The chanter confidently replied, "Though all before me is shadow, yet shall the Maker be my guide. I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond. For there is no darkness in the Maker's light and nothing that he has wrought shall be lost."

 

"At least we can say he's consistent." Rica said annoyed. "We'll have to find a way to get him to speak. There could be others in danger! We've tried being nice. Now we must try a different approach."

 

"Perhaps we could find a peaceful way to communicate." Ser Thomas suggested. "One with less threatening."

Connor had watched the fight ensue and had found himself to slow to act as the others dealt with the darkspawn, the changes were starting to affect his ability to fight, this really pissed Connor off, and this chantry priest wasn't helping his mood ether.

 

Connor stepped up beside umbra and rested a hand on the chantry priests shoulder.

 

"Listen here you worthless peasant, you can tell us where you are from and if there are more of the darkspawn around or, my elf friend here will gut you like he's has many other shems, or if your not scared of dying like that, I could turn you into a shade, you know, one of those being that have been corrupted by the worst kind of magic... Blood magic that is, see I'm a user of blood magic, I can do some really horrible things to you, and anyone of those things would corrupt your soul, which mean you'll become a enemy of the god you've worshipped all your life, and you'll go around killing innocent villagers and travellers, I'm sure you would enjoy that"

 

Connor lifts his free hand up and conjours a ball of crimson liquid, it floats above his hand.

 

"I'd hurry up and decide if I was you, you're wasting my time and my friends time"

Ümbrgrèss smiles wickedly as he takes out a dagger and starts sharpening it on his whetstone.

 

"Ah, but Conor you should really let me make him suffer before you do that. He can take a dozen or so cuts in the right places before he bleeds out." Ümbrgrèss said with a hint of glee in his voice.

"Stop!" Annabelinda stood, glaring at Connor "That is not what your powers are for!". She shot a look of dissaproval at Umbrgress as well.

 

"This man was almost killed and now his saviors threten him because he speaks differently?" She stood by the chanter.

 

"Ser Thomas...could you please translate for us? Do you know what hes saying?"

Ümbrgrèss put a hand on his forehead and groaned.

 

He pulled Anna out of the Chanters range of hearing.

 

"Anna, you know we where bluffing right? What would we accomplish by actually doing that. We where trying to intimidate him and know we have to wait for Thomas' translation while his people are being slaughtered because he took a vow to only quote his relgion. Think about it. Our empty threats where saving lives and you put an end to it." He berated her.

"Well if your not gonna talk I might as well get started on turning you"

 

Connor propels the crimson orb into the priests chest, the liquid then starts to expand, almost as if its flowing across the priests robes.

 

"Hurry up and tell me and I'll remove the liquid death, I'd hurry though, before it starts to burn"

Rica sullenly replied, "The Wardens produce results in whatever form."

 

The Chanter looked at Connor, then to the rest of the Wardens. He looked up to the sky and cried out. "Maker, forgive your child! I have broken my vow to you and to Andraste!" He looked back down to the Wardens with a sullen look on his face.

 

"I suppose my vow may be broken if it will help you save the village. Please, do be kinder to the villagers than you were to me!" He said, specifically directing it at Connor. "I'm from a village a short walk east down the road. We've had encounters with darkspawn before, but the guard was always able to handle it; but this morning, a lot of them came. Too many for him to handle. One of them was massive, like a building!" He started to tear up in his eyes. "Maker forgive me! I ran! But I know there were survivors! Revered mother Mara and a young lad named Daveth were holed up in the chantry cellar! You have to save them!"

 

(That's right, Daveth as a young child is in this.)

Connor smiled and waved his hand over the chanter.

 

"See, was that so hard, now let me uphold my end of the deal"

 

As he waved his hand over the priest the crimson liquid dispersed into the air, and then returned to Connor, and was then absorbed into his armor.

 

"I believe you are free to go now, and be sure to all your little chantry buddies that I'm coming for them"

 

With that being said Connor turned to face rica.

 

"You heard the man we need to head out, we have a woman and child to save"

"Uhh Anna, scratch that." Ümbrgrèss said after seeing the Reaver use his magic. He then walked up to Connor.

"I was curious as to how one learns blood magic like yours, you are not a Mage yet you can use it. How is that so?" He asked slightly in awe in spite of himself. He was beginning to like this warrior.

"By deinking the blood of a wyvern. " Annabelinda stated.

 

"But hes right, we have a family to save." She waited for Rica and the others; choosing to stay away from Connor. It was one thing to use your power to help and another thing entirely for intimidation, yet she pondered over the chanters faith. She didn't like it, but the demon inside reveled in it.

"I suggest that you think before you act from now on. All we know is that their village is overwhelmed with darkspawn, but I suspect the chanter can tell us more."

 

"I... I didn't see enough to tell you," the Chanter admitted. "If you truly are wardens, then I suspect there weren't enough to overwhelm a group of your size."

 

"See? You worry too much," Ser Thomas said, readying his blade. "For once, I agree with Connor. We do not have time for caution. We must act before our time is out!"

 

Rica silently nodded, but looked to the other recruits to see if they had input.

"Lets go and kill them before they get away." Ümbrgrèss said.

 

He walked over to Conor "Sometime your going to have to tell me where you found a wyvern to kill." He said jokingly.

 

Ümbrgrèss quickly cleansed off his daggers and wiped a little blood of his face.

