  1. @@almozayaf, ...Okay.

Yes I suppose I could definitely be in a worst position and yes keeping secrets from my family is not something I want to do.

But it just seems to be the temporary answer for now. I will tell them eventually when I have the freedom to get out of the house.

And no, of course they wouldn't kill me, but I suppose I'm just afraid of my own family rejecting me, especially when I'm still under their roof. When I finish up school and move out, then they can reject me all they want for all I care.

  2. Like you, I'm too scarred to tell my family. My mom I know most likely won't hate me. However, I don't know about my dad and brother. I'm just too scarred. I wish I had someone I could count on.

Wow that hits close to home.

The main two people I'm concerned about their reactions are my older brother and father, though there are various other family members down the line that would also have a similar brand of hate towards me.

Sorry to hear you don't have anyone trust worthy to really talk to this about. I'm not entirely sure if who I told will keep their mouth shut, but we've been friends long enough that I think she knows when I really need her to keep something a secret for just a little while.

  3. Man I've been sitting her blogging about reliving my GameCube days and you're here on my next step, the SNES!

The SNES/Genesis era had to be my favorite era of gaming. I don't know what it is about games, but ever since they've moved to 3D rendered ultra-graphics, they seem very shallow. Of course there are major exceptions. but the SNES is probably my favorite system of all time.

The games you have shown above alone can pretty much account for half my childhood. Seriously, I spent YEARS playing Super Mario World alone, but Yoshi's Island was the first game I beat (I didn't understand the save feature, so World was tough to beat in one sitting for a little kid).

I didn't play much of the SNES library sadly until I grew older and discovered  emulation. I got to play classic titles that I missed like Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger and FF6 and of course Earthbound (my favorite RPG series ever).

Though going back to games like Yoshi's Island or Donkey Kong Country just doesn't feel the same on an emulator. So I plan on making myself a SNES library in the near future of all my favorite titles!

Oh and props to the game you have in the console! Yoshi's Island is my personal best game ever!

  4. And you don't add Simcity to this list, it's kind of rediculose not adding Simcity to that list because do you know how big the Simcity community is?  It's big!  But not seeing it on here is quite disappointing to me.

Sorry, this is a personal hype list so its on what I am the most hyped about.

I'm not the biggest Simcity fan. I mean its a good game and I am interested in it, but its not something I'm as excited about than the other titles mentioned.

Last Guardian looks good--you aren't interested in Ni No Kuni, or DMC?

Man I am so out of things lately! :P

I actually had to do a quick search on exactly what Ni No Kuni is and WOW that looks amazing! How did I not hear of this before! Shame it seems that they are only localizing the PS3 version. I really need to get around to rebuying a PS3.

And I've never been a huge fan of DmC. I just never really played them. I hear they are pretty good and I'll be willing to try out the new one. Its just not a series that I feel all that attached to yet.

I have a friend who really hates the look of the reboot. I feel he's overreacting a bit. The game looks fine and a ton of fun.

  5. Thanks for your honest opinions guys.

And I suppose it is really nice to get something different in the franchise. As appealing as a TTYD 2.0 or a Super 2.0 sounds, something new is always a much more interesting experience.

I may have HUGE disagreements with the way that the game is designed, but it still seems like a worth while experience anyway.

It is a horrible RPG, but not a bad game. And I suppose in the end that's all that really counts.

  6. Yeah a lot of bullshit things happen to old games. They mostly happen because people don't think of the long term.

Someone in early 2000s- "Oh, well I better sell this old Earthbound game so I can pay for college. I guess I'll just put this convenient sticker right in the front of the cartridge, then they won't have to ask me about the price. Hmm... should I sell it with a box? Nah, NO ONE wants one of those!"

I mean its infuriating! Today a mint condition, in-box copy of Earthbound is worth A SHIT TON! But people do asinine things like stickers or even sharpie marker to the game's original cartridge and box which really hurts the game's value and makes people not want to buy them.

Luckily in the modern disc generation we don't have lame stickers to damage the long term value of our game... nah we have publisher antics like pre-order exclusives or on-disc DLC for that! :D

  7. @S.S. Beatle Brony: Believe it or not, I've never played a single Paper Mario game. :/ I SHOULD change that, but currently I'm putting the little money I get these days towards a Wii U.

If you can buy the original on Virtual Console, I'd recommend that one first.

There really is not chronology to them, but still its always nice to start with the series origins.

Thousand Year Door for GCN is the best imo. And hey you have multiple consoles to play it on! :D

Super Paper Mario is kinda the black sheep of the series since it has no turn based combat, though that may be a plus for some people. I think I'd actually prefer it more, if the platforming felt a bit more inspired.

@Chainsaw don't get sticker star if you are getting a paper mario game. :/

I haven't played it yet, but I've seen quite a bit of gameplay of it.

