gaming Oh you loved Tomb Raider? Well sorry you lose.

So is 1440p. Back in the 1980s it was expected for 1440p to become the standard resolution for HDTV as it's exactly 4 times the width and 3 times the height of 640x480. Also, the PG278Q only has DisplayPort for input, so no HDMI, DVI or even VGA.

I think shedding massive bucks for a insignificant increase in resolution doesn't work. This is the same reason why blu ray was not selling when it was first released.

I'm tired of PS4 fanboys hating on Xbox because of the need to pay to be online, or just cuz it's cool, idk.

I'm also tired of people that always go "PC Master Race hurr durr". If you're on PC or whatever, great. Leave the console gamers in peace. Some of us don't care about fps or whatever BS, and some of us don't care about mouse-aiming or whatever. Some of us don't even play shooters!

Mini rant over. Do with that what you will.

Plus, to the title of this thread: screw off.

If you liked Tomb Raider you might have an Xbox. Hence you can play the game.

So only a portion of them "lose" :)

People can game on what they want. These are just video games people. I don't look down on console gaming, I still game on consoles and I was bred on consoles. Console gaming today is slavery. Here's what PC gamers can enjoy

Free online

Steam sales, get a $60 game for $30 and get a $20 for $5.

Game in 1080p native and beyond

You can game with any controller you want

mods

You can upgrade your hardware and software

limited DRM control

People are already dumping $600 or $700 in 4K monitors, even $3500 for those 31.5" 4K monitors. I believe that 1440p is the next evolutionary step in PC gaming, but won't be popularized among consumers until monitor prices come down. Right now the only affordable way of getting 1440p is importing from South Korea, but that is a gamble because of poorer QC.

I'd go on about why you should care about FPS, but that's for another time. But no, it wasn't directed at you in particular, it was just that your post reminded me of a huge reason why I was driven away from Microsoft and Sony's consoles: elitism. Games are interactive works of fiction, not your whole life. Shaming others for not getting the "right" platform is a plain old waste of time and should not be done.

Also, as a sidenote, although I already stated my reasons why, I find exclusives to be bullshit these days.

1440P will be standard in 5 years. I don't find it economically viable. Especially when only 1440p can only be stable with physical disc or SSD downloads. 4K streaming is a joke right now, people can't even stream 1080p effectively.

oKAY, Mr. PC Gaming Spokesman.

I get that they get features that CGers don't. However, some of us don't WANT/NEED that stuff and therefore they don't game on PC.

There are some reasons why people would prefer console to PC, but that's up to them.

Free online, good for you

Steam sales, good for you

1080p, good for fucking you.

Mods, wow

Upgrading, cool

Whoopty do da, great for ya.

If I see "PC master race" one more damn time...

Plus, CGing isn't slavery, they aren't being forced to pick cotton 24/7 AND aren't being stolen from their homelands for money because they prefer a different form of entertainment.  :okiedokielokie:

Why are we blaming Microsoft? A console's success is largely dependent on the exclusives.

I'm sure plenty of Xbox fans wanted to play Uncharted or Last of Us. It is what it is.

Microsoft is not anti-gaming; nor is this a dick move. It is pure business, and I applaud Microsoft for trying to help the Xbox One succeed.

While I can understand the reasoning with the first game being multi-console; again, I have no issue with it. As a business, they have to do what they have to do.

Congrats to them.

You have more authority over this matter than I do. But technology isn't as expansive as human beings claim it is. The average US citizen will pay for coaxial and get screwed over bad internet.

No, I'm just saying I don't care about that.

I don't mind paying for online.

There are sales on consoles too.

1080p, not needed/required to enjoy the game.

To mods, I prefer the original game, not some mangled up horse shit

Upgrading. Ehh, can't really say anything bad about it.

DRM, don't know what the fuck that is. Call me a casual, but I really don't know/give a damn.

On the game,

It's a business guys. Microsoft offered money, and either offered more than Sony did or got there first. Simply simple.

I don't play Tomb Raider anyway.

Ah, man. That sucks. I was really excited about the Tomb Raider sequel. In my opinion, this is a dick move on Microsoft's behalf. You don't take a popular game that is on multiple consoles, and the PC and make the sequel an exclusive. Well, I have to say that I'm disappointed. Oh well, not much can be done about it I suppose. It sucks for the company that makes the Tomb Raider games. They're going to lose money since it's only going to be available on one system.

it's so Microsoft can get money. It's a business and a smart move by them.

