then it should not change though, i grant you that. 'helping others' isn't really a skill. its like someone saying "im good at living". what is living, and what is helping others. You help others by doing specific tasks for them, and the specific task is what the cutie mark is usually in. I understand that we view cutie marks a lot differently, and I think it could be handled one of two ways. 1. We could have cutie marks change to reflect new skills and interests, like I have been thinking, or 2. The show could go the route and have ponies showcasing specialized talents that fall outside of their cutie marks(for example the master baker with a newspaper cutie mark instead of bread. that might be a little TOO much dissonance but you get the idea). Neither one has really been happening and I think this is something they should address in season 7 or 8. Personally I still like the change idea better, because if they get too far outside of the cutie mark, then whats the point of having the cutie mark in the first place?
  5. nooo twilight don't destroy that powerful magical artifact! I would have changed the newbie dash episode so that rainbow dash was shining instead of falling flat a little bit. thats the only thing i can think of...
  6. Yea this is it exactly. What if they didn't want to do that their whole lives. The show never has addressed a situation like that, and it should
  7. I think they are writing for a higher level audience. Like in the indian restaurant episode, the food critic, in previous seasons, would have tried the food at the end and become happy and everyone would be happy. But in this season they went for a more realistic approach and she stalks off in a huff, with rarity having made an enemy. I really like it, myself, its one of the good things about season 6. Realism is better for the adult fans
  8. Well, its true that most things associated with a person or pony are ussually static. if you have red fur, and you share off your fur, it will grow back red again. If someone magically takes your ability to play an instrument, restoration magic will of course restore the same talent, because its restoration magic. But talents and affinities can change over time without magic. Right now the show hasn't reflected that in any way. It just puts ponies into boxes. Like others have been saying, cutie marks aren't exclusive, but they should reflect the main talent a pony has. If they develop their individual talents more than 'helping ponies find cutie marks' its perfectly plausible. It's not so farfetched and infact might be a good message to send. For example, if i have a job as a newspaper pony, and a job at a bakery, and my cutie mark is in newspaper delivery, all well and good. But if I then ascend the ranks and become the master of the bakery, and from there I advance to head the bakers guild in the entire town, it would not make sense for me to still have a cutie mark in newspaper delivery.
  9. ?? they have never been said to be permanent at any time during the show. if you see 10 houses that are blue in a town, it doesn't mean all the houses in the town are blue. same with cutie marks and ponies
  10. I agree with this. The marks don't really show uniqueness right now, apple blossoms is completely generic
  11. To answer the OP, we actually saw the fitness center in one of the cutie mark crusader episodes in season 5 or 6, when they went and advised buff biceps about lifting weights
  12. well I think it would be a substantial change because right now some people are upset(and i would be upset too if i didn't think this was temporary) that the CMC got generic cutie marks instead of ones showcasing the talents that had been hinted at for multiple seasons, and is what make each of them a unique pony. The perfect cutie marks for them would be something that shows they are cutie mark crusaders(the shield) but also shows these talents.
  13. I want to go to a pony convention and the one near me(midwest brony fest) got canceled due to some drama (or so i heard, very curious about what actually happened). The next closest one is the crystal fair in st. louis, but I haven't seen any announcements one way or the other whether or not it's going to happen. The facebook page and twitter are still running, but its not on the poniverse events or this list of pony conventions: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1smBLl_b-QLSrsiM-O9EMkXaXHHSTe2HwngGUh5GB3Xg/edit#gid=0So... I thought someone might know.
  14. edited my post hope you saw it. What I mean when i say we never saw a pony recieve a cutie mark is aside from the CMC, because we obviously saw them, and i don't count flashbacks, but that's not really important. Although we have never seen a cutie mark change before, but we don't know that they can't change. and infact we saw that they can, even though it was the result of a spell. Why do you assume the cutie marks have always stayed the same on every pony in equestria? Sure they did for the Mane 6 and a few side characters, but that's a small sample size. And all of those ponies obviously have the correct cutie mark and have no need of a change. I think that for every pony in equestria to be perfectly matched with their cutie mark means they can change. And every pony being perfectly matched with their cutie mark except for the CMC is just too much coincidence. its something like "one of these things is not like the other".
