Well, Anthem is a failure. I guess that is something that was inevitable. This 'live service' thing is becoming a crutch for games now. Why can't these companies at least give a competent product at launch and THEN give us updates to add even more value? That is what a 'live service' could be. Instead we get 'release the game now, finish it months or years later.' How about no.

These games like Anthem and Fallout 76 are hilarious too, because they have microtransactions on day one without earning any of it in the slightest. XD If the games were at least good then maybe, but they can't even manage that. And this is from giant corporations with money that reaches the heavens. Yet small developers are able to both make great games AND give us great value without microtransactions. Like the one guy who made Stardew Valley. Game itself is amazing and yet, he is currently hard at work providing a brand new multiplayer aspect to the game, for free. He even stated how this is a huge challenge because he has to alter a lot of the game's current code to make this co-op work, but he still won't be charging for it. And this is one guy!! What the hell gaming industry? One dude is able to bitchslap corporations with hundreds of employees and unlimited budget.

That's kind of the result of a whole other problem, namely the fact that more often than not people who have more money than they will ever spend in several lifetimes only want more and more money to fill their greed, while people who barely make enough to cover basic expenses are usually some of the most generous people in the world. Big companies always want to outdo themselves, no matter how unobtainable that goal may be, like how Activision Blizzard recently fired over 800 employees despite making record profits. No matter how successful something is, it's a failure unless it outperforms the last huge success.
Like with Dead Space 3, and how despite the fact that the previous two games were very successful for a niche audience, EA expected the game to sell more copies than the previous two games combined, which obviously did not happen.
