  1. Steady air is in the forecast tonight. Time to setup up the Skywatcher 16 telescope. I'm in the mood for some narrowband imaging.

I'm glad to hear the weather is good again! :fluttershy: I hope you get a lot of great pictures!

Aside from the humidity, the weather has been fantastic this week! I'd say Rainbow Dash did her job. lol

  2. Thanks for the follow!

No worries at all, the pictures you post are really interesting!

  3. Saturn's Polar Hexagon has always been a challenge for me to capture. I think I got it this time! Had to push my Celestron C8 a bit past its optical limit to do it.

Probably a silly question but why are there no stars behind it?

Saturn is much brighter than the background stars nearby. The exposure time needed to show them and some of its moons would completely wash the planet out.

  4. Had a decent imaging session yesterday evening with Venus. I think I dialed in the focus really well, which is very difficult to do in UV.

1st image is UV-A. 2nd is Near IR. Cloud details are only visible in ultraviolet light.

  5. Clear skies. You know what that means!

  6. Another cloudy night, but tomorrow evening is looking good. Meanwhile, I'm just messing around with my thermal camera again.

I might want to clean the dust from the inside of my PC.

They do, which is amazing, considering that Venus rotates so slow. The cloud structures are only visible in UV light, which makes it difficult to image as our atmosphere scatters shorter wavelengths like crazy. Focusing those fine details is hard in that part of the spectrum.

Got any good pics of Saturn :^)

  7. Thank you for the follow!

  8. It would be neat if there was an MLP based weather app. Rainbow Dash pouncing on a storm cloud pretty much describes this past weekend and is in the forecast for tomorrow.

I'd have Rainbow Dash for rain... and Derpy for thunder! :muffins:

I guess Fluttershy for windy conditions? lol

  9. The internet service at my grandparents' house is soooo slow. I think dial-up is a tad bit faster.

Slow internet is so frustrating... :okiedokieloki: I know it's just because we've got used to it being so fast but still...

My grandparents have DSL but it has been slow all weekend. I have satellite internet and its usually fast, unless it's storming outside.

  10. My largest telescope is ready to go. There's still a couple clouds hanging around.

It's neat how the heat from the back patio is illuminating the telescope in the thermal image.

Mars is looking better each night as the dust settles.

  11. Come on Rainbow Dash, there's still a few clouds around that need moving.

Not the clouds again... Always there when you don't need them... :okiedokieloki:

  12. Last night was wonderful! The atmosphere was as steady as one could ask for. I will be posting more images of Mars and Saturn pretty soon.

The storm near the Polar Hexagon appears to have grown in size, since the last time I saw it.

Thanks. The humidity and mosquitoes were bad but I can't complain when the sky is clear. Hopefully tomorrow night stays clear. I plan to setup my large telescope.

  13. Ah, finally! The clouds have cleared out. Time to setup my telescope. Mars and Saturn are out.

That's amazing! :wau: I didn't know it was possible to see Neptune – and yeah, you can't see much detail there, but seeing an object so far away even that well is awesome!

Thanks! I am excited to see what my 16" diameter telescope can show on Neptune and Uranus this fall.

Ooooh wow! I hope you get some good pictures!

  14. I'm finally starting to get the hang of this thermal camera. I am very curious to see what the Moon looks like thru it.

I really like the reflections from the cup of hot water in the thermal image.

I know, right? I find it fascinating how objects appear in light that is invisible to us.

wow is an absolutely perfect and interesting square.

  15. Another cloudy, hazy night so I probably won't be able to image Mars. This is a good time to play around with my thermal infrared camera.

One of my telescopes, at room temperature, imaged at 2-5 microns

    Celestron C8_IR 2-5micron_8-11-2018.jpg

  16. Forecast calls for the clouds to clear out later tonite. Might take another shot at imaging Mars.
