  1. GUYS HELP I CAN'T STOP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_JFdBsefqU Best release of the year, and it's not even an album. Imagine. Don't be surprised if I post this multiple times. Every one of you should hear this.
  2. There was talk of decades before, no? Lemme take my shot at my bests for every decade. 60's: Frank Zappa. Pushed far more boundaries than anyone except maybe Beefheart. 70's: Yes. A band that went in many more directions than any other prog rock band at the time. 80's (AKA the worst decade music has had so far IN MY OPINION): Philip Glass. This guy may not have been that experimental in a subgenre of classical music that's experimental to begin with, but his music captivates me the most. 90's: Fugazi. This band is a prime example of how to move things forward. They took what Minor Threat did, slowed it down, and made it twice as intricate. 00's: Godspeed You! Black Emperor. This is incredibly biased of me to say, as they're my favorite band, but nobody did music like them before they did what they did, and no one does music like them now. Simple as it gets.
  3. Have I posted here yet? To echo some previously mentioned opinions: The Beatles are too glorified. They were influential, but that's much different than being the greatest band of all time. Speaking of over-glorification, Mitch Lucker was not the greatest vocalist of all time, nor was Jeff Hanneman the best guitarist, or Cliff Burton the best bassist. If they were still alive, I guarantee you most likely wouldn't have those opinions (Cliff is barely audible a lot of the time so what the hell). If I may reference "A moment of silence, but not one moment more. The dead are to be forgotten, we are here to be adored." Some opinions of my own. If you say your favorite Led Zeppelin song is "Stairway to Heaven" (unless you've actually heard a good majority of their discography), your opinion of them has no merit. There are exceptions, of course; my favorite Coldplay song is still "Yellow" (though I don't think it's especially good anyway). My favorite classical music comes out of the 1960s through the 80s; Steve Reich and are the names for me. People that dismiss hip hop (or any other entire genre) as a whole should just keep searching beyond what they hear on the radio. was my entry point. I prefer more avant-garde jazz over the traditional bop stuff, with my favorites being Pharoah Sanders, and "God Hates Us All" is my favorite Slayer album. I've come so close to liking Dream Theater, but I keep falling back on Cynic and other prog metal bands that I feel introduce fresher concepts into their music. That's all I got, but I'll certainly be back when I think of others.
  4. Still can't get over this re-recording. It's like they took the original EP and put it through a "Februus" filter. Uneven Structure is still the best band in the "djent" game. Also this Palms single is fucking great
  5. My biggest obsession as of me writing this is the music of Philip Glass. I can't get enough of everything he's ever written. Forty or fifty years of material...
  6. I'd like to take the opportunity to move this thread away from brostep (most of which I consider trash but that's a story for another time) and bring some future garage and other whatnots in.
  7. Here's what I've got going. Really old-school German metalcore that breaks faces. This is one for those of us who are fans of Botch and Coalesce.
  8. I own a copy of the first pressing of Death Grips' "The Money Store" (by the way Death Grips is like metal only with hip hop instead of guitars) that has S&M, bewbs, and smoke from either a cigarette or a joint in one neat little image. Image search that and listen to "The Money Store" because it is good. Post-bath core from Misha.
  9. Best place to start with harsh vocals that go easy on the ears is KEN mode for sure. Great sludgey post-hardcore from Canada.
  10. Slayer already has. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQsUSOmUAIw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Az_f2jAXc Three killer records right here, with God Hates Us All being my favorite thing they've ever done, as I've said before.
  11. Wrest of Leviathan did a project called Lurker of Chalice, and he only released one album from it in 2005. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad90kEXKSG4 Listening to this as a strong recommendation from this guy, Myke C-Town, whose channel you should subscribe to if you enjoy seeing physical copies of music, especially vinyl. He's also part of Dead End Hip Hop, which is cool if you enjoy hip hop (like myself). He discusses the album in question at 8:24.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGsOcGT_xfI Emo landmark straight out of 1994. Cap'n Jazz's only album, "Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards In The Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over," better known as "Shmap'n Shmazz."
  13. Good point, but you need to remember that growls are the most alienating aspect of extreme music in general, and what drives many people away from metal. I was able to get used to them by reading the lyrics along with the growls and came to the realization that they're easy to decipher after a while. Mikael Akerfeldt has one of my favorite growls of all time though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMAB0ESal84
  14. Listening now to "Dubnobasswithmyheadman," some progressive house from Underworld. Some of the most chilled out stuff I've heard in a while.
  15. Listening to some Pain of Salvation for the first time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNfFvifSLAo Very interesting concept surrounding this album. About existence and greed and humanity and shit.
  16. Next nomination for me will be "Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope." An uncompromisingly crushing and never-ending nightmare of drum-machine-laden grind miniatures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hVHX2hg6Z4
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP5RGSH02Sk
  18. What is Blackwater Park even about? I have a general idea, but at the same time I don't have a clue.

    1. Moog the Kvlt

      Moog the Kvlt

Blackwater Park is best Opeth album

    2. Treeboy

      Treeboy

      But what's the concept?

  19. I out on "Blackwater Park" a while ago. This was a very good move on my part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP5RGSH02Sk Really nice to finally delve into Opeth's discography.
  20. Nobody's nominated anything in a while... my time to shine. My favorite screamo album (and it's actually screamo, too), "As the Roots Undo" by Circle Takes the Square.
  21. Or Dead End rather

    1. Moog the Kvlt

      Moog the Kvlt

      Worst song on the album

  22. What are these clean vocals on Reflect the Storm?

    1. Moog the Kvlt

      Moog the Kvlt

Yep, they've got clean vocals on there

  23. Listening to "Come Clarity" because all you fuckers have done so already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtZTakgbb64 Up to "Leeches" right now, and it ain't bad so far. That may be subject to change.
  24. This is a thread? Okay. There's a version of this (my powerviolence album of the year thus far) that merges it with a 20 minute noise track called "White Glove Test Finds More Filth."
  25. "Look at the reality that you've convinced yourself you're living in. Cognitive dissonance Where the privilege lies in re-living it. Cognitive dissonance Look at the reality that you've convinced yourself you're living in. It's just so sad. It's just so sad that you're so sad. It's just too bad. It's just too bad that you've left, right, left yourself out of here with no one else. And brought us all to the edge of our seats for nothing more than a cheap look at a series of events that you try to keep hidden inside yourself." "Same Story" by Dionaea. One of my favorite songs of this decade.
