11111111111111111111 146 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 So I am a dude and I like to cosplay, a lot. But as I am sure you know most of the characters in MLP are female. So I am just looking for some tips and creative ways on how to cosplay as a female pony. (wow if I said that to my parents... ooooh that would be interesting) But seriously I just want to know what you have done that works, or things you have seen done that you liked. I mean if I wanted to do rainbow dash, should I just go wings and a wig and just make it kinda gender neutral, should I just cosplay her as a boy, or should i go all out and do sport shorts and a bra, (to some of you that may sound weird, but i have done stuff like that before, I have feminine features so it kinda works.) this is me so you can get an idea href="/monthly_10_2013/post-8308-0-50474800-1383261094.png">
Justin_Case001 4,896 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 (edited) Cool hat, bro. You look like you're staight out of some movie, like maybe, idk, War Horse or something. Like maybe WWI era. I think that's the time period I'm thinking of. Maybe just a tad steampunkish. Anyway, on topic: If I were going to cosplay as an MLP character, I would probably do Big Mac (I'm male as well.) But if you do RD or AJ and make it kind of gender neutral, I think it would work fine. Oooh, how about King Sombra? Now THERE's a cool cosplay idea. But imo, the best MLP cosplays are subtle, and technically not even cosplay at all. Take this pic for example. The best ever. The Mane-iac 1,648 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 I personally am someone who likes to keep the cosplay as close to canon as possible. If the character is the opposite gender as you are, I think the best way to go about that is to go as far with that characters style as you are comfortable. Ponies are a bit different though since they don't really wear clothes, so I think going with something that would fit the character is a must. Then you go as feminine/masculine as you think is appropriate for that character while still being comfortable. Keeping with Dash as an example; if it was me I would toss on a wig, wings, and either a jumpsuit made up like the Wonderbolts outfit, or some aviation gear (maybe one of the original Wonderbolt uniforms even). I could never bring myself to wearing sport shorts and a sports bra as the whole outfit. Maybe toss a bra on under the jumpsuit or something and pad it if you want. If I ever go to a con I do plan on dressing as Trixie or AJ. AJ is simple since that's basically my everyday style, but for Trixie I figured something more gender neutral/typical magician affair with her hat and cape added of course. Vinyl would be super easy as well; ripped up jeans, white zipped hoodie, wig, large purple glasses, DJ headphones, and of course glow sticks/bracelets/necklaces. Just have fun with it. 1 WTB: Luna, Trixie dog tags & AJ blind bag | This fandom needs more Mane-iac! | AJ, Rarity, and Trixie trot into a bar. GenderIsAnIllusion 2,177 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 My only cos play is a recreation of DJ Pon-3 equestria girls... The colour scheme is the same, but the pants reach my ankles... I look damn good in it, without looking like a girl.... So I say just keep the colour scheme 1 My peep is against bullying.... Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,302 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 I've never cosplayed nor have I technically cross-dressed (just contemplated it / worn girls' socks and jewelry lol). If I were braver (and prettier) and had my heart set on cross-dressing as a pony, though, I'd shoot for the stars. Doll myself up like Rarity from "Sonic Rainboom." Perhaps a Gala dress. xD Haha, wow - you SO shouldn't listen to me. Just do whatever feels right to you - there, I "fixed" my weirdo post. 1 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. Malinter 3,064 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 If all else fails, just cosplay as a male counterpart. As long as you capture the spirit of the character in question its all good. 1 My OC's: Malinter, Rahl, Vengeful impact & alias-the-marked-one First fic i've written since forever here Skype: Malinter@Outlook.com "Defeating a sandwich only makes it tastier." most legendary quote ever. Freewave 1,145 June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 I personally am someone who likes to keep the cosplay as close to canon as possible. If the character is the opposite gender as you are, I think the best way to go about that is to go as far with that characters style as you are comfortable. Ponies are a bit different though since they don't really wear clothes This is an important point, if you come to a convention dressed as a pony PLEASE wear clothes. What works in Ponyville doesn't always work in real life. Personally I'm not a big fan of seeing guys wearing colored wigs or femming it out, it just weirds me out a bit to see a 200 lb guy pretend to be Fluttershy. If you do something much more subtle you can fit the character and not look silly. Remember that its important to be approachable at a con. The op could go as Featherweight, he seems to have a natural look as a young newspaper photographer. 2 I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it.. Here's My YouTube..I have several albums on Bandcamp and Pony.FM. Check out the 20+ Musician project Maressey which I am running. Silver Letter 1,832 June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 I recommend that cosplay is done under the wishes of the costume maker. It may or may not go into "cross-dressing" but it shouldn't matter as long as artistic desire is accomplished. Silver Letter!!! Ribbonfree 2,383 June 19, 2014 Share June 19, 2014 You have a fairly gender neutral face, not pretty pretty but not super manly either, so with some makeup you could pull off a decent crossplay if that's what you wanted. Of course, as the others suggested a genderbent cosplay or one of the girls would work just as well. All down to what you're comfortable with. If you feel you gotta go all out, do it. If you don't, don't. Also I know how to work the makeup side of things, PM me if you're interested.
