How do you think they're gonna top season 4 finale from now?

I mean, HOW IN THE HELL ARE THEY GONNA TOP MLP BALL Z? WHAT KIND OF VILLAIN ARE THEY GONNA THROW IN? HOW MAKE IT MORE THREATENING? IS SCOOTS DISABLED?

That would be hard to pull off, it's one of my fears of continuing MLP for too long. Fortunately, the writers have yet to let us down, and there are some ways to keep us hooked with villains.

I believe going to straight fight like the changelins and Twily vs Tirek would be foolish, but there can be a villain who can be more subtle, like psychologically  hurting or manipulating the mane6 or ponies close to them, a chessmaster. That would keep things interesting. And season 6 (because there can't be no season 6 at least with those 5 years of ponies), A BAD GUY CAN ACTUALLY CONQUER EQUESTRIA  :o . But that might require more than the usual two part from that arc

This is something I've been wondering since seeing Twilight's Kingdom, that was an awesome end to an equally awesome season. The writers have done really well so far for the most part, I'm sure they'll think of something :) (I hope) I would like to see what happens with the Rainbow Power idea.

I was wondering that too, I'm not sure they can create a villain more threatening than Tirek was. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't be able to make a better season finale than Twilight's Kingdom. (I, for one, preferred A Canterlot Wedding)

And NO Scoots isn't disabled.

i still dream of this show turning into an epic journey of twilight and friends wandering through equestria to find some special artifact and save the world or something.

however, thats not gonna happen, so i just hope for more of the same.

i would really love a "canterlot wedding" style double-episode,because i think that both 2-parters of this season were quite boring(with the finale being the better one).

Easy. Bigger baddies - even bigger explosions. More rainbows, much friendship. Any questions?

Seriously though? If this season focused on twilight's search for meaning and purpose, the next will probably focus on her intent to spread the magic of friendship across Equestria. I'll have to assume she'll eventually face a great challenge - the ideals of friendship eventually being at stake - maybe even going past the use of the rainbow force to blast things apart. I'll be waiting patiently to see that :)

Personally, I have been hoping the show would be building up to something. Like maybe there would come along a new villain (not banished for a thousand years) who would surpass Tirek, Chrysalis and Discord. But instead of introducing him, they'd drop hints and maybe even convince the Mane 6 he isn't real until the final episode. And then each new villain leading up to that confrontation would be more build up to get us hyped.

Something like Secret Invasion from Marvel Comics? That would be awesome, but they'll have to tone it down, but they can make it work ;)

This is a really great and widely asked question considering how exponentially awesome that finale was.

I say, they don't need to.

No really, I still loved the other episodes of MLP even though they weren't nearly as explosiony and DBZ-esque as Twi's Kingdom.  They taught some great morals and I imagine that the writers will continue to do that in the future.

Something that can top explosion and stuff is only one thing.

Heartbreaking-but-it-has-to-be-done ending.

In this case, something like banishment of Nightmare Celestia as an ending.

Easy. Give Celestia and Luna tons of screentime and character development :comeatus:

The Tirek battle will be hard to beat from an action standpoint, but the show was never really about action and fighting, so they really don't need to. TBH, I'm kind of tired of villains. Though there are still two scenarios that need to be done: The Smooze, and return of Chrysalis.

IMO, Twilight and Celestia should be Chryssi's next targets. Capture and replace one, manipulate the other. If Twilight is captured, then we get insight into Celestia's personality, plus prevent Twilight from stealing the show for once. Wouldn't it be awesome if Celestia recruits Twilight's friends to help save her? It could be like Mare in the Moon all over again, but with Celestia having the magic of friendship reignited in her, and be able to use the elements of harmony again.

But if Celestia is captured, then we could get some glorious bonding time between her and Twilight, only to have out hearts ripped out when we find out it was all a lie (if Hasbro can keep their mouths shut and not spoil the reveal). But then to really up the emotional/moral value, have Chrysalis defeated at the end of part 1. Part 2 deals with Twilight's lingering negative emotions from the whole thing (possibly involving revenge plans), her friends helping her through it, and then spending time with the real Celestia and finally letting go of her hatred toward Chrysalis.

There are many ways in which the writers could "top" the season 4 finale, although for me personally doing so would not at all be necessary for me to continue enjoying the show.

However, I don't think they'll necessarily do it bigger or flashier, but different. A different kind of story, a different kind of villain. For example, I read a fanfiction recently I really loved that was about an antagonist who infiltrated the dreams of ponies and caused them harm in that manner. When a pony had their dream taken over like that, they could never wake up from it unless someone else came into their dream to rescue them. So, Princess Luna recruited Scootaloo to help her go into the dreams of ponies and rescue them.

It ended up being a very fascinating and convoluted story involving dreams and history. Perhaps something similar could be done in the show.

Regardless, the writers could come up with something different and new to maintain variation while still adhering to the spirit of the show.
