@CypherHoof: Shall we speak 'bout the reasons I gravely dislike the seasons starting from 4th (about midway)... or it is obvious enough?
Well, to be faithful to the truth, some episodes are okay, while some are top cringeworthy... unlike seasons 1-3.
IMHO GlimGlam is even more Mary Sue than Twi (in bad, artificial way) and unlike Twi she is not cute, which maketh her mary-sue-ness glaring.
*takes her breath*

I must say I like GlimGlam, and think S7 was possibly the greatest ever in FiM history (not that I liked every episode of course)
GlimGlam is more a White Ranger than a JarJar, and while she IS powerful, she is also flawed and lacking in self confidence, putting her in the same basket as the element bearing ponies.
In her favour; she has powerful magic, and is a natural leader. Against her (and making her more relatable, instead of just a mary sue) is her insecurity and instablity. She was a latchkey filly with trouble making friends, and latched onto Sunburst at an early age as her one and only "true" friend - then went off the rails when that was snatched from her. Pinkie has similar reactions; despite her "friendship" with everypony in town, she totally lost it when she thought her core friends were shutting her out. Moondancer also had a bad reaction to her "main" friend and study partner Twi not turning up for her party, which in many ways parallels GlimGlam's history, so there is plenty of canon examples.
In general though, it has been good to see new (or at least non-mane6) characters moving up in the storylines; we now have the Pillars, GlimGlam, the reformed changelings, the dragons, a more mature CMC (although we have yet to see Scoots' home life; another latchkey filly perhaps?) and so forth, which gives the show more opportunities to expand the pony world without having to extend the map or retread the same plots around the same mane 6 character flaws over and over. If FiM DOES end with S9, I will be sad to see it go, as I think there is still a lot that could be explored (and Hasbro can always sell toys of the new characters, even if GlimGlam WAS a DHX creation) but also wouldn't want to see it end up like the simpsons, where there ARE new seasons, but nobody cares anymore....