 

"Wait!" He said, "we need to get these two's blood!"

 

He quickly took out two glass vials from his backpack and filled them with some of their blood and put them back in.

 

"Will those work Rica?" He asked.

Rica nodded and said, "They will do. Though I had planned to collect the blood, you may do so." She addressed all of the recruits. "We've lingered long enough. I'll lead us to the village now."

 

Rica waited a moment for the others to gather their things, then lead the recruits down the road with the simple instructions given by the chanter. When they came upon the village, Rica signaled them to wait before they got close enough to alert the darkspawn.

 

The village was just a brisk walk's distance down the road. It was a quaint village with three shanty homes, one tavern, a stone well and a large Chantry in its center. Two hurlocks were standing next to the well knelt over a dead woman and examining her for valuables. A hurlock alfa was near the back of the village with two unarmed genlocks. The alfa seemed to be disciplining the two genlocks, as he had out his massive blade and was using it to cut off the tips of their ears. One genlock and one hurlock were pushing and shoving at each other as the both attempted to grab useful bits of meat from a dead mabari hound. Finally, a massive Ogre was knelt over beside the Chantry eating something red and pasty.

 

"The Ogre might be a problem." Ser Thomas said. "But as for the others, I could take them all myself."

Alric stared up in both awe and fear at the ogre. He had never seen anything like it ever before. "That looks like trouble." Alric evaluated the creature for a second, and asked Rica a simple question. "Any known weaknesses?" Staring at the ground near it, Alric saw the ogre wasn't exactly stubborn. "I might just have to use my... wilder magics..."

"I'm going to try to sneak around to the ogres back to see if I can get in a good hit. If the warriors would charge in after that it would be much appreciated." Ümbrgrèss said.

 

Ümbrgrèss tried to sneak around the darkspawn's range of sight using the buildings for cover whenever he can and prays to his gods that he is successful.

Turning to Connor, Civ and Thomas, Rica said, "The three of you can go with her and charge the ogre. With all four of you attacking it at once, the ogre will fall quickly, then you can dispatch the smaller darkspawn."

She then added to the two mages, "You two will attack the weaker darkspawn. Just don't let the Alfa Hurlock get too close to you and you should be fine. In the mean time, I will be going into the church to look for survivors."

 

After making sure her orders were heard, Rica snuck around, out of the darkspawn's sight, to find a way into the church.

 

Ser Thomas waisted no time. He rose up from their hiding spot and stepped into view before beating his shield with the hilt of his blade to grab the attention of the Ogre.

Connor grabbed his sword and ran up beside thomas, and started shouting at the ogre, very rudely I might add.

 

"Hey ugly, you ever heard of make up, its for ugly bastards like you"

 

Connor then charged towards the ogre, sword raised, while screaming a battle cry.

Alric readied his mind for the battle, clearing all thoughts. "Come on you little scum," Alric shouted at Hurlock Alpha, "hit me!" He drew the attention of the smaller darkspawn towards himself. He raised his staff and chanted something that only the Wilders would understand. As he forced his staff down, he turned himself into a bear. The mage started making his way towards the darkspawn, making sure Anna was following.

Ümbrgrèss attempts to take the opportunity to jump on to the trolls back daggers first and tries to stab him over and over with his curved elven daggers while the others attack him from the front with weapons and magic. Hopefully distracting the ogre as well. He prayed to Elgar'nan for his success in murdering these foul beasts.

The ogre howled as the first of Umbrgress' daggers sunk into its back. It immediately juried its upper body and spun around in a circle, preventing the second dagger from making a sonic hit as Umbrgress clung to his back. The ogre used both of his arms to attempt to grab at the elf, leaving him open to an attack.

The Hurlock Alfa glared at the two mages as Alric charged in his bear form. The Alfa turned to the surrounding darkspawn and made a series of quick hand motions and grunts. Afterward, he readied his sword and braced himself.

 

The two gunlock soldiers readied two crude shortswords and charged at Alric from his left side. The two hurlock soldiers hoisted their swords and shields and charged at Anna from behind; and the two archers drew back their bows and aimed at Alric from his left side.

Ümbrgrèss throws his right hand dagger at the ogre while he is holding him. He then tries to throw an acid flask he has on his side at the gaint darkspawn with his now freed right hand. He glances over the battle field (if he can from his position) if he can see he tries to taunt the ogre to get its complete attention.

The ogre grabbed onto Umbrgress' right shoulder and tossed him onto the ground where he landed next to the walls of the church.

 

Ser Thomas had an opportune moment to attack the ogre, but instead rushed to Umbrgress' side to make sure that the ogre couldn't finish him off. He raised his shield and stood between Umbrgress and the ogre.

 

The Ogre lifted both hands above its head and smashed them into the earth, causing a shock wave that faltered Ser Thomas' stance.

Civera mustered up all of the rage she could and directed it at the beast. With the Ogre distracted by the knight, she charged at its right side with her blade held out like a javelin and stuck it into the monsters lower gut as deeply as she could while she screamed in anger. Though this did considerable damage to the monster, it also left her defenseless and unable to retract her blade.

Connor charged towards the ogre and used his sword to slice at the back of the ogres left leg, causing the Achilles tendon to snap, now making the ogres left foot useless.

 

Connor then buried his blade deep into the ogres back, causing serious damage.

 

"Thomas strike him now while he is weakened!!!"