  15. How would it destroy it? They can still help people, but it doesn't make sense for that to be their main talent, when they obviously have other talents that have been hinted at all show long. We have never seen a cutie mark change, but thats ignoring the fact that weve never seen a pony get a cutie mark at all. and actually, we did see cutie marks have been changed in at least one episode, the finale of season 3! Think about the storyline potential. "I am unhappy with my life, but I can't seem to change because my cutie mark says i can only do this. Woe is me!" and THEN... songs, and then BANG the cutie mark changes, and the moral of the story is that you don't have to stick with the status quo, and your life can change. Think about it, doesn't it make sense? it will probably be a similiar cutie mark to show that they can do what they are doing now as well as the new talent; like, instead of an apple inside a shield it will be a beaker inside of a shield.
  16. I was actually just about to make a thread about this very topic. I was going to ask the opposite. To my mind, the cutie marks they got are obviously supposed to be temporary, and they will get changed to actual talent cutie marks(or at least modified) in the future. The reason is that it doesn't make much sense for them all to have the same cutie mark when their talents are all different, and also that cutie marks ussually have to do with the talent of the pony in question, and these are kind of generic. I think they will get new marks at some point in season 7 or in season 8. Their talents are still there, scootaloo is riding scooters, sweetie belle is being gentle and creative with rarity, and apple blossom is a crafts-pony. I definitely think the generic mark they got is going to get upgraded. The reason for doing it this way is that now they don't have to break up the cutie mark crusaders by having them get their cutie marks one at a time. Wouldn't it have lessened the impact if it was one at a time instead of in that really cool episode with like 7 new songs? Now they all have temporary cutie marks but if one of them gets upgraded the others still won't feel sad because they at least have a generic mark. It makes a great ongoing storyling, and it even makes sense also in light of the fact that they are the only ponies we have seen get a cutie mark, so we don't really know how its done or if there are multiple stages of it.
  17. I still say season 7 will introduce new story arcs. I still say the new writers did ok by the show going slow for a little bit. It doesn't mean the show permanently has to be that way. thanks for your guys' post it helped me see where people were coming from. you guys are true ponies!
  18. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Rainbow Dash How did you find MLP Forums?: I found the mlp forums while searching for pony conventions. How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Well i started watching MLP a couple years ago, but for a long time i never got too much into it. I did use the brony tag for myself just because of the reactions i got, but i never watched more than a few episodes in season 1. But recently, I have become more interested in it(maybe too into it). the more i watched the more I liked it. When i came here I was shocked to find that some people actually don't like the show anymore! But then I realized most people did like it still, and it was only a minority of people that didn't. Sooo yea. I am in topeka kansas and i really want to go to a pony convention in 2017 but midwest brony fest appears to have been canceled so now idk what ill do. if anyone lives near me and wants to share costs to go somewhere message me
  19. Let's discuss this, because I just don't see it(about season 6 being too simplistic). I obviously like season 6. Here are just a couple things i think were interesting so far. In the zephyr episode, Instead of reforming immidiately, he had to be kicked out three different places and become homeless to reform. It's kind of a message that some people only respond to tough love. The indian restaurant episode: The food critics reaction to the restaurant becoming popular, did you notice she didn't try the food and become happily agreeable? She stalked off in a huff. I thought this reaction was interesting, because it runs contrary to what the shows been doing so far. In the previous seasons, the ending of the episode has always been all love and friendship, but the new writers put a spin on things kind of. Not huge things, but interesting. Could you tell about some of the nuanced episodes you saw in the previous seasons, and compare them with the 'simplified' ones from season 6?
  20. I love this fandom and this is worrying to me that people are trashing season 6 without a legitimate reason for doing so. "it was mostly filler"? So was every other season. It hasn't changed. It's been mostly filler with some story worked in. So why do you hate season 6? I honestly can't understand. I think the people that didn't like season 6 have unrealistic expectations. MLP, at it's best, is high quality individual episodes. WHICH IT HAD. The episode quality is better than previous seasons. Even the people complaining agree that season 6 has quality episodes. This isn't game of thrones. Longterm storyarcs are not the most important thing. its an episodic based show, and it always has been. It didn't suddenly go from huge anime style storyarcs to individual episodes. MLP has always had very slow progression with the focus being on individual episodes. I don't understand these people complaining about longterm story progression. Did they watch the previous seasons? If you want big story arcs look at fanfiction and such, the show itself has never had them, and I don't expect it to. Earlier there was a complaint saying something like 'they didn't accomplish anything'. They aren't the superfriends or the justice league. what do you expect? It is truly baffling to me what these people want. they say s5 had no progression, but it did(cutie marks, flurry being born, starlight glimmer joining mane 6). The level of story progression across each season hasn't even changed really. I haven't finished season 6 yet, but I have enjoyed it more than any other season so far, and im not just saying that to spite the people that don't like it, im being honest.
