Why is AJ so popular?

I always figured Applejack would have a fault of some bias which rubs the others. She had a problem with magic being used by Twilight and Rainbow Dash using her wings.

Just a friendly reminder - it was Applejack who said that they all understand that magic is Twilight's special talent in Boast Busters. She also said that she is proud to have someone so powerful and talented as her close friend. As for Rainbow, AJ always showed her support if needed (Sonic Rainboom, Wonderbolts Academy). The only time when she didn't want Dash to use her wings was in Fall Wather Friends, because using wings in a running contest is definitely cheating.

And I actually really think that Twilight and Rainbow shouldn't rely on their magic and wings as much as they do. The Return of Harmony showed why. They're completely lost without it.

Isn't AJ's flaw something to do with not wanting to look good or impress rarity. The latter one probably not correct but she has a family life and she overcame her flaw in look before you sleep.

Her primary hamartia is that she is stubborn, which is juxtaposed next to her role as the common sense wise member of the group. Season 4 actually brought this back to the forefront after years of complaints that she grew too quickly.

She is not like that at all.  :eww:

Rainbow Dash is an amazing pony! :comeatus:

Yeah, sometimes she may be a little bit obnoxious or, how would you say it...says she is better sometimes? (sure I'll say that) But that's just her! And she hardly ever is like that anyways. Nothing to hate about. >_>

Its just the same for anypony! Like Fluttershy.  We don't hate her because she is always "Quiet or Shy".  What's the difference?

Wait what? Are you seriously comparing hating someone for being shy to hating them for being selfish conceited and obnoxious? There's a huge difference in those 2 things...>.>

And well to be blunt anybody who'd hate someone for being like Fluttershy would have to be a complete a-hole...just saying...

But it's much more understandable to dislike somebody if they're conceited and/or selfish and/or like to brag. Yeah Dislike is the better term. I don't hate Rainbow Dash. I merely dislike her attitude.

That is a down right facinating observation! Heck that would be its own thread topic.

And yeah I really agree that Aj is nowhere near as "against" magic as the fandom says she is. Heck what do you think applebucking is? Hit an appletree with something really hard and I tell you the apples will not neatly fall into a couple baskets. The only time she was against it from my memory was aaaaaaallll the way in season one winter rapup and it was just cause it was tradition and not a personal preference.

Approaching this from a literary and psychological perspective, it makes a lot of sense to be drawn to a dynamic (if imperfect) character like Rainbow Dash as much as it does to be drawn to the passive characterization found in roles similar to Fluttershy. Steinbeck nailed that concept beautifully.

And then there's Applejack ;)

You dislike her attitude because you do not understand her character. If you took the time to see her character as she really is and not what the fandom makes her out to be you would not dislike her at all (at least I hope)

In a way she is just as vulnerable as Flutters.

There is already an established necessity for magic and wings, no argument. This is about Applejack seeing the use of magic/wings for small things like unnecessary. Rainbow Dash flying above the group rather than walking with the group. Twilight Sparkle using her magic to get something off a self rather than using the ladder to climb up there and get it.

Applejack just nit-picks where she draws it from her upbringing of traditional Earth Pony.

But where are the scenes where this happened? I do not recall Aj nitpicking over anything like that (not to say she didn't, but clearly it did not leave much of an impression if it exists) save for that one episode I mentioned.

There are no scenes for it. It was an idea of Applejack being a proud traditional Earth Pony and the series could work off that.

She actually has better footing in EG being that they're all the same now. Rainbow Rocks had Applejack arguing at Rainbow Dash and Rarity on the small stuff as Sunset put it.

That is true but I count human mane six as their own group because they have different interests and soon to be different character development (and you know...not the same people). Eventually Human Aj will be even more different than her pony counterpart while retaining the core theme.

Exactly. Besides, during their adventures in Equestria Mane 6 changed. Just look at Rainbow from the first episodes and you'll see the differences. Their friendship changed them, while their human versions had completely different life and experiences. When you watch Equestria Girls, it's not the same Applejack. She didn't learn to be less stubborn, as pony-AJ did in Applebuck Season. She didn't learn to understand Rarity's point of view better and care about details (Look Before You Sleep). Of course, human-AJ might have had similar experiences that helped her learn similar things, but not exactly the same.

The comics gave Applejack a new aspect with her business logic being simple. Sell apples.

Still she is very well done in the comics.

Applejack is as close a ponified "me" as it comes....and yes, even the apples (I got my lower retainer out 2 months ago, ending 11 years of not being able to eat whole apples, and now I'm an apple addict)...
