If I write a "high school story"/teen story, how can I prevent it from "EgQ"?

I will be writing a story about a teenage bully, inspired by Sunset Shimmer and Hillary the bully from "Stargirl" (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22232.Stargirl).

 

Can you share me as many cliches and pitfalls in EqG (and ways to correct them) to prevent my story from becoming like EqG or some cliche'd high school story?

I can think of one: Flash Sentry. If you're going to add a love interest for the main character, then make sure you "flesh him out" so to say. Give him a unique personality with quirks and flaws, or just skip the love interest part all together.