  21. I think season 5 did have progression. starlight glimmer joined the mane 6, the cutie mark crusaders gained their cutie marks, and flurry was born. Thats about what the other seasons had isnt it? Heck it's even more, but enough about that. The whole reason season 6 was slow was because they had just hired new writers, and they didn't want to get too ambitious. The important thing is that they have established the fact that the new writers are able to produce high quality writing(make it entertaining). NOW, in season 7, they will start advancing the plot. It's OK to have a single slow season, and if fans jump off the bandwagon just from this, then they probably were people the franchise wasn't going to keep around. People in fandoms are scared of the franchise changing, but I really think in this case it's unfounded. The map is merely a tool to be used once in awhile; the new writers have proven themselves; and now the next season will have more progression. They have already come out and said the next season will be the biggest one yet for the MLP franchise. I guarantee you they are having meetings and thinking of ways to address the issues you brought up. there was a series like MLP that went south, it was pokemon. The writing in season 1 was much like MLP, with refrences for adults, humor on multiple levels, ect. But then it changed, and they started to write only for children, stopped using adults refrences, and the quality of the show dropped off. That hasn't happened here. The quality of the show is better, and plot will be moving along shortly. The true warning sign will be if the episodes themselves become boring to everyone but children, and the opposite has been happening lately. Furthermore, there are several series like detective conan that move much slower than MLP and still have huge fanbases. I don't think this show is going to fall into that pattern, but it could. It's not game of thrones where worldbuilding is the most important thing, its a show about positive messages.. They could very easily go for a slower paced show with high quality individual episodes. However, as I said, I am fairly certain they won't and the show is just going slow temporarily while they let the writers gain experience and confidence. Please give the new writers a chance to get settled in. You said yourself you liked the content they produced. Content begets plot. I think its very unfair to the writers what people are saying about season 6. They just came in and your expecting them to make huge changes. I for one don't want new writers coming in and making huge changes. They done the right thing going slow for a bit. They are exploring the world they have created, rather than expanding on it.
  22. OK sure but First of all, season 6 has had so many good episodes, every one i watch continues to impress me(only watched 13 of them so far). You didn't like the indian restaurant episode? or the zephyr breeze episode(who doesn't know somepony like zephyr? I thought it was inspiring, and the song is good too), the dragon episode introduced a new character and set up some plot for future interactions between the equestria and the dragon civilization(and it was really hilarious). The musical hearthswarming eve episode that has had so many music remixes? That's only from watching the first 13 episodes. Second of all, they hired some new writers during season 6 from what I understand. Do you think these are evil people that want the show to fail? of course not. they are new but give them a chance. I am sure they are seeing the criticism, and will address your concerns in the next season. Come on give them a chance. They will hear you. Next, just because an episode uses the map to make them go somewhere doesn't automatically mean it's a bad episode. Some of my favorite episodes have been map episodes. mind you, I don't want every episode to be a map episode, but they haven't been doing it that way in s6, they only have had one so far, and it was the indian restaurant episode that I liked. The show isn't going stagnant or anything. These are unquestionably high quality episodes. Sure, your right that they aren't advancing the plot, but the plot has been moving pretty quickly before this. It's OK to have a slow season, especially when you just hired some new writers. This season was slow, but im sure next season will continue to advance the plot.
  23. I have seen a lot of hype for season 6 on the site, threads and such, but none for season 7. where is it?? edit: A lot of ponies don't seem to know anything about season 7, so I will share what I have learned. http://www.equestriadaily.com/2016/10/my-little-pony-season-7-officially.html Season 7 is officially confirmed, and it's going to be airing on the discovery channel. There is a huge movie release planned for 2017, and from what I understand it is an actual pony movie, not an equestria girls movie. Some people have been saying that season 6 didn't change a lot with the plot because the movie is going to change things... The new season is going to be in spring 2017. OK thats all I know
