Cool Weather Satellite Imagery

1. GO TO THIS SITE or if you live in the western U.S, then GO HERE 
2. From this list, choose the location nearest to you.
3. After you choose a location, a table like this should come up: Go under Flash Loops, Enhanced, and click on visible.

Once step 3 is done, you should see something like this:?

For the buttons above the satellite imagery:

 

Cnty - Displays the Counties

 

CWA - (County Warn Area) This one is hard to explain.

 

Rd - Displays major highways.

 

Lat/Lon - Displays latitude and longitude.

 

Watch/Warn - Displays any active watches or warnings.

 

Radar - Overlays the satellite imagery with Doppler radar imagery.

 

MSLP - Displays the pressure (in millibars).

 

T- Temperature.

 

Td - Dew point temperature. 

 

Wind - Guess.

 

Gusts - Guess.

 

RH - Relative humidity.

 

PW- Precipitable water... From Wikipedia: "Precipitable water is the depth of water in a column of the atmosphere if all the water in that column were precipitated as rain.".

 

LI: Lifted index... From NOAA: " A common measure of atmospheric instability. Its value is obtained by computing the temperature that air near the ground would have if it were lifted to some higher level (around 18,000 feet, usually) and comparing that temperature to the actual temperature at that level. Negative values indicate instability - the more negative, the more unstable the air is, and the stronger the updrafts are likely to be with any developing thunderstorms. However there are no "magic numbers" or threshold LI values below which severe weather becomes imminent."
