Perhaps his special talent is literally just him being able to detect these trends. Going to the episode itself... Rarity: What?! How can you not know who Trenderhoof is? Trenderhoof is only the most amazing, handsomest travel writer to have ever traveled or written! Before Las Pegasus became an Equestria travel destination, he wrote about it! Before the culinary revolution in Trottingham, he discovered it! He knows what's going to be hot even before it's tepid! [giggles] Rarity informed her friends that Trenderhoof visited Las Pegasus and wrote about how it was certainly going to be Equestria's next big travel destination. It actually doesn't require that he have social skills to call that. Maybe he visited Las Pegasus and saw the wonderful entertainment they had, saw casinos and big buildings, and just went off of that. He doesn't need to be able to talk to know this, perhaps he saw it and his special talent allowed him to safely say it would be big. As for the culinary revolution in Trottingham, perhaps he visited Trottingham and tasted a bunch of different food there, and determined it would be the next big thing. He didn't even have to use social skills to call that. And if Trenderhoof wrote about some big fashion revolution, he could just have attended some shows or saw the latest fashion on the street to determine that. When you think about it, his job doesn't require him to be good at talking at all. You make a fair point - but that really doesn't explain why he's considered to be so good at it. That's just the basics of what he has to do, and to be famous for doing something, you have to have an abnormal amount of well-rounded at it. You don't get famous for doing the basics, you get famous for being above and beyond good at something, and to be good at his job would require a basic amount of social skills - and going to places and not talking to anyone whatsoever, just writing about what you see, is literally just the basics of it. Furthermore, he never really displayed a lack of ability to interact with people, just a lack of ability to interact accordingly, which could either be due to being ignorant, like you claim, or just not wanting to. I'm inclined to believe the latter, though, because he never showed any natural ignorance - he just showed plain disregard. Lastly, you can't treat ignorance as an excuse to cause others pain, which he did throughout Simple Ways and that's what settthe whole plot in motion. I can't really see him be ignorant enough to not catch this, though: That happened before he knew AJ even existed. And I don't count it as creeping on Applejack anymore than it was creeping on Trenderhoof when Rarity kept trying to get his attention either. Rarity knew that Trenderhoof didn't like her yet she kept trying, and she could tell that he didn't like her yet she blamed Applejack for it. Trenderhoof was the only part involved that didn't realize that Rarity had feelings for him and didn't realize Applejack didn't have feelings for him at all. The thing is, though, Rarity didn't sit there, follow him around, and harass him like he did AJ, and when she did, it was because she was supposed to be his guide of Ponyville - even then, she didn't harass him. She ended up trying to get his attention by being someone she's not - which is someone like AJ. She learned her lesson in the end, though, and she's been one to show that she doesn't repeat the mistakes she made after she learned her lesson about it the first time. So, even though it wasn't nearly on the level that Trenderhoof's creeping was, she ultimately learned her lesson in the end and it shouldn't be held against her nor should it be used in defense of someone who's behavior was worse and seemed to learn merely a fraction of the lesson. I can't really see him be ignorant enough to not catch this, though: That happened before he knew AJ even existed. It might not necessarily be that he just plain sucks at socializing. It's clear that he knows how to talk and can socialize rather well. Rather, it might be that he isn't that good at things involving love? You point out that there's no way Trenderhoof didn't notice Rarity crushing on him as soon as he got off of the train, but he might have just thought it was because he was so famous, if he even noticed it at all. There's plenty of sayings about people who just can't "catch a hint" so to speak when it comes to crushes or infatuations. Perhaps Trenderhoof is like that. And it's not like Trenderhoof was totally a jerk through ignorance... Trenderhoof: Thank you, Rarity. Thank you for bringing me here. This farm is truly something special. He said that to Rarity before he even met Applejack. He genuinely did think the Apple family farm was pretty cool. Applejack never told Trenderhoof to go away though. Trenderhoof, as I said, obviously wasn't very good with romance, so he didn't catch the hint that she didn't want him around. I think it's unfair to imply that Trenderhoof was a creeper when Rarity literally transformed her entire persona into something else and tried to change the entire Ponyville Days Festival into something else just to impress Trenderhoof. She actually put more effort into it than he did when it came to the object of their affection. Regardless, I'm not accusing either of them of being creepers, I just think it's unfair to call Trenderhoof that when he didn't do anything other than follow Applejack around and try to talk to her. Heck, Rarity was the first one to try and dress country before Trenderhoof did! 1 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims

Besides, Scootaloo didn't seem to be all that offended by being unable to fly until Diamond Tiara and her lackey brought it up. #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims

Reveal hidden contents It's one of my favorite scenes in the entire show out of sheer shock, such auditory brutality the likes of which i never saw coming, especially from this pony.. Even if i must admit hearing her pretty much call Pinkie stupid and Rarity worthless hurts like hell.. Edited June 16, 2014 by Pinkamena-Pills Oatmeal, are you crazy?! GreyScholar 1,584 June 16, 2014 #34 Share June 16, 2014 (edited) @, Actually Ghostie, I'm going to have to agree with Rainblow Hash. It is unreasonable to demand that any one famous has to have great social skills... especially when said pony's profession is being a writer who travels so as to write for Equestria magazines. I would actually call Trenderhoof innocently insensitive. I mean all one has to do is look at what he says to know that he doesn't always have a strong grasp on what he is talkin about. For example when mentioning earth ponies work ethics has been discussed as a bit racist. A nice guy that means well but can say something some would call insulting. Back to Rarity and Applejack, there is nothing preventing a guy from being successful their job but have little clue when it comes to mares. Or consider the fact that Rarity behavior could be considered little different form certain fans he may encounter from time to time. Sure Rarity liked him, but there have probably been many ponies that have. Perhaps before this point Trenderhoof hace never found himself attracted to another pony and thus had no experiance in such things. Also on bothering Applejack, it isn't like she can right out and said "Leave m Alone!". Instead she tried dropping hints, all o which he missed. More consider his words and actions once being thought the lesson learned at the end. I would say he is quite the reasonable guy once he understands the problem or situation.