It definitely looks pretty meh. From what I hear the developers decided to abandon story or at least not make it a focal point, which really brings it back to N64 Paper Mario when I think of it, though I hear its even much worse than that! :(

  8. @Urdnot: Well, as much as I enjoy the Gamecube, I'd have to agree with you there, especially as an RPG fan. The PS2 has Dragon Quest VII. <3 But I don't have a bunch of PS2s, so doing this little thing with them wouldn't have been as amusing.

    Playstation has some great RPGs!

I need to own the Persona series, Dragon Quest VII, and FFIX asap! lol

  9. @,

Actually Urdnot, despite me being a bit GameCube Crazy right now, I'd have to say you are completely correct!

I will always prefer GameCube on a personal level, but it is clear that the PS2 is the superior system.

The Playstation 2 library is probably the greatest library in gaming (its pretty close with SNES, but I think PS2 just barely beats it). And if your PS2 is backwards compatible, (I think most are but Sony has a Slim obsession that normally nixes this) then you have another GREAT library of access.

The PS2 I'd say is probably the best console overall. (I'd award that to PS3, if its original models with FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY were easier and cheaper to find)

Probably after I finish my GameCube restoration quest, the PS2 will probably be next since there are some great PS2 and PSOne games I've loved in my childhood.

  10. @BronyHeart: Just curious, have you given the Wii a fair chance? Sure, there's a crapload of shovelware, but there's also games like Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, Fortune Street, Xenoblade Chronicles... I used to kinda dislike the Wii until I got one of my own and started playing it.

huh there are even some titles up there that I don't even know.

I seem to be REALLY lazy when it comes to following the Wii's third party library, mostly because its mostly shovelware.

There are probably some really solid titles that I've ignored over the years and I'll make sure to give the Wii's library a solid look some time soon!

  11. Nintendo just doesnt make good games like they did anymore. I honestly can't stand the wii, and I doubt I will like the wii U any better.

Meh to each their own, but they still do make good games in my opinion even if they are a bit misguided at times.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are probably my favorite of the Mario 3D platformers.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is pretty amazing.

Super Paper Mario is ALMOST as good as Thousand-Year Door.

Metroid Other M has its issues, but I don't feel its a bad game.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland I haven't played myself, but it looks fantastic, especially if you have friends.

Skyward Sword I'll admit is probably the worst Zelda game I've played, but even the worst Zelda can prove to be amazing on its own.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a pretty solid platformer. Its not one that I really like myself, but I respect it as a good game anyway.

I'll admit that the Wii library is probably the weakest Nintendo library ever, but there are some great titles in there worth checking out which you can if you ever get a Wii U thanks to backwards compatibility.

    ---

Though Nintendo's Wii U itself is already proving strong too! I haven't personally played any of the titles, but I do have reason to believe that they are pretty good.

Nintendo Land seems to be the Wii Sports of the console, so its hardly a game on its own, but it comes with the 32 GB version of the console so you'll likely get it anyway. And most of the games look like a ton of fun.

Pikmin 3 looks to be one of the first solid first party titles that I'll make sure to check out.

Also Nintendo has been hinting at a Legend of Zelda Wii U title that suppose to be BIG! Like Ocarina of Time big! Might be Nintendo overhyping their own game, but it is very possible the the next Legend of Zelda might be a new great!

Plus the Wii U is said to also have a huge Third Party influence which is one  of the reasons why the Wii wasn't very good. Already games like ZombiU and Scribblenauts Unlimited show what Third Party devs can do with the console.

If anything I see the Wii U as a "GameCube 2" or "what the Wii should have been in the first place". But hey if nothing seems to interest you yet about the Wii U I suppose you can still wait around until the library thickens out a bit.

  12. @@Kapi, Ah yes I was going to mention the Pokemon games but.... to be honest I'm not a huge fan of them.

I found their storyline and shadow Pokemon gimmicks really lackluster.

Still, I would like to own them. I even still have my Pokemon Colosseum Prima Strategy Guide! lol

    ---

And the GBA Player is a MUST HAVE, its just that it isn't really a game on its own and so it doesn't really fit well on my games wish list, plus finding the start-up disc can be a bit of a pain. Also I don't own any GBA games at the given moment so that's also an issue.

  13. @@Feld0, Nice advice Feld0! I've thought about different things to do for my Nintendo Wii since its in pretty rough shape and I suppose sending it in for repairs would be a good idea because keeping the Wii is still in my best interest. And I never thought about the whole GameCube controller support until now. That would make playing Smash Bros. Brawl infuriating for me because I can't stand using Wiimotes when playing Smash so just another good reason to keep the Wii.

Plus I wasn't being that literal when it came to tossing out the Wii, I meant it in a more figurative way. If it is still functional at all I'll keep it or probably just give it to my little sisters if I replace it (its most likely their fault why its so beat up, kids these days have no respect).

    ---

But yeah Wii U releases do look a tad dry after the initial release rush so I do highly recommend building a GCN library till then, especially if you haven't played a lot of the games! And hell, its not even that expensive of a collection to start. Most shops I see still supporting GCN sales are practically giving them away because there seems to be little market for them these days. Aside from the bigger titles they will range between $5-$10.