Dickish move? Ehh, I may be biased cuz I'm on X1 but... I don't know. Sony could've gotten there first anyways, or offered more money. Fact is they didn't. Nor, I think, did they try to compromise with Microsoft. Therefore, Microsoft gets it.

Although it's sad that some people can't play it, I say too bad. Business calls, though.

I don't see how making it so that people can only play this game on the Xbox one is going to make Microsoft more money. If it was released on the Playstation, and PC as well they'd still make money from people buying the Xbox version. If Sony would have bought it out like Microsoft did, I still would be upset despite the fact that I would have been able to play it. I know it's all about business and what not, but I personally believe that Video Games are meant to be enjoyed. If I worked on the new Tomb Raider game, I'd be pretty upset that not all of the fans of the game are able to play it. Oh well. It's all about the money in the end isn't it? It's always about the damn money.

Everything is about money, my friend.

Plus, only Microsoft and Square Enix get this money, so technically it would benefit them more.

Personally all games should be on all consoles. But eh, what can ya do?

Video games are meant to be enjoyed, but Xbox One desperately needs more exclusives. Now, Tomb Raider isn't exactly Last of Us in terms of quality, BUT Microsoft still needs exclusives to sell consoles. That isn't exactly going to be the case when a game is available on all systems and people are likely buying the PS4 versions over the Xbox One versions.

Again, it is unfair, but it is business. Nothing more, nothing less.

On the game,

It's a business guys. Microsoft offered money, and either offered more than Sony did or got there first. Simply simple.

I don't play Tomb Raider anyway.

You mind if I explain some things to you?

  1. It is 2014. Online multiplayer is no longer a premium service. It was in 2002, when it was still relatively new to the masses and rising in popularity, but nowadays more and more people are expecting online multiplayer in games so why should we have to pay for online multiplayer on top of our ISP bills, which are already expensive?
  2. I've seen these, and they're typically weak. Last sale I looked at (through Sony's blog) was right around the same time the Steam Summer Sale happened, and Tomb Raider was on sale for $30; on Steam, it was on sale for $5, including all DLC.
  3. So you're saying blurrier graphics are okay then? Resolution is a perception of something by your eye, and the lower the less clear it looks (although, past a certain distance the difference between even 4K and 480p is not noticeable). Although, let me tell you that the difference between 1366x768 and 1920x1080 I noticed immediately upon upgrading to the higher resolution is so great I can't even think of how to describe it.
  4. Mods are not just silly things like exploding chickens, lightsabers in Skyrim, dumb running Sonic cars in Trackmania 2 and other things like that. It can also be used to fix bugs and performance problems the developers won't fix (Skyrim is single-threaded on the PC, modders figured out how to fix that through .ini file editing, also the Unofficial Elder Scrolls patches) or expanding a game in ways the developers won't (again using Skyrim as an example due to how modder-friendly Bethesda is, lot of cities from TES: Arena removed in Skyrim, but were added in again by modders. Also, there's this one mod that adds in a new story arc to Skyrim, but I can't seem to remember what it was called...)
  5. #justmasterracethings :P
  6. DRM is digital rights management, and consoles are full of it. Only games approved by the manufacturer may run, only accessories approved by the manufacturer may be used, sharing saved files and purchased digital content is heavily restricted between user accounts, hardware repairs may only be done by the manufacturer and doing so yourself risks voiding the warranty, basically consoles are closed ecosystems and Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo (as much as I like them, I will admit they are guilty of the same things) will do everything to lock you into their ecosystems. There are games on the PC plagued with shitty DRM like SecuROM as well, but the PC is an open ecosystem and there is not one company locking you into using accessories or playing games approved by only them. At least, there shouldn't be.

If you want to know more, feel free to PM me. I don't bite.

This is one of the most annoying things that's ever happened. Tomb Raider started on PC and PS1. It then expanded to Xbox when it was available. BUt to abandon the first two platforms so easily...? Pathetic.

"Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special – the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built."

B.S. Translator = Microsoft offered us a shit ton of money, they are our friends. PlayStation & PC players, thanks for buying the last Tomb Raider so that we can turn our backs on you! We want to bring this game to EVERYONE, except we're only bringing it to the Xbox One. This game is gonna be DA BEST EVAH!
