A request for Chess training

I had no clue where to put this topic since it covers a wide variety of topics, but it's a game, so it goes here.

I enjoy playing chess, but I'm quite terrible at it. Since this is a community that reaches out to everybody, I feel that there is someone out there that's really good at chess and I was wondering if they could teach/tutor me on chess. It's one of my favorite games, and I want to be able to give anyone that asks me a good game of chess. Is there anyone out there that is willing to make me their apprentice? I would gladly serve you, my lord.

Sincerely, Your Loyal Subject,

This is so sad, I know someone that loves chess but he won't be on the forums for a long time! :(

I'll keep my eye out for someone else though. Unfortunately I'm terrible at chess, sorry I'm not of more help!

Well, do you have any books on chess ? That would be a start.

There is an excellent book to start with called "Chess for Dummies".

It's simple yet efficient.

Chess for Dummies only teaches the basics, I know the basics.

At the beginning of the book, but it does talk about more advanced techniques towards the end. If you feel that this is still to easy, you might want to try

Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy by John Watson.