I'd say its worth your while to check out what the GCN has to offer. For me it has a far superior library to the Wii, and maybe I'm a bit biased, but even better than the N64's so-called "legendary library".

Then again that's just my opinion. I've also been strangely interested in the Wii's library lately as well. I feel I've probably missed quite a bit after ignoring it for so long.

    ---

Oh, and MLPF Protip: Attach all those pictures instead of hotlinking them, and they will all appear inline in your post.

And yeah I found that out the hard way didn't I. I had that sneaking suspicion that I should have just attached them, but I felt lazy.

    • Brohoof 1
  14. Also I didn't include any Donkey Kong Bongo games because... well that would require buying the Bongo controllers.

But I actually do really like them despite them being the absolute definition of gimmicky. I particularly like Jungle Beat because you get to beat the crap out of giant apes!

And I also didn't include Pokemon Channel because it really is hardly a game. I know I ignored that for Animal Crossing, but seriously you have little to no interaction with the game at all.

But still I would pick it up for cheap anyway because it still finds a way to be sorta fun and not aggravating like Hey You Pikachu was. :)

  15. That also reminds me that I never included any Star Wars Rouge Squadron or Star Fox games.

I REALLY like space combat games! Its one of my favorite genres.

Though I do remember not being particularly impressed with Rouge Squadron for some reason.

And well there are only 2 Star Fox games... and one is Star Fox Adventures which I wish never existed! :(

Star Fox Assault is pretty good if you don't mind the lame land segments.

  16. Where is Ikaruga that game is a MUST in the game library of any GameCube fan.

Hmm... actually I did in fact think on that one. Though my main issue is Shoot Em' Ups are not a genre I particularly like all that much.

Mostly because I'm really bad at them! lol

I just see all them bullets and I go into sensory overload!

So I really don't feel qualified to judge if a Shoot Em' Up is a good one or not because I can hardly play them.

Though I do find them fun to watch when someone who doesn't suck is playing. Its really suspenseful! And I have seen people play Ikaruga and was pretty damn entertained so maybe that means its good? I don't know.

  17. I remember getting my blue one for christmas when i was... 7? ... 8?..??? Oh wait... was it christmas, or was it my birthday...?!

Huh funny you should mention that.

The Nintendo GameCube was first released in Japan on September 15th, 2001, which also happens to be my 7th birthday! :D

And I believe I got it for either my 8th or 9th Christmas. I specifically remember that it came with Super Mario Sunshine because it was the only one left in the store with that promotion (I think the other ones came with Metroid Prime? Can't say for sure, but I just wanted the Indigo one!). But I also go Mario Party 4 along with it because Mario Party is boss.

I guess if needed to add anything to the list I could just scribble down ANY MARIO PARTY because I used to own all of them.

I completely disagree about Kirby Air Ride. I don't think it's stupid at all. I love that game, it's always been one of my favorite Gamecube games.

Well I obviously like it and its one of my favorite GameCube games because its on my MUST OWN list.

My only issue with Kirby Air Ride is that when I look at it now it looks more like something that you'd buy off of Xbox LIVE Arcade or more appropriately WiiWare. I find it kinda silly that this was a full released retail game because its so small.

I really do like the game, but it is one of THOSE titles that Nintendo sent out that didn't really seem like a full game. If it were released today it would have been a WiiWare or maybe a 3DS game. (But I wouldn't argue against porting it to these anyway)

  18. @, hmm... kinda reminds me of Spore...

But yeah its kinda a mix of tons of things, which is not always such a bad way to go about designing a game. I mean look at Binding of Isaac (which I also mention as an inspiration for its challenge and replayability) . It's pretty much a perfect mix of Bullet Hell Shootem Ups and top down Legend of Zelda.

I guess I could kinda save this idea somewhere if I ever decide to get into game design. My interest is obviously there, but its just not something I have the free time for and I'm not entirely sure if its something I should focus on as a career. So sometimes I just come up with near concepts for fun (I also do the same thing for bad sitcom ideas and really lame band names).

Oh and btw here's the pitch video for that Autonomous game I mentioned I accidentally ripped the setting from.

But as you can see they have quite a different focus than I do!

  19. Hmm... maybe I should pay more attention to game development teams.

I'm pretty glued to this Amnesia Fortnight thing that Double Fine's doing and it has obviously brought up some positive thinking as far as game design goes.

Though I did notice that I may have unconsciously found inspiration even from Autonomous, a prototype being developed for Amnesia Fortnight, where you are in a robot junk yard where you have to build robots to defend yourself.

I didn't even think about Autonomous when I was brainstorming this idea for fun. Though there game is taking on an entirely different feel than what I described in mine. (Theirs is more like a TRON sandbox)

  20. @, Alright I'll give you that character wise Babs Seed is a better character than Gilda.

Gilda was also a very generic bully and really the only thing that made her memorable was that she was a Griffon.

Babs at least had a redeeming quality to her and she changed to good making her a more dynamic character.

Still kinda generic in my opinion, but the CMC expansion might be something to look forward to.
